Does your waist measurement fluctuate?

I'm trying to lose a little weight, but I'm not weighing myself at the moment, I'm more focussed on my measurements. I have measured my waist most days this week, at different times, and I'm getting a variation of about an inch each time. I'm not sure if it's me measuring wrong (never quite sure how to do waist) or if it's like weight where you should stick to the same time each day? I am a bit prone to bloating atm so not sure if that isn't helping.

At your side, you find the top of your hip bone and the bottom of your lowest rib and take a measurement halfway between the two.

My waist would be a lot different at the end of the night compared to the morning because of eating. I’d stick to measuring around the same time for comparison, probably before eating because you bloat differently depending on certain foods eaten. I’d probably only measure once a week though.
