Oh and 7/7 started on 12 February for those who were unsure.

Lovely to see you back @poorpaws

poorpaws · 10/03/2024 13:46

@endlesswashing
Thank you. I was a little nervous because I didn't want to bring the mood of the thread down but although I'm not back to normal (whatever that is in my life) I want to really improve my health now.

Happy Mothers Day everyone, I think we are all mothers but if you aren't, Happy Day to you.

@poorpaws ! You came back! 🥳 🎉 🎈
I agree about the summer being “my time” and it’s occasionally does feel like there’s a little flicker of it brewing away, almost in sight. I can’t wait for this long, wet, muddy winter to bugger right off. ☀️ ☀️ ☀️

poorpaws · 10/03/2024 14:40

@thenewaveragebear1983 yes I did, I never intended to be gone for long! I'm hoping never to leave again 🤞🏻

How are you? I think I've got a lot of catching up to do.

OP posts:
Sedgwick · 10/03/2024 14:58

Hi everyone and please don’t worry about bringing mood down on thread @poorpaws, if you are struggling we all understand, you have had a tough start to the year. Fingers crossed things improve for you.

I’ve been out for Sunday lunch, relaxed my rules and ate lots of hearty food and had a glass of English sparkling. It was a really fun lunch. Now having a cat nap!

poorpaws · 10/03/2024 15:04

@Sedgwick thank you.

Lovely to hear you've had a good time, we are all allowed days off the diet.

Enjoy the cat nap, we don't get enough of those. It feels really good to eat out occasionally and change the routine, I think we should all do that more often.

Good morning everyone

I've braved the scales, 11st 05, so about the same as I was before my last disappearance. This is the woman who said she would never go back up to 11 sts! Hey ho, life gets in the way sometimes.

I'm going to take it easy but try harder and maybe try my own little 7/7 as there is no way I can catch up with you all.

I hope you are all well and happy and the scales are good to you this week. I'm off to the supermarket soon and I'll try to make good decisions.

Have a happy Monday everyone.

OP posts:
Theredjellybean · 11/03/2024 08:00

Morning all...
Poorpaws you are a wafer thin chocolate mint crisp over 11 stone...a big wee would have that .05 off.
I cannot face scale today as had a tumultuous tumble off the wagon this weekend.
But I'm all penance now and will be making good choices all week.

poorpaws · 11/03/2024 16:01

@Theredjellybean it happens to us all, weekends are very difficult for the majority of us 🤷‍♀️

I've got the wagon rolling again so jump on today and next Monday might be a very different story.

How are you all doing? So far so good here, a healthy eating day so far and a chicken and pineapple healthy stir fry tonight (😇 about time).

OP posts:
Sedgwick · 11/03/2024 16:19

Doing fine here, lunch was a tiny portion of spaghetti with pesto, dinner is salmon, leeks and cavelo nero. Cross trainer most days for 35 mins (3 miles). 9st 13 lbs but still have a large tummy and waist is far too big according to nhs. Another stone to go. Feeling so much better than when I was 11st 7lbs.

poorpaws · 12/03/2024 18:00

@Sedgwick You are doing brilliantly. It's so nice when you've lost a decent amount. Keep going, you've most definitely got this.

I'm doing quite well. Second stir fry of the week tonight. I've buddied up to not eat chocolate for a month 😬. Day 1 yesterday and I'm craving it like mad. If the other girl caves I know I will too but I don't want to be the one to let her down as she is morbidly obese so really does need a diet buddy and a lot of caring.

I hope everyone is having a good week and not finding all this grey weather too difficult ☔️

thenewaveragebear1983 · 12/03/2024 21:28

Well done @Sedgwick. how tall are you? 8.13 is teeny tiny!

how has your day been @poorpaws - you weigh the same as me, I’m bobbing around between 11.0.5 and 10.12.5, it’s annoying when a big meal pushes me back up into the higher stone bracket. I think I’d need to be 10.9 before I’m comfortably in the tens! I’m 5”7’ - how tall are you?

I did have a little gain last week but I did a little hop on to the scales this morning and I was a couple down again, so I am hoping for a bit of a loss on Thursday. I had a good day today, I ate a lot of protein and not many carbs at all, just my oats and a spoonful of orzo with my lunch. I had an ice lolly for 55cals after dinner as a treat. Tuesdays are often a really tricky day for me but I pre-empted my post work crash and had some chicken and skyr yogurt when I got in.

I’m feeling pretty good this week, I did a good workout yesterday, and Tuesday is always my rest day. I am running tomorrow. My boss is on leave this week so I’ll probably take a longer lunch and walk the dog for an hour at lunch. Lots of steps in! my foods been quite basic and uninspiring this week. I need to do a proper list before I shop this week, and plan some new meals that I actually follow up and cook!

Sedgwick · 13/03/2024 10:47

Thanks @poorpaws , I am finally making real progress, I’ve been trying on and off for 6 years. I am putting it down to the worst of my menopause symptoms (including endless periods) finally stopping and massively reducing my white wine habit.

@thenewaveragebear1983 thanks, I am 5ft 5”. BMI works for me as I am small boned. Healthy range is 8st-10st 10lbs. I was 8st 7 lbs or less all my life until I hit 50 (other than pregnancies when I went up to 10st 7lbs). I would love to get my waist down to 30” which is more important to me than getting to 8st 13, it’s whichever happens first I guess. I would also love to get into a smaller bra size. Unlike you I am new to exercise, did C25k recently, sore shin and knee in final week so I have now switched to cross trainer. I am soft all over but really keen to get some muscle.

Chicken stirfry for dinner. Keep going everyone.

poorpaws · 13/03/2024 19:07

Hi everyone

Just a quick check in. It's going well all day for me (as usual) but I am still struggling in the evenings.

I've had the last of my stir fries this week and actually it tasted the best of the three. I usually add oyster sauce, soy sauce, plum sauce, hoisin sauce, sweet chilli and possibly another one or two I can't think of. Tonight I just added the hoisin as I was finding them too salty and I really enjoyed it, although I hate preparing them, anyone else hate that?

@thenewaveragebear1983 sadly I am a lot shorter than you at 5' 4" and I'm tiny boned (very tiny wrists and narrow small shoulders) so mine is all fat! I felt good at 10st 2lbs but I find it very difficult to maintain and gallop very quickly back to 11 sts <sigh>. I am also in the embarrassing position of weighing more than my partner and he eats tons of food <another deep sigh>.

I'm back to joining DP on the dog walks, which I like doing but I can't find the energy to exercise yet, early days of recovery I think so I'm not going to worry.

I hope you are all doing well this week and as I always say, keep trying.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 14/03/2024 06:53

@Sedgwick and @poorpaws thanks for indulging my nosiness! It’s interesting how much difference a few inches and frame makes. I’ve got quite a ‘sturdy’ frame at 5’7 but I do have very skinny wrists and ankles. 10st would be absolutely tiny on me, although in my early 20’s I was a very tiny 9’7 and looking back now I was super skinny. I did live on marlborough lights and coffee though.

it’s weigh in day for me today. I’m really not sure how my week has gone, I have had a fair few days where I haven’t stuck to plan, but on the other hand I feel like I’ve lost a lot of water retention and I am actually feeling pretty slim, especially around my middle. It’s only been 5 days since I last weighed so genuinely don’t know what the result will be. I’d be happy (ish) with a maintain but I really do need to pick up my pace a bit. It’s incredibly sloooooowwww. 🐌

still. Right direction and all that. I did a shopping list last night but I feel so uninspired. The balancing act of sticking to the plan, plus not spending a fortune is crazy, I feel like we spend so much on food! But at least this week I have planned my lunches and evening meals and actually now I just need to stick to my scheduled plan (something I struggle to do consistently which doesn’t help in either the diet or the spending!)

poorpaws · 14/03/2024 08:43

Good morning everyone, I hope you are all well on this dull rainy Thursday.

@thenewaveragebear1983 It's not just height though is it. Age plays an important part in weight loss. In my teens and twenties I was 8 stones, ate everything, although I didn't drive then so walked a lot and I smoked too. In my thirties I had a baby and the day before I gave birth (and I had a very big pregnancy bump) I weighed 11sts, which is what I weigh now 🙈. In my late thirties and forties my weight crept up to 9 sts but I was still well within my BMI and I went to the gym in my thirties and forties so was toned. Now I fear I just can't get the weight off, it just sticks to me like glue.

I also struggle with food and budget. I watch loads of youtube budgeters who live alone and spend £28 up to £40 pw. I spend loads more than that but salad, veg, stir fries, fruit are quite expensive. My dinners are so boring and some days I wonder how I eat them. Stir fries or jacket potatoes with chicken or burger and a ton of salad and repeat! And of course I eat a lot of chocolate snacks which is my biggest downfall.

Have a good day everyone and @thenewaveragebear1983 I hope you have a good weigh-in.

OP posts:
thenewaveragebear1983 · 14/03/2024 13:14

cost of decent food is shocking, I could easily spend £200 a week if I went to a supermarket, instead I do a very careful online shop and can get it to around 150 a week. But that’s every item accounted for, and we always run out (eg by shopping day the fridge is bare, there’s no fruit etc). We are 3 adults and 2 preteen boys. Plus pets I suppose. It’s ludicrous how expensive food has become. It’s easier if everyone eats the same but then I like certain things as my treats, the kids like other stuff, it’s those bits that add up. Depressing isn’t it?

@poorpaws I think age is probably the biggest factor to be honest , the last few years I am the most active I have ever been, I eat better than I ever have ( in terms of processed foods and takeaways etc) and yet my weight loss is super duper slow. 🤷‍♀️

shearwater2 · 14/03/2024 14:31

Yeah we spend about £250 a week now for five adults (two teens but they eat more than me) - some of that non-food/pet food/toiletries though. A big chunk of that is fresh ingredients, though admittedly a lot is also crisps (we have a bit of a crisp problem). I hate to think what it would be if I bought meat from the butcher or farm shop and fish from a fishmongers. Plus the extra costs associated with driving to them, as there are none in the village where I live.

endlesswashing · 14/03/2024 17:41

I'm still plodding away, planning on weighing in tomorrow or Sat am. Keep going everyone!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 14/03/2024 19:39

I lost half a pound! I’m pleased with that as I haven’t really had a great 2 weeks (quite a few ‘off piste’ days) and it’s very very unusual for me to lose more than I expect so I’m taking that and running with it!

tired tonight- house is full of throats and snot and germs and I’m fighting it off but it’s exhausting. On my lunch break today I set an alarm for 30 mins and climbed into bed! I’ve not even walked the dog today as dd did it. Poor doggo.

tomorrow- oh please please can we just see the end of this RAIN ?!!?!!! It’s bloody miserable. Dog is going to puppy club all day so I will be able to run on my lunch break but I don’t want to if it’s cold and grey. I did a really good menu last night and ordered my shop to come tomorrow so foods all Sorted for the week.i’ve really going to try hard this week, get my ‘new member’ head on and aim for a decent loss. I’m now 9.5lbs down since I started in September and I could actually get my 1 stone within 2 weeks if I really focus and knuckle down. I’m now just a fraction under 11stone and I am sick of bobbing around under and over So I’m really going for it this week

my plan:

  • more protein, more veg, less carbs
  • mix up my breakfast options (I bought some wraps and some other things)
  • prep lunches in advance so I actually eat them and don’t just graze at the fridge
  • track every little morsel on my app
  • get my steps and my other workouts /runs in
  • water- more water!

wish me luck!!

Sedgwick · 14/03/2024 20:45

Well done on your loss @thenewaveragebear1983 , good luck for next week and dodge those germs.

@endlesswashing good luck for your weigh in.

poorpaws · 14/03/2024 21:50

OMG I've completely fallen off the wagon tonight. For someone who has given up chocolate, I've eaten soooo much chocolate tonight and I know I'll be furious with myself tomorrow.

The dull grey wet weather plus an unexpected £300 bill have sent me into a chocolate frenzy. Oh I'm so bloody sick of myself 🙈

Well done @thenewaveragebear1983 that's great news.

Failed yet another day since Mothers Day got hampers of Chocolates and biscuits and got Mothers Day cupcakes and some other cakes and since then I've been off my weight loss plan. Been trying my best and I've lost 16 lbs in 10 weeks but once I start again with my sweet tooth there's no stopping me and I'm just so miserable that I'm just so so weak. Try again tomorrow I guess for a better day.

Theredjellybean · 15/03/2024 11:50

I've fallen too...I've had terrible news this week.
My df (who is 92) and is extremely fit and well...he does park run, walks every day, sea swims with me regularly and is like a 60 year old , has had a diagnosis of a blood cancer. Quite advanced and they will offer chemo but it's going to be rough and only likely buy him a year... untreated he has a few weeks maybe month or 2.
I'm devastated, my mother is not coping well ..not sure what's worse ... dealing with her or my dad dying ? They are devoted to each other and both worried about the other...and I just want this to be a bad dream.
So this week I have given into emotional eating...
