Anyone starting Zoe in November?

Not just about weight loss but thought this might be the best place to post the thread. I've just signed up and should be starting in November, wondering if anyone else is and wants to share experiences?

I still struggle to understand how eating an apple smeared in peanut butter is way better for my body than just eating an apple, when my main goal is weight loss (and health)...

Well... maybe eat a smaller apple, or a bit less at the meal before or after?

Memeapple · 07/12/2023 22:26

@ErrolTheDragon The point is that if a plain apple spikes your glucose levels you might get hungrier earlier and eat more as a reaction to the subsequent dip. Secondly glucose spikes are not healthy and promote insulin resistance > inflammation > diabetes so are best avoided.

Makes no difference to the Zoe score.
As Memeapple says, it's to avoid blood sugar spikes and dips. And it is working, I am not gnawingly hungry any more, so I guess overall I eat less.

So, has anyone lost any weight yet?

Incogg · 09/12/2023 12:01

Nope 😁 But my preferences are actually changing and I’m not sure how/why.

Greenthread · 09/12/2023 12:12

I have lost 2lb. Not bad considering my scores have been 50-60 every day. I feel like my tastes are changing a bit and I’m not wanting quite as much sugar as before.

I have lost 3 kg

Memeapple · 09/12/2023 15:29

@Greenthread

I've lost 1.5kg and counting. I also did a Dexa scan before Zoe which found I was mostly fat so am trying to build muscle whilst losing fat. I haven't eaten bread for about 3 weeks.

Vanquishedagain · 09/12/2023 17:27

Gosh these are all very inspiring! Last day CGM for me and I’m impatiently waiting for my report.

The other thing you can do with your Zoe results is look at your gut bacteria and work out which ones are good and which ones are back and try to find ways to decrease the bad ones. It's the full breakdown in the last part of the Gut PDF.

For instance I have high bacillus fragilis which can be related to development of CRC.

After a long search on Pub Med I've now found that eating almonds regularly will decrease this bad bacteria (only bad when it's found in high amounts and is good when found in normal smaller amounts).

Zoe is so much more than weight loss or 'healthy eating' in my opinion.

If you've got any chronic niggles, autoimmune diseases or other issues, it's definitely worth checking through your gut data to try and find the cause of your issue/s.

I’m about to start Zoe, kit arriving on Tuesday.

Hope it’s ok if I tag onto this November start thread. Worried that if I start a new December starters one then maybe no one will join.

Good luck with it. I'm just over a week in and really enjoying it and learning a lot about my body's relationship with food. My best bit of advice would be to make sure that you don't have anything major planned for the testing day. It's pretty full on especially with all the timings and I'm glad I picked a quiet Sunday.

OrbitingTheEarth · 11/12/2023 14:24

I am with you. ON day 2 so had the cookies and blood test yesterday and managed the poo sample this morning. Scanning my arm is quite addictive

hippospot · 11/12/2023 17:48

@SoySaucePls I'm doing Zoe to see if I can improve an autoimmune condition. I need to study the small print of the microbiome analysis I think.

I don't have weight to lose. I'm actually quite shocked at the calories I'm consuming, now that I'm logging all my food. I've never counted a calorie in my life and I see that most days so far I'm consuming nearly 3000, which sounds like a lot! In my defense I'm quite active.

Since I started logging I can see that I'm mostly staying in the light green zone. With better organisation I think 70+ would be realistic, but with Christmas approaching inevitably things will slide for a while.

alloutofcareunits · 11/12/2023 18:26

@SkatieKatie welcome! I'm finding the scores really interesting, definitely stopped me having a rum and coke last night as my daily score was 78 and I didn't want to go below the 75 goal 😂. Does anyone know if you can add exercise in? The program talks about the impact of exercise on blood sugar etc but I can't see how I can add it into my diary, surely this would have a positive impact on daily scores?

Welcome all. Agree on wanting to keep your score high - I'm on 72 for the day despite a bad work lunch out. I've filled up on beans and vegetables to get it back into the green but am feeling very full and a little windy! 😁

TerribleWoman · 11/12/2023 21:23

I am on 78 for the day. I have had a kebab for tea - chicken and lamb chunks, meat only, with Arabic salad and baba ganoush. It was lovely.

For lunch I had a home made chicken and winter veg soup, with celeriac, carrot, mushroom and Brussels sprouts. Very nice and a portion left for tomorrow. Served with 90 sec keto bread, toasted.

Only needed 1 snack - 3 strawberries and two chocolate brazils. I just don't get as hungry or have the huge crashes where I could barely stay awake. Love it!

EdgarsTale · 11/12/2023 21:50

I’ve lost 2lb in my first week. I need to be careful with nuts though, as it says I can eat them freely, but calorie wise they’re not great at all.

follygirl · 12/12/2023 07:49

My kit is apparently on its way with DPD. I only bought it last week and assumed it would come in the New Year.
Can I delay starting it or do I have to do it straightaway?

Incogg · 12/12/2023 08:02

ive had a message in the app regarding Zoe’s Christmas closing. I’m fairly certain they suggested waiting to the New Year if you haven’t started yet.

follygirl · 12/12/2023 09:13

Thanks @Incogg

Looking forward to starting it in the New Year although dreading the pin prick test as I'm pathetic about blood.

Incogg · 12/12/2023 13:28

I was a bit windy about it too to be honest. But it’s the last thing you need to do before you can eat and drink properly, so I bribed myself with food and drink.

Vanquishedagain · 12/12/2023 19:36

Results are in and overall looking pretty good. I already eat a moderately healthy diet (but with occasional binge) so curious to see how much, if any, weight I might lose even though that was never my primary goal with the programme

Anyone starting Zoe in November?
