@thenewaveragebear1983 congratulations on 84 days no alcohol, huge achievement. Wish I could do better on this front. Had a very wine sodden weekend, which led to cheese and crackers at midnight. Gained this week surprise surprise. Having a strict couple of days and try to get back on it. Back on cross trainer. Steak and salad for dinner. I need to be more consistent.

TalkToTheHand123 · 25/03/2024 17:20

Was out drinking last night but it shouldn't take me too off track. Been to gym this afternoon. Somehow managed the motivation.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 25/03/2024 20:54

Can I join? I’m not sure if diets work or not. In theory they should

thenewaveragebear1983 · 25/03/2024 21:56

I had a good day today, a really busy day at work, I did a workout this morning and walked the dog twice. I sat and watched dh and the dc eat a big piece of sticky toffee pudding and Ben and Jerry ice cream 😢

food all plannned for tomorrow, overnight oats prepped, lunch prepped for my office day. There’s a portion left of a really nice lentil dhal with lamb I made for dinner tonight and I’m looking forward to that again, it was really tasty.

and I cannot wait until 4.30 tomorrow when I skip out of the office for 8 glorious days off work! I’m so ready for a break.

@Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain welcome to our chat, we’re all doing various different plans and the more the merrier.

Thank you - I am on another thread here but it seems like it's mostly no snacks!

And I did Weight Watchers for a year last year, I did manage to lose almost a stone from January to Easter last year but then stalled and found the group very cliquey so I left.

My big downfall is snacking and eating like I did in my younger years, which is whatever I liked. I'm also 52 and on HRT. I get into fads with exercising, so either I do it and go all out, or as of recently, I like doing long walks but have stopped most other kinds of exercise.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 26/03/2024 06:56

@Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain snacks are my big downfall too. I do slimming world and the capacity to eat ‘free’ snacks is not doing me any good really, I checked my calories over a couple of days and oh my, it was way too high for any weight loss really. So now I’m doing a very complicated combination of slimming world for all my meals but weighing everything and calorie counting it for a couple of weeks, to reset my idea of ‘normal portions’ and it’s quite enlightening. I do quite a lot of exercise, walking and running, but the last few months I have been doing a simple at home workout twice week as well, and it’s that that has made the most difference in the shortest time for me. I can visibly see the changes in my shape now, which considering it’s not lifting super heavy weights at a gym, I’m very surprised about. As with all these things, it’s consistent effort that gets results and once my programme is done (it’s a 70 days thing from the guy who runs a local gym) I think I’m going to invest in some better home equipment.

What doesn't help me (and did help with Weightwatchers), is that on WW after the initial larger loss, it then started to stall a bit, so I'd be eating sugar free jellies, fruit, fat free yogurt as snacks and I even had water instead of skimmed milk in my porridge.

In fact when I did lose almost a stone I was still eating mini rose gold Galaxy eggs!

Sedgwick · 26/03/2024 12:17

@Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain welcome, I am older than you (56 not on hrt) and am 2 lbs shy off a 2 stone loss since August last year. I am doing Mediterranean style diet and generally just have dinner at 6 pm, low carb (the odd potato), lots and lots of vegetables and fish/meat. My downfall is wine which always leads to cheese and crackers. Exercise is 35 mins on a cross trainer 5 days a week. I think everyone on this thread is doing a different diet but it’s just what works for you.

Bought some English asparagus and going to have this tonight with 2 brill fillets, leeks, courgettes and cavelo nero. Expensive meal but going to try and do 4 weeks without wine again, so saving money there.

Ooh thanks. This sounds like something I could follow (the Mediterranean diet).

I actually had a small serving of gnocchi (spinach and pesto?) last night with steamed spinach and mushrooms in butter with parmesan. It was nice but not that filling (the gnocchi was a bit small).

I need to get back on exercise. I used to run but plantar fasciitis has put paid to that.

My local sports centre has squash, wonder how easy that is?

I'm lucky - I have drink in the house but don't tend to drink it alone, very occasionally I might but never been into wine o'clock. That's only when I'm out.

Sedgwick · 26/03/2024 13:12

@Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain I don’t know much about plantar fasciitis but both my kids (young adults) play squash and it is fast and high impact, I suspect it would exacerbate pf. Just my opinion though, best to check with your Dr.

Wine o clock that awful cliche does sadly apply to me, no interest in chocolate/biscuits/cake but white wine is a weakness.

It probably would, the squash, you're right.

I'm lucky, just never been into the wine o'clock thing. Probably because my stepdad and then grandad would put away (separate houses!) the best part of a bottle of wine between them away in a night.

I do like a G&T after work when I'm at work, but again, can do without it.

My main thing I've got into recently are:

Activia prune yogurts
Protein bars

When you add up the calories in that and offset it against your daily ones then of course you lose.

TalkToTheHand123 · 26/03/2024 14:57

@Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain what kind of diet are we talking about?

I'm finding having home made soup as bulk of my daily food and realising it is actually quite nice to taste and all the benefits helps.

If I fall off the wagon with frozen food, I try make sure I have plenty veg with it to make me feel fuller.

I've managed to cut out little unnecessary bad habits gradually which seems to start paying off.

I'm getting back into my relaxation also and this seems to speed up my metabolism with little effort.

I have no idea at the moment.

I have porridge with blueberries first thing.

But today so far have had a Nature Valley protein berries and chocolate bar and a Nature Valley Oats and Dark Chocolate bar plus a Waitrose St Clements Hot Cross Bun with Flora Pro Active.

Lunch was 1 tub of lentil dhal soup and 1 slice with Pro Active pumpernickel bread plus cucumber crudites.

My relaxation seems to have gone to pot lately, maybe I should try yoga again.

Hi everyone

Sorry I didn't post yesterday as I intended but I was really busy, not a valid excuse I know.

@Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain welcome, lovely to have a new member of our little group. I too can easily do without wine but I can eat mountains of chocolate, cake, biscuits (anything sweet) and this is my downfall. Once I get the taste I can just keep eating it and never get the sickly feeling other people speak of. I've had a rotten year so far so am being easy on myself atm.

So everyone, my maintaining plan isn't working and I seem to be gaining 1 lb to 1.5 lbs per week! I'm knuckling down now because this can't go on. Yesterday went very well foodwise and I kept busy.

@TalkToTheHand123 I'm back on the parsnip soup with added broccoli at lunch, it does seem to keep me on track in the day.

As always evenings are my problem time so after my evening meal I'm not allowing myself anything until about 8.30pm and then I'm going to bed early to stop the continual bingeing I am so good at.

@thenewaveragebear1983 I hope you enjoy your long break from work and you sound to have a good plan but do have some "me" time too.

@Theredjellybean I hope you are managing to cope, you are in my thoughts constantly.

I am going to start trying to be better, I don't feel good about my body atm. I need to look better than this for the summer. I'm also going to post here more often for accountability.

Easter is very close, my favourite holiday (loved much more than Christmas). I have quite a few eggs but not nearly as many as last year and since we have two meals out over Easter (just basic cafe meals but really lovely), I'm going to refrain from eating my eggs until the end of April (which is when I believe Easter should be celebrated).

Have a good day everyone (well what's left of the day) and as I always say, keep doing your best.

Thanks for replying @poorpaws .

I am going to try (she says!) exercising a bit every other day. And restricting things. I've been far too bad recently swapping Pop Chips for proper crisps.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 26/03/2024 18:06

I’m freeeeeeeee!!! Hurrah! 🙌

annoyed with myself because my boss gave me an Easter egg today and I got in from work and I ate the whole egg in one go standing in my kitchen 🤦‍♀️ it wasn’t even nice after the first few pieces. 150g of chocolate! So…. That’s today pretty much written off. If not the whole week.

still, I feel a bit ‘decompressed’ now, which I probably needed after finishing work. I will try to pull it back tomorrow. I really don’t want a full spiral out of control. My plan tomorrow is to do loads of little jobs that have been bugging me and need doing. I’ve booked a lunchtime gym class which I never usually get time to do, and of course I will walk the pup and get the steps in.

TalkToTheHand123 · 26/03/2024 19:21

Awww forgot about Easter eggs somehow. Haven't had any proper chocolate for a while. Could be a little stuggle to get through this. Will have to keep strong and keep reminding myself reasons to refrain.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 26/03/2024 19:51

@TalkToTheHand123 yes it’s a tricky time of year isn’t it? I buy myself an Easter egg, and always just enjoy it, but I don’t really get involved with any other hot cross buns or other Easter themed goodies. Todays gift threw me a curve ball I wasn’t expecting, it wasn’t even a nice egg (wasn’t an egg at all, it was an Aldi golden retriever which was caramel flavoured white chocolate 🤮) but hey. One day didn’t undo all my hard work and to be honest, I’ve had a tricky week since weigh in on Thursday - gone way over on syns and calories most days (I think trying to track both is causing me some brain ache) and I really hope I’ll find it easier now I’m off work. We have no plans over the BH weekend, so the only thing in my way is ME!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 27/03/2024 20:31

I kept to really low calories today and low carb to try to offset my choc fest yesterday. I did ok actually, ending the day on 1000 cals. That’s super low for me. It’s weigh in tomorrow and I’ll be glad if I break even to be honest after the week I’ve had. I did hope for a loss, 2lbs would get me my stone award, but I think that’s unrealistic. I’m taking my boys to the cinema tomorrow so I’ll have my breakfast, but then probably nothing til I weigh in because before cinema will be too early and after will be too late.

there’s a fair chance I will have a drink this weekend. I just fancy one. I’ve done nearly 3 months and I don’t want to make it a thing that I can’t ever have a drink, so I am considering it, just a glass or two of Prosecco tomorrow when dh finishes work for the long weekend.

poorpaws · 28/03/2024 10:33

@thenewaveragebear1983 I would have done exactly the same with the chocolate dog egg. DP has bought me eggs and I know my daughter will be here with one (at least) tomorrow and it is the beginning of my favourite part of the year, and I've had a rotten year ... the excuses are endless. So yes I'll probably give in the temptation and I've already started on the hot cross buns 🙈. Good luck with today's weigh-in and enjoy a glass of wine, it's Easter.

It's not going too well here but I've done worse in the past. I'm cutting down on a few things but the weather is making me run to comfort food.

We got caught in the most horrendously long and powerful hail storm yesterday and one of my dog was frightened. It's very high winds and rain today so we're not going out (this is very rare but the dogs won't even go out to wee this morning).

I'm having a rare very lazy day which so far I'm loving. DP is staying at home so I've got a whole day to myself (although I think he's texted 30 times this morning 😁).

I hope you are all doing well. I've got some new jeans arriving tomorrow so I'm crossing my fingers that they'll fit. The last six or seven pairs I've bought either in-store or online have had to go back for different reasons so I'm really needing these ones to be right.

Have a good day everyone.

OP posts:
Sedgwick · 28/03/2024 11:12

Good luck with the jeans try on @poorpaws. Been to the fishmongers and greengrocers and feel pretty set for the long weekend. Pouring rain here but I do not mind it. When I woke up this morning I thought it’s weigh in day for @thenewaveragebear1983 😂, possibly over invested in this thread.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 28/03/2024 11:21

thenewaveragebear1983 · 28/03/2024 15:22

@poorpaws aaarrgggghhh jeans shopping is the worst!! The pair I have at the moment that I get the most compliments on are a £12 pair from primark, they are high waisted bootcut, a little bit of give but actually very slimming and every single time I wear them someone asks where they are from.

poorpaws · 28/03/2024 16:38

The jeans arrived one day early and there has been a lot of deliberation but I'm keeping them. They are very soft, too big, too long and too wide 😁 but for dog walking, tucked in wellies, they'll do because I'm desperate and they are comfy.

I've just ordered the same pair in a size down which is quite ridiculous because I am most definitely not a size 12 (I wish) but they are obviously too big in a size 14 (which will be ok in winter) but I'm curious to see if the smaller ones will be ok for summer.

Jeans shopping for me is an absolute nightmare. Short length are too long, extra short (when you can get them) are too short. I have wasted such a lot of money in the last 1-2 years, I bet if I check I'll have bought at least 6, maybe 8 pairs, I can't wear <sigh>.

Awaiting delivery next week with fingers crossed.

I've enjoyed my lazy day and so far my eating hasn't been too bad, although we all know it's the evening grazing I struggle with.
