2 Stones off by Christmas- a thread for those with quite a lot to lose.

RedDoughnut · 17/09/2023 08:51

2 stones is a drop in the ocean but there are 14 weeks to Christmas and so at 2lbs a week a 2 stone loss is achievable. Maybe a little bit more if you have lots to lose like me. ( 5 stones).

I'm going to weigh in on Monday and possibly check my measurements if I can find a tape measure!

I'd welcome some company form anyone who wants to have some accountability and a place to keep track of their weekly / daily food intake or losses.

I'm now off to have a small and healthy breakfast.

good morning everyone! i had a good day today - well, not good for cooking, as i just had ready made food, but good for calories, im pretty sure i kept within my limit. hoping for more of the same today, just so busy with work atm that i cant even seem to think about cooking. although we are getting our shopping in today so ill make an effort.

also thinking about buying some christmas treats already but worried about having them in the house. normally i open one or two early and start snacking! ill have to stash them somewhere hard to get to this time. 😆

TrialbySourdough · 19/10/2023 09:51

It's almost 6 weeks since I started watching what I eat - and joined this thread - and my trousers in the size down now fit. Still a long way to go, but it's really encouraging.

I have found myself slipping on portion size over the last week, so I do need to be more strict on that. My willpower needs a rev!

jeomeollibyeoldul · 19/10/2023 09:56

sorry by today i meant *yesterday - clearly im still a bit asleep!

Bananas1350 · 19/10/2023 10:38

@TrialbySourdough i weigh everything. People don’t realise how much things actually are. As an example 100g of new potatoes is actually just three potatoes. People are always shocked when I tell them that.
Even when I have finished this diet next year. I will weigh and check the calories of everything

RedDoughnut · 19/10/2023 14:39

@Bananas1350 I think most people have no clue on portion sizes.
Pasta is a good example in our house,

I think 75g is the standard portion. We eat about double that!

I'm going to try not to slip back to my old ways too. I have wasted too much time thinking about weight

Hi - going to join

SW - 12 stone 7

CW - 12 stone

TW - 8.5 stone

Been doing this since the beginning of September - eating healthily and exercising four times a week

Cannot get to the mythical 11 stone 13 and losing hope...

Does anyone else put on weight during their period? That is what I am clinging on to this week as to why I haven't lost a pound!!

Welcome!

Yes my weight absolutely fluctuates with my cycle, mine is usually highest around now, a few days before my period and I can actually feel the water retention in my boobs because they feel uncomfortable.

Keep on going, I do find this thread and its tangible mini goal really helps keep me focused.

Foxymoxy68 · 20/10/2023 11:21

Two weeks in and I've lost 5 pounds-just the 20 to go! 🤣
What's really working for me is intermittent fasting (eating between 12 and 7pm) and high protein, low carb. Also, loads of water especially first thing in the morning.
Keep going everyone!

ILikeItHere · 20/10/2023 14:16

Hi, may I join you? I have 2 stones to lose by Christmas as well. Today is my first day. I am doing SlimFast as this is what worked for me couple of years ago. This time there is more to shed but hopefully will do the trick. I aim to do 30 minutes of stationary bike every day in addition. I am at my record weight and really need some company so will be following this thread with interest.

jeomeollibyeoldul · 20/10/2023 17:59

hey everyone, hope you are all doing well and welcome @ILikeItHere !

i managed to cook yesterday which is a big win, i always eat less calories and feel fuller and better when im eating healthy homecooked food. going to try again tomorrow, will make my curry this time.

still plodding along doing fairly well and looking forward to the cake im planning on having for my birthday in november 😆seriously, every time i have a craving i just think of the cake and then eat an apple instead. small wins...

still about 2 months until christmas so time to shed a few more pounds. im already feeling much more like myself. i will weigh at christmas and see how much i have actually lost. looking forward to it!

ILikeItHere · 20/10/2023 20:01

Thank you. It is rather quiet here today. I just did my 30 minutes of cycling. Food wise all to plan, was not too hungry. My first day is almost over.
Hopefully will hear more from you all tomorrow!

Morning all. Happy weekend! I've had a terrible few days and have been eating far too many carbs and calories. [For me anyway.] I've been very stressed courtesy of my "stately homes" mother who is 91. It's a long story and I'm not sure how I'm going to deal with this BUT I'm not letting her sabotage this goal of mine SO back on it from now! In view of everything I'm expecting a gain this week. Humph. Hope everyone's doing O.K. I've got a busy weekend ahead as DD4 is moving and we'll also be having a go at clearing some of the junk out our garage-particularly the multiple Christmas trees and decs that live out there in the rafters. Those are my weekend plans anyway. Will report back on weigh day Monday.

Bananas1350 · 21/10/2023 07:07

I have lost another pound.

sw - 13st 1

cw- 11st 12

tw - 8st 8

happy with that.

ILikeItHere · 21/10/2023 11:01

My weigh day was meant to be Fri but I could not resist this morning. 2 pounds less! I drank a lot, mainly coffee but also herbal and fruit teas as I think drinking something warm works better for me. I know first week is usually the most effective but am really motivated to keep it up.

jeomeollibyeoldul · 21/10/2023 11:03

congratulations losers, brilliant news!
sorry to hear about your difficult situation @recklessgran , you sound like you are putting your best foot forwards and i hope things get better for you soon. carbs arent evil and dont beat yourself up about eating them!

im cooking again today, really looking forward to it as im trying a new recipe. i probably sound obsessed with cooking to you all but actually im terrible at it and really have to motivate myself to do it and i get quite discouraged if the results dont come out very well. ive been having success lately and its been helping with my weight loss efforts so trying to keep it going.

i really agree with @shearwater 's approach and just reading her posts gives me motivation!

Tuesday is my "official" weigh day, but I'm logging it today because I have finally hit a 1 stone loss! No doubt it will be showing higher on Tuesday but I'm taking today as a win. Had originally promised myself a treat day when I lose a stone, but now too motivated to go off plan.

Now to aim for 14 something....

beeswaxinc · 21/10/2023 13:22

Welcome to the newcomers! Wishing you every success and it's great to adjust the goals to something more realistic at this point 😊

I have a NSV today; my partner keeps coming up to me and saying "you're losing weight I can see it already". Which is so motivating, I'm all aflutter!

Another NSV; it was my birthday on Thursday, I didn't eat quite within my deficit limit but was within maintenance and really enjoyed the food I ate without going crazy. To put that in context, my birthdays are usually big Starbucks in the morning, big restaurant meal or takeway in the evening, plus lots of chocolate and treats and frankly the day revolves around "celebratory" food. I also went for a lovely autumny walk around my plans for the day and just felt so much better.

I really truly felt I was not missing out by not over indulging and to be perfectly honest, that is a very new feeling for me. It usually comes down to a battle between weight loss vs yummy food for me and yummy food/old habits win out constantly.. Now starting to feel it's not even a battle and I feel more confident that I have before that I can see this through.

Weigh in tomorrow though I will be kind to myself due to where I am in my cycle. Good luck everyone, keep going!!

Bananas1350 · 22/10/2023 09:38

Every Sunday I try on the trousers I have for the next size down. Managed to get into three of them today. So three extra pairs of trousers to use. Very happy.

beeswaxinc · 22/10/2023 11:06

@Bananas1350 Congratulations!! I love that way of measuring success because it’s not just relying on the number on the scale.

Speaking of which; mildly disappointed today; scales are showing 1lb down.

It was my birthday this week though and I am premenstrual, so the fact that it’s in a downward direction at all is a victory!

Big congratulations sunshinelove, a stone is such a great milestone, think in a couple of lbs you’ll be 14 stone something!

ILikeItHere · 22/10/2023 11:27

Morning, I could not resist and checked the scales. 1 lb less woohoo! I did my 30 minutes bike last night. As a snack had a spoon of almond butter to boost protein and good fat intake. Helped me manage between meals. Also started adding flaxseed as an extra fibre.
Glad to hear about everyone's success! Let's keep it up.

RedDoughnut · 22/10/2023 12:47

I haven't been able to weigh this week as I'm currently on holiday
I am not over indulging while we are away but I'm not being greedy!

I have been doing some research on what healthy snacks I could have, maybe someone will find it useful. I tried to keep them in 100 kcal range. 1 tsp almond butter has only 35 kcal and I could not eat more than 2 at a time, very filling. 30 g dried mango but that is mainly carbs / sugars so not too often. 1 Babybel with 8 olives. 100 g drained tuna in spring water, keeps me full for quite some time. 1 piece of smoked mackarel, not my favourite though. 10 halves of pecan nuts as these have few carbs in them compared to cashews for example. I was really surprised how little it is volume wise compared to what I usually snack on! 1 boiled egg with a pinch of salt. And last on my list is 100 g of Greek yoghurt. That should do me for a while and is varied enough not to get boring quickly. You could add some fresh fruit to the list but personally I want to stay low sugar as SF shakes have enough of that.
Anyone has other ideas? I will try to limit snacking but good to know what to nibble on in a pinch.

ILikeItHere · 22/10/2023 17:01

Sorry, just realised mackarel is 200 kcal so more like one of milkshakes.
