I’m getting a gastric sleeve on 6th November just wondering if anyone else was waiting for the op

I’ve had issues with eating since I was 3 (thanks mum) I’ve had periods of my life where I’ve been a 24 and x months later a 10 I’ve done xenical which was very successful but the weight now seems to be very slow in coming off
I’ve also went down the saxenda route yes it worked but I put it back on and made me so sick so here I am

I was having this conversation last week with some friends.

Everyone we know who's had it, haven't ended up putting the weight back on after a couple of years, and are now the weirdest shape, and are more unhappy than before.

Your issues are psychological and gastric sleeve won't fix them. If you want to eat you'll eat, and stretch the sleeve.

Hi @SuffolkUnicorn - I had the sleeve in January and it's the best thing I ever did. I've lost almost 8 stone and my BMI has gone from 47 to 28 so far and still losing weight. People are so negative about sleeve surgery (see post above!) but I genuinely couldn't recommend it enough. I no longer spend most of my day thinking about food, I just eat for fuel.

I’ve had a sleeve too and lost 8 stone. I don’t regret it in the slightest. I’ve got my life back and my physical and mental health are so much better.

I can eat fairly normally, I just can’t pig out (which is what I wanted). I am happy with my body, skin doesn’t sag, look great in clothes!

I had a bypass as I’ve no self discipline at all and was told I’d be more at risk of stretching my stomach again with a sleeve and would be at risk of putting weight back on . I’ve lost 10 and a half stone and I’ve no regrets yeah I’ve a bit of loose skin here and there and I’m on loads of vits. I’m 6 years down the line and it’s the best thing I did

I had sleeve surgery 11th Nov 2022, I was 110.5kg and my dietitian and surgeons goal weight for me was 65kg, Since the start of August 2023 (9 months) my weight has been between 62kg-63kg. My life has changed. My depression is now mild (with low medication) my menopause symptoms have decreased (54 yrs old) my sleep apnea is no longer, my energy, health and flexibility are the best they've been since I was healthy and happy in my 20's. No more aching ankles and knees. The first 3-4 months after surgery were very hard, as in I couldn't eat hardly anything (no exaggeration) and was nearly always nauseated. BUT over time, and healing) I worked out what worked for me, how much, how often and best choices. Best decision I ever made. If you have any questions or queries please message me. I would love to pass on and share my joy 😘

I was sleeved on May16th this year and have nearly lost 4 stone. Hardest thing I've done but also best thing I've done. I wish I'd had it done years ago. I have another 2 stone to lose. I'm feeling so much better in myself and am more active now due to the lost weight. Really has changed my life. I did get it done in Turkey as I couldn't afford the UK costs. No regrets here.

I had my sleeve done in April 22 I lost 30 kilos which is about half my excess weight. The surgery is considered successful but I was still obese. I have lots of follow up with my weight loss team and have started Ozempic. I still work with the dietitian.

My plan is too get to goal weight around 70-75. Then join a weight neutral healthy eating program for 12 months to help me cement my new eating habits as I wean off the Ozempic.

The sleeve has been a brilliant tool for weightloss it allowed me to move my body more and make changes to eating.
Good luck with yours.
