How to get rid of tart taste of fat free Greek Yoghurt

without adding too many calories? Cinnamon doesn't work. Stevia taste like bitter hell as do all sugar free products.

I am doing Fast 800 Dr Moseley's Mediterranean way of eating, so I am going to add nuts. I know they say to use full fat products, but I don't want to as it's too moorish and calorific, so I would rather add other sources of fat to control the calories.

Also I was thinking of sprinkle a very small amount of butterscotch Angel Delight on top and putting it in my carb count. Hopefully that may help to take the tart taste away. But perhaps the tiny amount I plan to put in top won't make a difference.

Anyone have any other ideas?

@Titwillow55 I used to do this but something in protein powder and slim fast type products has me doubled up with cramps. Not sure why.

That why I thought maybe a tiny bit of butterscotch Angel delight may be ok, so that ai can eat things I enjoy so I do t feel like I'm being deprived. I want something I can stick to.

I love cherries! I buy frozen ones and they are lovely when defrosted with Greek yogurt

snowlady4 · 06/01/2024 22:35

I love honey. Or a few berries. (Or both.)
And if you can stand it.. a spoonfull of flaxseed is a great fibre booster to keep you fuller for longer.

I eat it with Alpen Muesli Simply Berries. Because I'm the only one that eats it I pick out the raisins as raisins are the work of the devil!

The sweetness comes from the bits of freeze dried fruit..

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 06/01/2024 22:39

If you need to have fat free then I find the Fage 0% to be a lot less tart than store own brands .

However - if you are doing low carb - are there not less carbs in the higher fat products ?

JustMaggie · 06/01/2024 22:57

You could add a sprinkle of salt to your yogurt, some crushed dried mint and a teeny bit of crushed garlic. If you're feeling extravagant, add chopped cucumber. It's yummy!

Doggymummar · 06/01/2024 23:20

NKD is the brand and Trivia for the powdered sweetener

TheCosyRain · 06/01/2024 23:58

Possibly not helpful but I used to add a bit of tinned fruit (in their own juice) and mix in a bit of the liquid. Not sure how good or bad that is. Then I just switched to full fat as when I try to stick to something and I’m not enjoying it I fail! Full fat much nicer and still good for you.

IntheSnowySnowyMountains · 07/01/2024 00:17

Could you have mixed berries? Lowish carb I believe and good for you! I have Total/Fage 5% with berries and a drizzle of honey (with the berries you might not need honey). I think Total/Fage is less sharp than many Greek style yoghurts. Sometimes I sprinkle nuts or granola (bad!) on top. It does keep me full and I have lost weight in the past eating this as part of a calorie controlled diet

What in the name of all the Gods even IS "fat free Greek yoghurt"? That's assuming the term didn't simply escape from one of those lists of "the 100 best oxymoron."

Morwenscapacioussleeves · 07/01/2024 00:33

Inulin powder is mildly sweet that plus some berries might help

saraclara · 07/01/2024 00:59

A teaspoon of dark, toffeeish honey, or a teaspoon of the best lemon curd (Waitrose no 1 or Tesco finest) on low fat proper Greek yoghurt is my daily dessert when I'm dieting. The lemon curd is particularly good as it's so intense.

Boomboomshakeshaketheroom · 07/01/2024 07:28

I just stuck with it and got used to the tartness after a week or so.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 07/01/2024 07:43

I would say give it another week and you'll get used to it or use a squirt of chocolate Sweet Freedom sauce which is only cocoa and apple puree and really low in calories.

Girlintheframe · 07/01/2024 08:25

What about something like sweet freedom
sugar free Carmel syrup or skinny maple syrup?

Dentistlakes · 07/01/2024 08:30

This might not work for you if you’re on low carb, but I defrost some frozen fruit in the microwave and then mix the yogurt (0% Fage) into that. It makes the taste more tolerable!

Westfacing · 07/01/2024 08:40

Have it as a savoury food and stir in a big pinch of dried mint - very tasty!

Former · 07/01/2024 17:33

I have found that 5% Fage takes the tart taste away. But I love it too much lol. I'm trying to get the balance of not eating things I like too much so I don't overeat.

Plus if I'm hungry, it's a good source of protein without lots of calories and you can add other sources of nutritious fat from nuts and avocado etc when you if have the calories to spare. If I get the full fat version, I can't have other good sources of fat due to the calorie allowance and I'm always having to get it from the dairy fat.

I think I will put some ripe pear in and when I have them berries.

The fact it can be savoury or sweet is the best thing about it. I think some avocado with it may be nice.

The reason I want it for breakfast is because it's there and quick, like eggs, my other breakfast.

Chopped up apple. Absolutely the best thing, and I'm a committed fatty.

43ontherocksporfavor · 07/01/2024 17:37

Don’t have it if you do t like it. Have an egg instead. Full fat Greek yoghurt can’t be many more cals can it? How much of it are you eating?

TheDogsMother · 07/01/2024 17:39

Sorry that link was a bit long. It's Yeo Valley Organic Super Thick 0% Fat Natural Yoghurt. Greek Style.

Armchairs · 07/01/2024 17:50

I’d try 2% Fage - it’s 70 cal per 100g whereas fat free is 54 cal. However, add anything to the 0% you’ll wind up at the same number - a tsp of honey/curd is about 20 cals but all from sugar and will lead to move cravings and be less satiating.

I just think the 0% is gross and when I’ve eaten things I find gross I think “I guess I should have at least one Lindor truffle as a little treat for enduring all this 0% yoghurt” (Lindor truffles are 623 cal per 100g, sadly…)

Returnofthemat · 07/01/2024 21:28

Defrosted frozen raspberries are much juicer than normal ones and you can stir them in to Greek yogurt to make it much tastier! That’s what I give my kids rather than the shop bought, sugar laden flavoured ones.

Somebody said here to put SALT in to take the tart taste away.

I am so happy it worked 100 percent!

I put plain chopped nuts and sprinkled with salt and it was delicious!
