Starting a thread for the carnivores out there :D I feel the whole weight loss chat has been taken over by people taking all those different shots that are so expensive!!

I started the carnivore diet 10 days ago and its the first time ive actually lost weight properly and feel great! Ive tried every diet i remember and they all made me starving and eat way too much but this is amazing!! so far ive lost 1lb a day last 10 days basically.

Starting weight: 90kg
Current weight: 87kg
Goal weight: 63ish kg

Diet:
Breakfast 9.30am - 3 Poached eggs with 1 bottle of water ( yes that's all as i never used to have breakfast so its a big change for me and eating too much this early will make me feel sick so i eat them very slowly)
Lunch 12:30am - 1Large rump steak and 1 bottle of water
Dinner 4.30pm- 1 large rump Steak or fatty Beef of any kind, 2 poached eggs and 2 bottles of water
Calorie total ( around 1300 calories if not using butter or oil but i don't calorie count)

Everyday Workouts: Everyday i do the couch to 5k but i'm a beginner so mostly i do half of it then i do 10 minute "growwithjo" workout fromyoutube and then ive just started 5 minute Kettlebell workout. On the weekends i may miss a workout due to kids being home but i still try to at least do either my growwithjo or kettlebell workout.

Would love to find a buddy :)

Or maybe they have just forgotten about this thread, can’t be arsed to post again or have had any number of things happen in life that means updating a thread on a non important forum really doesn’t matter to them?

No one owes a reply or an update.

regenerate · 24/01/2024 07:02

a support thread started on the 8th and ended on the 9th. ok!

BeethovenNinth · 24/01/2024 07:26

How did you get on OP? Did you manage to stick to it?

There’s a Reddit sub for sharing carnivore research, which is interesting.

Peer reviewed studies require funding, many such funding comes from grain corporations so it’s not easy to find unbiased research.

Studies that are shared tend to be small scale, but are interesting. Iirc it’s been found that in the case of many chronic illnesses (particularly those related to mast cell disorders and mitochondrial diseases) following a carnivore diet for a few months and beyond can improve a patient’s symptoms. For many of these patients eating grain and certain veg keep them ill, even when they’re following what is accepted as a healthy diet.

There was a study looking at constipation, following several people with chronic constipation. A control group carried on eating the same way, a second group increased fruit and veg consumption, a third group followed a carnivore diet. The most improvement over several months was seen in the carnivore group.

Anecdotally, there are many ex vegans who switch to carnivore to fix the effects of the vegan diet, although I suspect a carnivore diet is limited enough to suit those with disordered eating, but if it helps it helps.

The thing is, there isn’t reliable, unbiased data yet to show the long term effects of a carnivore diet, and most who follow it do so for a few months.

It’s not that long ago when the gut biome was dismissed as pseudoscience, and talked about in the exact same way that the carnivore diet is now. Keto was also considered dangerous and faddy - it’s now being adopted by more and more diabetes related health care professionals, in fact Sweden’s national diet advice is now a keto or low carb diet! In terms of diet advice and nutrition the next few years are going to be interesting!

For some reason I got a notification about this. The part about Sweden is incorrect. In fact the most recent guidelines recommend more plant based diet with lots of beans, lentils and other pulses.

I’m Swedish and happy to translate this for you.

Den grönare Matcirkeln

Nu har Matcirkeln uppdaterats till en grönare version! För att vi ska kunna ställa om till ett mer hållbart sätt att leva är det bra att äta mer växtbaserat

Apologies - I read it a few years ago (various websites and here on MN) the headlines stating that Seden had adopted this diet were apparently taken out of context. More diabetics and obese people are advised to follow a lower carb diet.

BeethovenNinth · 24/01/2024 09:37

I think there can be amazing results. What about long term though? From zero veg and so some micronutrients? (I am not talking about bread and pasta here).

I would like to see the longer term impact on the microbiome. I have a friend who is strict keto which basically cured her ME but she has now developed thyroid issues and I wonder if her thyroid is becoming cranky due to a lack of glucose from a small amount of carbs

Lots of people had success on a carnivore diet. It seems to attract people who mostly have a problem eating plants (as in, digesting them). It's not for everyone, however. It's not for me as I think I would find it rather boring.

Diet Doctor is a great resource for low carb which I find to be balanced and scientifically based. Here's what they say about the carnivore diet:

The Carnivore Diet: Is It Healthy and What Do You Eat? — Diet Doctor
