Hi all - new year, new thread 😁 Will try to link to this from the previous one but not sure if I can do it from the app.

In keeping with good beginnings I am off to have berries, nuts and yoghurt. Could murder a load of toast though!

I think I see it as a tool to guide healthier choices rather than strict rules, which I like. And there are some pretty good swaps possible once you start thinking about it.

Peae · 02/01/2024 12:13

How long are people subscribing for? It’s too pricey for me long term, but I don’t want to quit too early, before I’ve embedded some good changes.

I signed up for a year. Regret set in quite quickly but I'm trying to see it as an investment in me - sorry that sounds a bit painful. And realistically without some accountability I am unlikely to stick to it!

Am away in a hotel this coming weekend so hoping to make sensible Zoe choices without getting either obsessed or miserable!

I signed up for a year too. I didn’t think 4 months would be long enough for me to change my habits. And having essentially wasted a month in December with loads of meals out, I am glad that I have it for longer. I think 6 months would be ideal but that’s not an option.
i am missing Diet Coke. I’m trying to go cold turkey on it. I love it and drink loads every day. Today is my first day without it. Maybe I am giving up too much in one go. I’m doing dry January too.

Peae · 02/01/2024 13:45

How much would you normally drink @Greenthread ? I'm on two a day, a can is 33 for me, so I'm going to let that tick over for a bit. (Am going away in February and will need to quit before then anyway).

@thinkofablinkingnamewoman I'm signed up for 4 months. May extend, especially as there seems to be a dangled carrot of a gut biome retest(?).

79andnotout · 02/01/2024 14:12

I signed up for four months but wrote off one month of that in december. I read some stuff about how bad artificial sweeteners are for you and that helped me kick my fizzy drink habit years ago, now I find them disgusting. If only I could do the same for sweets and biscuits!

SkatieKatie · 02/01/2024 14:22

Thank you for starting this thread

There does seem to be a lot to take in and learn. I'm also finding I'm having to unlearn all the "diet wisdom" of old that's been such a huge part of my life since I was a teen a long time ago

My blood fat was excellent, my gut health good and my blood sugar poor. I think I would have guessed at that although I also thought my gut health would come back as poor. I've been taking gut love by the naked pharmacy for a few months and I'm sure that has made a difference

Onwards and upwards!

Hi, here from the Nov thread.

I have been eating this bread, I make it in my bread maker. It apparently scores 94 for me but I am skeptical. It's lovely - chewy, seedy, filling. Can you guys check it on your apps?

https://www.bodyandfit.com/en-gb/Products/Food-%26-Bars/Home-baking/Baking-Pre-mixes/Protein-Bread-Mix/p/p_11295

Thank you for sharing this. It gives me 90. I'm going to order some right now!

Peae · 02/01/2024 16:54

Wow that Netflix documentary, You Are What You Eat: A Twin Experiment, is sobering viewing. I'm only half way through, but it's seriously making me rethink meat-eating. I am definitely going to move to using only organic meat, for a start.

ErrolTheDragon · 02/01/2024 17:29

DH has signed up for a year and also bought more CGMs. His sugar control is very poor, and when my subscription finishes I can safely assume that anything that scores ok for him will be ok or better for me too.

thinkofablinkingnamewoman · 02/01/2024 18:07

Thanks for the bread mix tip @terriblewoman - scores 91 for me so I'll be buying some shortly!

Is this bad in terms of sugar spikes? Sorry I just feel like no idea what I'm doing!

It's lovely (the bread) I was just a bit skeptical that I can eat bread freely.

Started well today - toast from said bread with hummus, avocado, olives and artichoke hearts for lunch. Then a slice of Christmas cake (score zero) and all downhill from there really.

Mine looks like this. No idea what it means either. Hopefully we'll get more info as we go along.

Interesting to see they've updated the gut microbiome scores. I'm not surprised to see that mine has fallen from good to poor.

Peae · 03/01/2024 09:32

Same here @SkatieKatie . Is there a pdf breakdown of the new information does anyone know?

ErrolTheDragon · 03/01/2024 10:40

My score only changed a bit, from 86 to 83. The breakdown shows 40/50 good and 5/50 bad.

Greenthread · 03/01/2024 11:06

I don’t have an updated score! When did people who’ve had an update do their original tests? I did mine the first week in November (I think).

Diet Coke, I have a 4 can a day habit. Well, rather, I stop myself after 4 most days. Sometimes more. Rarely less. I had one can yesterday, determined not to have any more. Then ran to the shop at 8.45pm and bought another one. And then didn’t sleep last night.

Seaitoverthere · 03/01/2024 11:22

Can I join in anticipation of my test kit arriving please? I have just signed up this morning and it says it will be dispatched in 3 to 5 days. I need to lose loads of weight and will be having a hip replacement at some point. I also have psoriatic arthritis and hoping to get my levels of inflammation down. My orthopaedic consultant recommended it which tipped the balance as I had been thinking about it for a bit and reading these threads with interest.

The consultant lost weight and reversed his T2. He said he found the Libre so helpful he bought his own and continued with them for 6 weeks. I decided to get one and am finding it really interesting.

BaileysAllRound · 03/01/2024 11:22

It's my test day today. The breakfast cookies were ok but terribly dry. Afterwards felt quite nauseous for a while though.
My blood sugar has been pretty low most of the time since putting the monitor on last night, not sure if that's expected with the fasting and cookies.

Will see what happens when I can have normal food again!

Mine’s gone from good to excellent which I’m surprised about. Good news though.

ErrolTheDragon · 03/01/2024 11:40

Feeling sick after the cookies is quite normal I think. I'm not sure if the size is varied according to the weight and sex of the person, DH ate his quite happily but seems like most people on here - who I assume are mostly or all women - found them rather too much.

BaileysAllRound · 03/01/2024 11:54

Interesting. There seemed to be two options available- my barcode didn't scan so you pick which meal it is from 2 options. I'm a large woman though, 5'11" and 14 stone.
On the blue ones now, they are a bit more palatable.

Peae · 03/01/2024 12:04

@BaileysAllRound i understand they do take some hours to settle down and be accurate. I didn’t drop in to the read, can you feel anything in your body at those times? One time I dipped was after not eating properly and then marching home due to the rain. I felt dreadful by the time I was home.

Ours didn't scan either; iirc the two options were just the two different cookies. It seemed like something that was just to ensure you were eating them in the right order.
