How to get rid of tart taste of fat free Greek Yoghurt

Former · 06/01/2024 21:42

without adding too many calories? Cinnamon doesn't work. Stevia taste like bitter hell as do all sugar free products.

I am doing Fast 800 Dr Moseley's Mediterranean way of eating, so I am going to add nuts. I know they say to use full fat products, but I don't want to as it's too moorish and calorific, so I would rather add other sources of fat to control the calories.

Also I was thinking of sprinkle a very small amount of butterscotch Angel Delight on top and putting it in my carb count. Hopefully that may help to take the tart taste away. But perhaps the tiny amount I plan to put in top won't make a difference.

Anyone have any other ideas?

Add salt.

Menora · 06/01/2024 21:45

Are you avoiding all sugar as I would prob just suck up 20 calories and bung a half teaspoon in or something?

Former · 06/01/2024 21:45

Oh well that's easy - I love salt too!

Vanilla extract - the proper pure stuff.

CoffeeAndEnnui · 06/01/2024 21:46

Use roasted nuts, the flavour is much richer than plain. Chopped roasted hazelnuts are gorgeous with Greek yoghurt. Either buy pre-roasted mixed nuts, chop and sprinkle or just bake a batch to store and use as needed.

Unhelpful Im afraid but they are right, smaller amounts of full fat products

Get your full fat greek yoghurt, a really good creamy one. Separate it out into portions and freeze them. Only then eat what you need to. You wont be tempted becuase its rock solid in the freezer

I freeze humous, cheese, cream, milk, the whole lot

theduchessofspork · 06/01/2024 21:49

See if you can find Fage 2% - it does the job

ICantGetNoSheep · 06/01/2024 21:49

A drizzle of honey works for me

pickledandpuzzled · 06/01/2024 21:51

Vanilla
I also use eatlean flavour drops.

theduchessofspork · 06/01/2024 21:51

@soupfiend

really? Does that work with yogurt?? Humus goes weird when I freeze it but that might be because I buy low fat and it’s too watery?

Yup, I second this. Sugar is way more moreish than full fats. Eating fat from whole foods cause us to produce a chemical that tells our brain we have eaten enough. If you eat full fat, real food (rather than processed sugary flavours) you will feel satisfied much sooner than with low fat products.

Former · 06/01/2024 21:51

I am trying my best to keep as low carb as possible as I have PCOS, under-active thyroid and insulin resistance and am now peri. So fats are probably better than sugars.

However, I also want an eating plan that I can something I can stick to, so maybe just some sugar will still keep me in ketosis.

I do FAST 800 I would use honey jam lemon curd etc. Stevia doesn't taste bitter to me so I use that including the liquid drops

Paw2024 · 06/01/2024 21:53

A tiny bit of peanut butter mixed in works

Yep, I third this. Just go for FF as there's only so much you can eat. Step away from sweet flavourings.

Great idea! I love the full fat version too much to trust myself if days I'm really hungry!

Does it defrost ok though!

Sorry just read you are not doing full fat. You really need to, it's the fat keeps you full. Fast 800 is not keto

I dont eat low fat anything

Never had a problem freezing stuff, even coconut milk etc, ricotta cheese

Former · 06/01/2024 21:57

@Doggymummar What brand of Stevia do you use?

OP posts:
Former · 06/01/2024 22:00

I don't necessarily want to do keto. I just want to do something that I can stick to and will work for my issues, so lower carb would be much better.

I'm going to try and freeze and portion out for the week and freeze! Hopefully it won't be a watery tasteless mess!

Sweet we or honey

Former · 06/01/2024 22:02

@CoffeeAndEnnui I've just bought plain mixed nuts today. Are the roasted ones higher in fat or calories?

Add some curry powder and a drop or two of honey. Make yourself some carrot sticks or celery sticks and dip in. It's so delicious and not diet like at all. Seriously give it a try. If you want to add a few calories or if you're on a fat allowed diet then add some mayo which makes it even more delicious.

Former · 06/01/2024 22:05

@Sunshineismyfavourite sounds really nice for when I want a savoury breakfast.

I use 0% fage and add a scoop of chocolate protein powder to it. It stirs in really well and makes a creamy delicious chocolate pudding texture dessert.
