Starting a thread for the carnivores out there :D I feel the whole weight loss chat has been taken over by people taking all those different shots that are so expensive!!

I started the carnivore diet 10 days ago and its the first time ive actually lost weight properly and feel great! Ive tried every diet i remember and they all made me starving and eat way too much but this is amazing!! so far ive lost 1lb a day last 10 days basically.

Starting weight: 90kg
Current weight: 87kg
Goal weight: 63ish kg

Diet:
Breakfast 9.30am - 3 Poached eggs with 1 bottle of water ( yes that's all as i never used to have breakfast so its a big change for me and eating too much this early will make me feel sick so i eat them very slowly)
Lunch 12:30am - 1Large rump steak and 1 bottle of water
Dinner 4.30pm- 1 large rump Steak or fatty Beef of any kind, 2 poached eggs and 2 bottles of water
Calorie total ( around 1300 calories if not using butter or oil but i don't calorie count)

Everyday Workouts: Everyday i do the couch to 5k but i'm a beginner so mostly i do half of it then i do 10 minute "growwithjo" workout fromyoutube and then ive just started 5 minute Kettlebell workout. On the weekends i may miss a workout due to kids being home but i still try to at least do either my growwithjo or kettlebell workout.

Would love to find a buddy :)

If you're cooking a lot of beef steaks I recommend getting beef dripping to cook it in. So what is your list of allowed foods? Genuinely curious!

Parentofeanda · 09/12/2023 07:28

Thing is i didnt ask for advice, i wanted to meet other people on the diet :) What i do with my body is up to me and if i get sick or i die from whatever then thats up to me to make my own decision, it may be the worse mistake i make who knows but i didnt ask for opinions, This isnt a long term thing for me no, this is a weight loss thing as right now the weight loss is great considering nothing else was working for me, Vegan, vegetarian, living off salads, Balanced, slimming world Nor WW they all left me starving and craving all food and sugar. for now this is working and i feel great, first time ive also had the energy to workout everyday as i used to just sit on my sofa all day wanting to sleep. SO right now, this is my choice.

@StoatofDisarray

So i eat :
Eggs
Bacon
Steak
Beef of any kind
Chicken of any kind
Fish ( Mostly Salmon for me)

Also to those talking about vegetables... i never ate vegetables anyway so no change there, only time i ate vegetables was when i tried a "balanced diet" and i was left shattered and sluggish.

I am going to Japan next year (mostly what i am losing weight for because right now i wouldn't make it round the shops ) and definitely wont be on this diet on that holiday :D But for now, I am happy.

Also to a previous person to ask Yes, it was my uncle that got my husband on it because my husband was going to him for advice on the pains .. duh.
It worked for him and he lost a bit of weight ( although was always fit) and got great muscle without even working out much so i was amazed, figured last week i would try it too.

No judgement here OP. I love eating a high protein diet although I've never gone full carnivore or gone into ketosis. There's no doubt that eating protein keeps you feeling full for longer simply because it takes longer to digest and I can see how it would appeal if you are also restricting your calories.

Have you tried a good quality bone broth as a warming evening drink?

Missingmyusername · 09/12/2023 07:56

This sounds incredibly unhealthy long term. No fruit, no veg, it must be tough on the bowels to say the least.

NigelHarmansNewWife · 09/12/2023 07:59

I've read the thread because I was interested to see what the diet was. I hope it works out for you OP because after a week or two I could imagine it getting very dull and therefore difficult to stick to.

Parentofeanda · 09/12/2023 08:04

@Missingmyusername thing is i havent eaten fruit or veg since childhood So dont see much changing there even if i wasnt on a carnivore diet, i used to just eat Rice, curry, breads, snacks and processed meat... etc so technically my original diet wasnt healthy either and actually was less healthy by far as i also drank crap and most of my diet in ever meal included heaps of sugar

Parentofeanda · 09/12/2023 08:06

although as i said, im not interested in peoples opinions :) it may be really unhealthy long term but i didnt ask.

Thank you to those that generally gave me tips etc

Parentofeanda · 09/12/2023 08:32

@contactus I dont work no except for a hobby type job, i have a 4 and 5 year old and my husband works from home but this isnt about what other people do, if you work then either take chicken in Pot or dont do the diet doesnt bother me.

all the best with it

Ohwhatthewhatwhatnow · 09/12/2023 11:11

Morning @Parentofeanda Glad you're still here! I weighed in this morning, actually not as bad as I feared. The would-be hijackers in here remind me why I never stuck with this before; so many people in real life took it as an invitation to lecture me on my diet as soon as they got a whiff I was doing something different. I went vegan for 5 months a few years back and felt the worst I have ever felt, put on loads of weight and haven't really bounced back so I'm feeling good about doing this as a reset. My body just doesn't like carbs 🤷‍♀️

Ohwhatthewhatwhatnow · 09/12/2023 11:15

@contactus one of the side effects of this way of eating is that it massively curbs your hunger and cravings if you do it right. I'm hoping I'll get right back into it, but the idea is to fill up when you're hungry, then wait until you're genuinely hungry again. I very rarely found myself wanting to eat out or during the working day.

contactus · 09/12/2023 16:30

@Ohwhatthewhatwhatnow it sounds like it really worked for you on all levels.

So how come you gave it up? and “ballooned”?

Ohwhatthewhatwhatnow · 09/12/2023 16:38

@contactus bet you're fun at parties! You're clearly not here to support so I wonder why you are so invested 👀

Ohwhatthewhatwhatnow · 09/12/2023 17:10

@StoatofDisarray I used to make bone broth in a pressure cooker (which I no longer have). Do you make it yourself or have any recommendations please?

I buy it: www.springbroth.com

A big bottle will last me all week!

CortieTat · 09/12/2023 20:26

I wonder why it’s called “carnivore diet”? Real carnivores don’t eat bits and pieces of lean muscle or pure fat, they eat whole animals including their stomach contents, etc. Cats eating birds eat everything, including the grain and fruit their prey consumed. This diet sounds very restrictive and I imagine it’s easy to develop serious deficiencies in the long run.

Iateallllllthepies · 11/12/2023 11:27

Go for it, OP.

I eat a protein based diet, although I do eat a lot green veg. No grains, no dairy, no processed food, no seed oils, no real or fake sugars (but plenty of olive oil and coconut oil). I don’t eat fruit other than the odd bit of watermelon as I’ve never liked it.

I am always told my diet is restrictive (has to be medically as I’m coeliac and dairy intolerant and gluten free/dairy free food is just packed with nasty ingredients and fillers so I won’t touch it), that I am doing myself damage.

Usually by people who live off cereal, bread and pasta, while stuffing cake in their mouth and planning their third take away of the week, saying their diet is balanced as they eat a couple of apples a week (looking at you, SIL).

It’s really bloody boring to have your diet picked apart by people who don’t understand it.

TroglodytesTroglodytes · 11/12/2023 19:57

It’s something that I’m thinking of giving a go although I will add in a few low carb extras like cucumber, mushrooms and tomatoes. So will follow this thread with interest. I am constantly on the diet merry go round of starting something new and getting extremely hungry and then binging. I need something to quell my hunger.

Keto based diet and you will never be hungry.

BlueberryVelvet · 11/12/2023 20:24

I’ll join you OP.

I eat carnivore for Hashimotos and a family history of cancer.

I did keto for 6 years and I’m a year on carnivore now. I do throw in some above ground veg sometimes to keep me on track.

Puffling235 · 11/12/2023 21:25

Hi OP,

Not carnivore but I'm loosely following an 'animal-based diet' a la Paul Saladino. He can seem a bit much, but his information matches what I'd already learned elsewhere, though he does go further.

Focus is on well-raised grass fed meat (beef and lamb), offal, a bit of pasture raised chicken, pasture raised eggs, raw dairy, bone broth, organic fruit and raw honey/maple (the carbs, for energy). Chicken is better for you cooked on the bone btw!

Removal of highly toxic seed oils. I use a lot of very good olive oil (not per Paul Saladino) and grass fed butter. High good fats. I also take fish oil (not recommended by PS).

I'm by no means strict, but the above are supposed to be the most nutritious foods on the planet so I try to incorporate some at every home meal. I will eat some veg but don't go out of my way to have them and try to focus on the least toxic ones. Fruit also includes squash, pumpkin, avo and cucumber.

Not strict with the dcs either, older child eats as she likes when elsewhere, but she has absolutely thrived in herself since making these adjustments at home. Havent mentioned it to them at all beyond discussing general nutrition and of course I still try to cater to their likes.

Puffling235 · 11/12/2023 21:39

Forgot to mention, not doing for weight loss but health reasons. None of us over-weight.
