Losing weight but not obvious!

Just a moan really!

Have lost 12 pounds (26 to go!) and honestly you can't tell I don't think. No one has commented, which is fine - I don't comment on people's weight unless they do - but actually, I don't think you can tell anyway.

I know it's because I had quite a bit to lose, and obviously it's good that I've started the journey, but was hoping my clothes might look a bit better or something! Not looking for advice really, as I say I know the reasons why, but can anyone else relate?

@Coruisk well done! Similar here, lost 14 lbs and have 20 to go. Clothes no different really, tightened massive bra a notch, lost a half inch on my waist. That’s about it. I think it will be another 14 lbs for me before I can move into my smaller clothes. Keep going!

Coruisk · 02/10/2023 11:52

We sound very similar! Tbh I don't mind people not commenting, as I hate talk about weight etc, but was hoping I would've noticed a bit 🤣

I have lost 30lb in the last few months and I didn't really see a difference on myself until about 20lb was gone. There's an analogy about this - if you have a brand new tube of kitchen roll and an almost empty tube of kitchen roll and remove five sheets from each, the impact on the almost-finished tube looks much greater because the surface area from which the sheets have been removed is much smaller. In other words, the more you lose, the more impactful it will be :)

Sedgwick · 02/10/2023 14:30

@TSsupafan that makes sense thanks! And well done on your weight loss.

SarahLHs · 02/10/2023 14:32

I've lost 3 stone this year and honestly people didn't start to notice until I'd lost about 2.

StanleyOscar · 02/10/2023 15:50

Congratulations on losing 12lbs, that's a great start!

Two years ago, I lost 78lbs, starting at 18st 7lbs. Nobody noticed or said anything until I lost 53lbs at 14st 10lbs. I didn't notice any change really myself until I lost over 3st.

Hang in there, it will happen.

Divebar2021 · 02/10/2023 15:55

That’s really interesting because I lost 14lbs and went down a dress size. I tend to lose it around my waist though. Perhaps im now wearing more of my tops tucked in so you can see my shape? If you’re losing it more evenly across your body it may be less obvious.

Puritizer · 02/10/2023 16:01

Was 2 stone loss before people said anything. Now at 2.5 stone and some people including friends haven’t mentioned it. Half a stone left to get to goal so it’s very obvious. The issue is with other people I guess and appreciate I’m not front and centre in their minds but in one specific case with someone I see about 2-3 times a week, she said to someone when highlighted to her “didn’t notice it myself”. I wasn’t massive but dropped a couple of dress sizes so not insignificant.

Bananas1350 · 02/10/2023 16:04

I think it is different for everyone. I have lost a stone and I’m a whole dress size down. And my husband says he can see it and so can I. But I know my husband has done well with his weight loss but I cannot see it yet.

i bought a small in a jumper yesterday and with my smaller jeans I can see myself looking much thinner.

Needeyebrows · 02/10/2023 16:10

I've lost four and a half stone this year and the only person who has noticed it is my DH. Ive gone from 15 12.. to 11 6 and not one comment from family or friends 🤷‍♀️

Justrolledmyeyesoutloud · 02/10/2023 16:29

I was going to mention the kitchen roll thing too.
Lost 35lbs once and my best mate didn't even notice so l took it that apart from me, no-one cares what l weigh or that she hadn't seen my weight slowly creep up.
And the last time l told someone how amazing they looked from having lost so much weight, it turned out she was very ill so l tend to not comment now.

Coruisk · 02/10/2023 16:48

Some inspiring weight loss stories!

I totally get other people not commenting or even noticing, I generally don't notice other people's weight (certainly don't notice it like my own!) and wouldn't generally comment unless they did. I'd hate people to think I was saying they looked bad before or anything like that.

It's just I can't really notice it on myself that's annoying 😁

@Needeyebrows i wonder if people don’t want to upset u. Being told I had lost weight meaning I was over weight and noticeably so in the first place. Does that make sense ?

TokyoSushi · 02/10/2023 17:14

I've lost 2st and people have literally only just started to notice!

whosaidtha · 02/10/2023 18:27

I've lost nearly 5 stone. I took progress picture every month and honestly couldn't tell until I'd lost about 3. It's annoying but now I can tell so worth it.

wlv12 · 02/10/2023 22:34

Well done on your loss! I’m nearly at 2.5 stone loss, it wasn’t until 2 stone + loss that people started mentioning it, now I’m getting more and more people mentioning it although my sister hasn’t said a word!

Menora · 03/10/2023 07:36

Same I only got comments at 2 stone loss

squashi · 03/10/2023 07:42

Well done OP, stick at it! The difference will be obvious before you know it. I've lost quite a bit of weight in the last year - it started to show at about 2 stone, and I was buying new clothes by 3 stone. I was probably heavier than you, but still! It's worth the effort.

DynamicK · 03/10/2023 07:44

My friend has told me that she's lost a stone lately. I did notice she'd lost a bit of weight but I thought maybe 5lbs or something as only her face looked a bit slimmer. So I didn't comment but did once she'd said something.

If she sees you two or three times a week she probably didn’t notice as the weight loss would have been gradual.
Someone who hadn’t seen you for say a month is more likely to notice the weight loss.

Puritizer · 03/10/2023 10:13

I see the other people with the same frequency as her. It’s a hobby we all do and wear fairly tight clothing and they noticed.

There were periods, maybe when I was on holiday or she didn’t turn up, so didn’t always see each other with same frequency.

She definitely had noticed but had put on weight herself so probably that was part of it. I don’t care anymore but it certainly gives you an unexpected insight to some people.

flexigirl · 03/10/2023 16:45

If it makes you feel any better, I've lost four stone and nobody has noticed a THING . Quite depressing really but I've gone from size 30 to an 18 so my health is much improved. Well done on the weight loss OP ! Don't be disheartened

Coruisk · 03/10/2023 16:58

Bloody hell @flexigirl ! What a fab loss though, you should be dead proud of yourself!

Don't lose heart OP, I think it does come down to body shape quite a bit.

I'm huge but my partner has noticed the stone or so I have lost. However, I know from being several stone lighter in the past, that my thighs will continue to be absolutely massive until I have lost a lot of weight.
