6 weeks until Christmas Day - who wants to lose half a stone?

Hollyhead · 13/11/2023 09:48

I have been trying to lose the same half a stone all year, I’m sick to death of it, and if I’m honest I haven’t really tried. I’m not even that bothered about the weight number being exactly half a stone, it’s 2 inches I want to loose from bum/hips/stomach.

I know what I want to do - steps, home weight workouts, some 16:8 fasting and following a set regime of the following diet choices
Breakfast - eggs &a vegetable OR yoghurt with seeds/fruit OR porridge

Lunch - salad OR homemade soup OR plant based tray bake type thing (such as lentils and roasted veg

Dinner - small version of what we’re having with veg replacing carbs where possible - so for instance instead of rice with a stir fry do an extra portion of steamed broccoli.

Anyone want to join me with any weight loss method permissible? Whether it’s vanity pounds or getting a big weight loss kickstarted let’s do this! My wardrobe is full of clothes I love that I can only just get on, I want them back 😁

@SweatpantPotato 2.5lb loss is amaaaazing. Tbh, I'd be pleased if that's all I achieved between now and Christmas!

There's so much going on, food related, but feel encouraged after another OMAD day today. Feels so good to be in control! (unlike the start of the week 😂)

Hollyhead · 01/12/2023 08:26

morning everyone! Theoretically no loss for me but I feel much slimmer so it may/may not show up on the scales soon! Think I’m approaching 1.5cm lost around arse too. Keep up the good work!

Justmeandmyself · 01/12/2023 09:01

@Hollyhead Great job- always good to feel slimmer!
I’m the opposite. Have lost weight on the scales but feeling chunkier. How does that even work?! 😂

piscofrisco · 01/12/2023 12:16

Well done @Hollyhead

Toomanyemails · 02/12/2023 09:14

Morning everyone, sounds like people are doing well! Good luck for the weekend.
It's going to be a really busy few days for me which will hit my stepcount and exercise. I've also had to cancel a catchup with friends which I'm sad about, but it will at least mean less junk food and temptation.
Yesterday's meals were:
Bacon and brie toastie and small latte at the local cafe
Chicken, peas and potatoes
And 2 chocolates

Not sure the 2 meals a day suits me, but it was a way to have a slightly more indulgent lunch.

Ohyesthankyouglitter · 02/12/2023 10:47

Morning everyone, just checking in. Weekends are usually my downfall, especially in the winter when the fire and TV are on 😊. Not going to be super strict today, but will try and do an extended fast eg 18:6 or longer- will see how the day goes
Good luck everyone

Hollyhead · 02/12/2023 14:02

Hi @Toomanyemails yes I agree the 2 meals strategy can be a good one if you want something more indulgent than normal.

And yes @Ohyesthankyouglitter weekends are often the cause of my plateauing too I think, I did quite well last night - kept my portion size really sensible, and will try and do the same today and tomorrow. Hoping to get a loss on the scales on Monday. But exercise is trickier for me this weekend as really busy with other things.

Well done everyone!
I'm starting to flag a bit on motivation (DH took some pictures of me with DS2 this morning and I can just see how far I have to go!) but did resist a fancy hot chocolate whilst freezing my bum off at a santa grotto today!

Weigh in tomorrow morning so will see how things go. I do have loads less leg pain though so one definite plus side even if scales disagree.

I did however buy myself some suck in leggings so if all else fails I can fake it under a jumper dress!

Hollyhead · 03/12/2023 19:24

Hi everyone. So yesterday was a bit of a write off as I ended up cracking open the Quality Street, but I feel as though I might be more on track again today. Feeling a bit nervous about tomorrow's weigh in... although, DH told me my bum definitely looked 'sleeker' yesterday, so I'm definitely taking that as a non scale victory!

Good luck everyone weighing in tomorrow. And @Scottishskifun although you feel you still have a way to go - imagine if you'd not started, and how if you put your mind to it, this time next week a bit more of your journey will be done. And well done on resisting the fancy hot chocolate - ££ saving as well as lb burning :D

Evening all - not a car crash of a weekend, but not great. Going to do an extended fast tomorrow to try and get back on track.

Scottishskifun · 03/12/2023 22:03

@Hollyhead thanks yes good way of thinking about it! I struggle sometimes because I used to be fit and active and long covid makes that incredibly hard. Ive gone from hill walking to if I walk a mile I'm doing well! So I hate photos as it reminds me of that change.

But the intermittent fasting is definitely helping and I've not needed as much pain relief the last 10 days

Toomanyemails · 03/12/2023 22:15

@Scottishskifun well done on resisting the hot choc, and I hope you're able to enjoy some photos still - it can be hard to see physical changes but hope it's a nice memory of your day out with DS all the same! Sorry to hear about long covid.

I've managed to stay on plan this weekend, only because it's been a bit of a rubbish one with no chance to socialise or mooch around town! As a result my stepcount is a pathetic 2k, but aiming to get back on the exercise and steps tomorrow.

Ohyesthankyouglitter · 04/12/2023 07:27

Morning, just weighed myself and am exactly the same weight as two weeks ago!!
But don't feel too disappointed. I wonder whether the original weight was especially low (had been fasting the day before etc) so this all feels like it's going in the right direction. My clothes definitely feel slightly looser. Onwards and upwards!

Hollyhead · 04/12/2023 08:17

yep @Ohyesthankyouglitter me too - scales up a bit this morning, but I wore a skirt yesterday that was too tight in the summer. Looked at my cycle tracking and I’m ovulating which always makes me retain water a bit (although not as bad as the PMt phase). Going to have a good week this week as have already made a batch of soup.

OP posts:
Scottishskifun · 04/12/2023 08:22

The resistance for the £4 epic hot chocolate was worth it.
Weigh in this morning 11 stone 10lb so a loss of 2.5lb this week. 1.5cm off my hip measurement which is good.
So I'm going to go back to my original aim of 1 stone off by January but to be concentrating on fit of clothes more!

This week aim to keep going and get ready for period bloat the following week!

Hollyhead · 04/12/2023 08:52

Bloody hell well done @Scottishskifun ! What a great start to the week for you.

Thanks I think my trusty soup maker is keeping me right as I can make healthy tasty soups quickly which I top with some dry fried protein be it quorn pieces, left over chicken etc. Today's soup was mushroom and garlic. Double win on low calorie high protein/fibre.

I have to be gluten free so don't miss bread with it which makes things easier.

I'm still having carbs but reduced volume at dinner (my boys have very carb heavy meals!)

Hollyhead · 04/12/2023 14:46

I am now very tempted by a soup maker…

OP posts:
Toomanyemails · 04/12/2023 19:11

@Scottishskifun amazing result!

I've had 3 days in a row with no chocolate/cake/biscuits which is good by my standards. Baby steps as I'm working towards a healthier lifestyle! I could still do better at focusing on whole foods though, I've had a lot of protein bars as an easy snack

Hollyhead · 05/12/2023 07:58

Morning all - much better weighin for me this morning - my lowest weight yet by 100g, I’ve definitely lost 2lb for ‘good’ now, so although I won’t make the half stone until Christmas, I reckon I might make it to 4lb which will definitely make my clothes fit better, as they already are. Going to do the school run on foot this morning, then stick to my healthy brocolli soup I made yesterday.

Had an awful weekend and yesterday due to feeling generally rubbish and DD's birthday. Back to it today. Harder when you have had three days of eating delicious things.

Same boat here. And I've regained a pound and a half. Bah it's so hard trying to lose weight this time of year!

SlurpSlooChortle · 05/12/2023 10:25

Why is it when the weather is cold all I want to do is drink tea with biscuits and stockpile comfort food.
Trying to do 10k steps a day is really hard when the weather is bad.

I've taken to doing bursts of running on the spot when I need a break from a particularly bad work email and that's boosted my steps a bit.

Scottishskifun · 05/12/2023 16:06

@SlurpSlooChortle I treat myself to nice sugar free coffee syrups (currently on hazelnut) so I can feel like I'm having a treat at home especially in the cold weather. The flavoured options hot chocolates are also great for this.

I haven't tried the biscuit tea you can get apparently it's a bit marmite love or hate.

I forgot I had my work Xmas party this week so that will be a management situation but no booze as have to drive!
