40s, lots to lose: couch to 5K!

Anyone up for joining me? I’m turning 44 next week, have piled on weight in last few years and have at least 3 stone to lose but up to 5 stone would be best. Eating out of control and so is my lack of exercise-motivation. I have not run for twenty years, just walked the dog to keep fit.

I’ve bought myself some trainers, a good sports bra for my humongous boobs and a bright jacket for these dark nights, but would love to slowly build up to being able to run even a mile!!

Anyone with success stories to share?

Good luck! You can do it 👍🏻

I have recently completed couch to 5k and I am now on couch to 10K.
I couldn't run at all previously but if you stick with it, you'll be there.

You can do it! If you need to repeat a week, that's fine/normal.

Do NOT worry about how fast you are.

Definitely do Parkrun!!

I'm not a natural runner at all and have a foot disability but I went from couch to 5k to running 10ks, half marathons and ultra marathons. I'm slow but I don't care.

Look up strength training for runners, to avoid injuries.

Enjoy!!

I’m with you. I’m 50s, at least 2 stone to loose, and incredibly unfit. Did Day 1 Week 1 of the NHS app today, but couldn’t manage it and mostly walked. It’s a bit depressing, and I will try again, but feeling disheartened.

Honestly, stick with the plan.
I ran 8km today without stopping 😊
I almost couldn't complete week one either when I started!

How long ago did you start? And how long did it take before you could manage more than a minute or two? I thought I would never breath normally again!
