Better You, Better Year - Orlistat time!

I was prescribed Orlistat just before Christmas , going to start taking it this week and I welcome any tips, food ideas etc etc.

Realistically I've probably got around 5 stone to lose to be near a health weight for my height so it's going to take a while but I'm ready 😊

Anybody else starting on it?

I too was prescribed early December - took a couple of tablets then thought I would abstain until the New Year, having read so many horrific side effects - I'm going to attempt to start today, I'm pre-diabetic, high cholesterol & high BMI with 2½ stone to lose. Am too looking for any advice

Woodenwonder · 09/01/2024 16:20

I've not dared start taking it yet....!!

Which is silly because if I eat low fat it should be fine. I'm going to start tomorrow morning. Let's check in with each other!

I read somewhere that eating some oats with every meal is a good idea as the soluble fibre helps ward off any side effects so I'm going to have half sachet of oatsosimple with each meal.

For past week have been eating low-fat so have had no adverse effects, am only taking two a day as generally don’t eat breakfast - I think the next thing to go is the gin & tonic which is most enjoyable at the end of a working day 🤪

How is everyone getting on ?

MeltdownMama12 · 17/02/2024 15:53

I just started today so far nothing but not trusting farts lol got like 8 stone to shift so hopefully this will help

Dinkiedoo · 25/02/2024 11:11

Ive been on it for 3 weeks. Lost 5llbs in first 2 weeks . Nothing since !
I started it because have been on a diet since July. Stopped losing weight in October ! GP suggested trying it. I exercise nearly every day. Dont drink. Eat healthily. So am puzzled.
Side effects .....diarrhoea but not every day. Was actually constipated last week !
Whe I say diarrhoea its loose poo about twice a day. Nice orange colour. No leaking or underwear staining. Bit windy at times lol.
Im seeing GP next week for review. Expected to lose more but at least Ive lost some

MeltdownMama12 · 26/02/2024 07:47

Does anyone go to the toilet 2/3 times a day since starting its not oil or runny but I feel like I am literally pooping out everything I eat even if a meal with zero fat content, or barely any fat so like 5g, no accidents or anything, I have been eating more fruit and weetabix not sure if fibre content too high is that a thing? First week lost 3lbs but 2 days i had to not take them as events planned so considering those days i went off track I am pretty happy with those results, due my period next week and the urge to binge full bar of galaxy and a raw steak have appeared 🙈😂 so hoping I can get through the week and not give in

notveryrelaxed · 12/03/2024 09:16

Just came across this thread as I am starting orlistat next week - are you still going and did it work well enough for you to keep going (re side effects etc)?

Dinkiedoo · 12/03/2024 15:50

Not losing weight at all last few weeks

poppetandmog · 24/03/2024 20:02

I have just started on these. Need to lose 4 stone before I can have an operation that I need and my GP recommend I try these. Only on day 2 and weirdly constipated. Sticking to a fairly low fat diet and 1800 calories a day.

Dinkiedoo · 25/03/2024 05:14

Its fairly common to get constpated. I take fibrogel when this happens.
Good luck with weight loss xx

notveryrelaxed · 25/03/2024 22:39

Yes I’ve heard this too so fibre and a bit of fat are important.

Im on day 5 and feeling good - no horrible side effects so far but I’ve eaten very low fat and not been tested working away from the house just yet. Positive though!

Hope it goes well for you :)

notveryrelaxed · 29/03/2024 08:44

Lost 3lbs in the first week so pleased! How are you guys doing?

Dinkiedoo · 29/03/2024 11:52

Im losing weight but painfully slow . Constipated too

notveryrelaxed · 29/03/2024 18:10

Ahh sorry to hear that - but at least losing!

I hope it carries on for me but I’ve had such a low fat week, not sure it’s sustainable with visitors this week!

Dinkiedoo · 30/03/2024 11:02

I only eat 2 meals a day now. Im seeing my GP on Friday . If not enough weight lost she will stop them. I cant seem to win. Ive lost 2.5 kgs in 3 months

poppetandmog · 01/04/2024 21:09

I've lost 4lbs in my first week and finishing it relatively straightforward. Trying to stick to 1800 cals and 15g of fat per meal. Although I ate my first bit of chocolate tonight (half a small Easter egg) so have the fear now. I am missing chocolate and mayonnaise but otherwise managing okay.

notveryrelaxed · 04/04/2024 13:30

Same here! Been off the strictness a bit this week and could feel it but lost another 4lbs so feeling positive!

Hope you’re still getting on ok?

Dinkiedoo · 13/04/2024 12:33

Nope. GP gave me another month's worth . Will see how it goes. If no joy will stop .
Totally fed up
