Healthy , high protein breakfast ideas?

Elisabeth3468 · 02/01/2024 20:37

Can't have eggs in unfortunately or oats. I had my gallbladder out and literally cannot process eggs at all. Such a shame because poached eggs on toast was a great filling breakfast for me.
I have PCOS so need to be aware of sugar content.
Any ideas feel free!!

Spicy omelette - peppers, chilli, paprika, hot sauce, good strong cheddar

Ham and mushroom omelette

Bacon, sausage and eggs (ok less on the healthy but high protein and delicious)

I opened this wondering if I'd get any ideas to help my elderly mother - she can no longer eat much egg to her immense frustration as eggs were always her go-to food. Not only are oats out, but all gluten and dairy, and like the OP she needs to limit fat too. At the moment it sounds like she's eating a lot of apples for breakfast ...

febbabies2023 · 02/01/2024 21:12

@FlabMonsterIsDietingAgain just pointing out that all but one of your suggestions were the opposite of what op wanted. Actually thought you were being sarcy for a moment! No need to get salty I wasn't being rude 🙃

LordEmsworth · 02/01/2024 21:15

Kippers
Kedgeree
Avocado and/or smoked salmon with whipped feta & sriracha
Scrambled tofu
Beans - boston baked beans, mexican black beans...

HollyBollyBooBoo · 02/01/2024 21:17

M&S do the most amazing Greek yoghurt with vanilla, that with fruit keeps me going until lunch.

What about bananas, nut butters, dairy free yoghurts, kippers/Mackerel?

She literally just said she can't eat eggs or oats 🤦🏻‍♀️

greenacrylicpaint · 02/01/2024 21:20

chia seeds soaked overnight in juice on top of plain quark or cottage cheese.

Elisabeth3468 · 02/01/2024 21:21

Thanks all!
Some great ideas. Do have to be careful with fat content so that's what I'm struggling with and why eggs are a no go. Full fat yoghurt isn't great on my stomach either. So annoying and limiting. I'm only 27 and have the most dodgy bowels.
Currently just havjng a slice of toast for breakfast which isn't keeping me going and I need protein in every meal to keep me full.
After losing a lot of weight being unwell from gallbladder issues it's started to come back on. I'm not over weight but it's creeping up so need to take control now.

Oh yes I've tried those and it looked like frog spawn and tasted horrendous. Thanks for the idea though 😃

Have you tried just having egg whites, it might be that the fat content in the yolks is what you're having problems digesting? That would give you some extra options and egg white has lots of protein.

No I haven't and didn't think of it. That's a great idea thank you ,

Can you manage egg whites? Without your gall bladder, you should be on a low fat diet however most of the fat in eggs is located in the yolk. See if you can tolerate the white alone. You can also try making scrambled tofu or adding pureed silken-texture tofu to your oatmeal. Biotiful Kefir Protein yoghurt gives you 30 gram of protein for 165 calories. The kefir may help your stomach tolerate it? Kefir is meant to be good for digestive health. You can have defrosted cherries or blueberries to go with, or any fruit really. I mix the yoghurt with a small bit of apple juice or berry juice to make it a nicer texture.

I like Rye bread from Lidl with Longley farm cottage cheese and some honey sprinkled with sea salt

I have found it helpful to stop thinking about ’breakfast’ and ‘meal’ and just think of food.

So the TibaTempeh in soy sauce are salty, umami little morsels of yumminess that I snack on any time. I’d eat a pack for breakfast, or take a pack for lunch. Really high in protein.

I’ll eat a carrot (unpeeled) instead of an apple.

Munch on cherry tomatoes or eat a tub of cottage cheese.

Cottage cheese and fruit salad and nuts is a regular snack for me.

I love the polish cottage cheese which has a little cream in it. It’s like a different food from the cottage cheese I’ve had before. I’ll be trying the longkey farm one, too.
