am in a similar position...need to lose half a stone by mid april for a wedd anniversary hol. Have tried lo carb in the past and it did work. I run twice a week but at the moment it's not making me lose weight cause I'm not doing lo carb.
What are you having for dinner pukkapatch?

Hello, I am low carbing as of yesterday. Going on hols over Easter break, need to lose about 9lbs so I can bare my bod on the beach!
I did it once before and lost loads of weight, too much actually.
Have to say, I wasn't my usual self at he gym this am and found it a slog. But am hoping the energy side of things will improve..

SugarBird · 11/03/2008 21:20

If you keep at it you should lose the weight and have loads of energy to enjoy your holidays - great incentive not to stray into carb-land.

If you feel the need for bread-like food, try these - delicious with butter! They have helped me stay on the low-carb straight and narrow since Jan.

OK - I started on Monday. This am I weighed myself and had lost 4.5 pounds! Now I know it's probably water, but how can that be when I'm drinking gallons of it? Don't really understand that.
Anyway, I love low-carbing as a quick fix. I have just bought some keto-stix for added motivation.
Also, did 1.5 hours at the gym today and felt fine.
How are you other ladies getting on?

SugarBird · 12/03/2008 19:37

Wow that's a lot! I think drinking loads of water is a detox and keeping well hydrated prevents your body from wanting to retain water so you lose all that excess water weight that you've been storing. I'm impressed with the 1.5 hours at the gym!

I've lost around 16lbs since I started and have plenty to eat - as much meat, fish, eggs and veggies as I want and some fruit every day. Plus nuts, seeds, some cheese and cream, and gluten-free cereal every morning. My weight loss has slowed down but as it's a healthy way to eat long-term I don't mind if the last half stone takes a while to come off.

Am also going to the gym regularly (well not as regularly as I should as I've just started a new job but I'm trying for a couple of times a week...)

I've never used ketostix, just guessed that I was in ketosis. Are they expensive?

Am back on low carb too it is the only thingh that works for me and I manage to have 2 glasses of wine a week too and it doesn't affect it.inspire me with new ideas that don't involve eggs!Had chicken breast with pancetta and melted cheese for dinner with a huge green salad V virtuous!Off to glug more water!

SugarBird · 12/03/2008 20:46

Great, isn't it! I've just had a glass of wine with my dinner - beef and veggies with cauliflower mash (yummy with some cream cheese mixed in). Delicious. Must refill the water bottle - after I've finished my decaff with cream, that is...

Fried haloumi cheese and/or crispy bacon on green salad with avocado is lovely, especially with real mayo. The website I recommended above has loads of good recipes, including low-carb chocolate brownie made with ground almonds instead of flour.

SugarBird - congrats on your weight loss, that's great. What fruit do you eat? I'm thinking about having some as it feels weird not to eat any at all.
I had 2 glasses of wine last night - it had been a long day and this am I had lost another 1.5 lbs!
Ketostix are about £5 for 50.

The lowest carb fruits are berries and that's mostly what I eat. I buy strawberries fresh and keep raspberries and forest fruits in the freezer (Tesco do them with no added sugar). A handful of those with some cream is delish - apparently having them with fat helps your body cope with the natural sugars so you don't have a sugar rush, followed by cravings. I also have plums, sometimes a couple a day, or clementines. Grapefruit and cherries are fairly low-carb as well. Enjoy!
