Losing weight but not belly fat?!

I’m calorie counting and have lost almost 3 stone in 5-6 months. I can notice a different in my face, shoulders/chest and arms but still have lots of fat around my belly/hips. Will this eventually go if I carry on or will I just have this flabby belly forever?! I am trying to do some exercise aswell now when I find the time!

How old are you?
past 45 ish, belly fat is seriously affected by cortisol, so your exercise needs to be gentler!

I have lost 4 stone. 11st to 7st. I still have a belly/overhang thing. It's smaller, yes. But it's there so can't wear tight dresses without tummy control pants. It actually really upsets me as I thought losing all my weight would make me super confident etc but the belly pulls me back.

You could try exercising with a twist stepper. I have one and I find it great for toning my waist and stomach.

I’m 25 if that makes a difference.

@orande I completely get how you feel. I’m so glad that I’ve lost the weight I have and still am losing, but I really feel like this overhang belly just isn’t going to budge and my main reason for trying to lose weight was because of my belly. It’s quite upsetting

I only had a flat stomach when I reached my lowest weight which was unrealistic to maintain. Thing is, it's natural for women to retain belly fat. There's no point fighting it. Everyone else has it, the instagrammers are either outliers or posing deceptively.

If you are middle aged belly fat is the absolute last fat to go. Mine started to go when I reached a bmi of 19 and I had to sacrifice my boobs first!

NutellaEllaElla · 30/09/2023 21:14

Yup, you can't have a flat stomach with boobs and a bum.

It was the same for me until I took my copper coil out and then I lost a lot of cm from my waist. People will say that a copper coil doesn't cause weight gain but I was a size 8 and look pregnant for 7 years until I took it out.

You can at least build muscle in your bum. All the skinny women with big boobs though must have implants.
