Is 5st in 12months achievable?

Just that really. I need to lose weight for health reasons (high bp) also have plans for a year's time.

Is 5 stone weightloss achievable in this time frame? Need to lose more (6-7 stone) but I know that would be too much to do in a year.

Yes it is, but when I did it I had to be very disciplined about what I ate/drank. I'm disabled so exercise was only a small part. And after I'd got through the occasion I was dieting towards I've put half of it back on and am currently trying to lose again.

Not sure that I'm ready to never eat cheese and bread or drink wine ever again!

Hundredthmillionthdiet · 18/09/2023 19:36

Did you follow any particular plan ? Calorie counting is what im doing. In such a fussy eater, which doesn't help. I found as I've got older, it's even harder to lose weight 😕

I would say yes, achievable. Probably have to have a proper plan. I've lost 4 stone since April - I'd really like to lose another 4 by next April! I've done the Fast 800 - not for the faint hearted but I kind of thought I needed some motivation and hard fast rules to follow.

Good luck OP. There's a lose 2 stone by Christmas around atm you could join that and go from there.

comedownwithme · 18/09/2023 19:41

It is but 3.5 - 4 is more realistic if you want to sustain the loss. Around 1lb a week.

There are plenty ways to lose more in the time frame but the majority of them will leave you struggling or failing long term.

Heyhoherewegoagain · 18/09/2023 19:43

Yes it is…I did it once with SW in 7months…I put it all again (and more) when life went tits up because I’d not dealt with my issues which led me to overeat

Yes but it will be fucking hard!

The way I work it out is 5 stone is 70lb. For each lb loss, you need to have a 3500 calorie deficit. That's 245,000 calorie deficit total. Divided by 365 days that's 671 calorie deficit a day. A typical diet recommends 500 a day so you're falling into unhealthy territory.

BeMoreBarbie · 18/09/2023 19:58

Fast 800 is 800 calories a day I think. Not for the faint hearted is an understatement.

I have 5 stone to lose if you want a companion.

Dillydollydingdong · 18/09/2023 20:03

Ten years ago, I did Slimming World and lost 4 st over 18 months. I've put 1st back on but I don't think that's too bad.

chalkyc2 · 18/09/2023 20:05

Yep - in theory 8-900 calories a day for up to 12 weeks max. Then there are intermediate plans to get you to your goal weight. I have to admit to having more in the first 12 weeks as I couldn't give up my evening cup of tea and morning ice latte. But it seems to be going ok. The idea is you fill up on protein and veg and eat little/no sugar and complex carbs. If you Google it you will see loads on it.

It remains to be seen if I can lose all I need AND keep it off. Fingers crossed!

I lost 5 stone in one year for a wedding. I never gained the whole 5 stone back, at least 3-4 stone though and I’ve lost 2 stone in 4 months this time now I am a bit stuck and plateaued. One more stone I am aiming for hope by the end of the year

Cleethorpes · 21/09/2023 18:26

I've lost almost 5 stone since 1st Jan, using intermittent fasting and lots of exercise. Yes, it's absolutely possible. I did keto, I don't know if I'd been able to lose that amount on non keto. Good luck!!

squashi · 21/09/2023 18:33

Yes I lost 5-6 stpne in about that time. Big reductions in carbs and portion sizes, no sugary snacks, not drinking and lots of exercise. I'm on t2 diabetes medication as well though, which may have helped.

If you don't mind me asking, did you get a lot of loose skin ? I know losing weight is best but I do worry about the amount of loose skin. I have a lot of stretch marks 😞

squashi · 22/09/2023 15:49

@Hundredthmillionthdiet I don't mind you asking! My loose skin isn't too bad thankfully, possibly because I do quite a lot of exercise. There's a bit of sag here and there of course, but it still looks better than it did before and I'm in my 50s, so not expecting to be the body beautiful!

RabbitsRock · 22/09/2023 15:52

I need to lose 5.5 stone - I don’t overeat ( in fact I’m a bit of a lightweight!) but my downfall is wine. Plus I’ve had a lot of physical problems since the end of 2020 & have hardly exercised.

PNDshame · 22/09/2023 21:11

I am on a mission to lose 5 stone too - already 10 lbs down. A year would be great

I'm doing low carb. I lost 3 stone on it previously

Well done ! Im calorie counting and trying to cut out the junk. My issue is remaining focused . If I have a fuckit moment, I find it hard to reign it in :(

I would love to know exactly what you eat PNDshame .

Funkysunnyday3 · 24/11/2023 07:19

I became a type 2 diabetic last December. My sister died from it so I know the importance of eating sugar free diet. I don't have sugar and I watch the amount of sugar that is in everyday foods like bread/sauces etc. Since last December I have lost 5.4 stone... so it is very achievable with good clean eating. But this also depends on how much you have to lose. You don't want you body to eat muscle to compensate for lack of nutrition which is what happens when you don't have enough fat to burn.
