Tummy still fat after loosing one stone

WtfHormones · 07/09/2023 10:50

I've lost one stone healthily and gradually and I've been doing abs pilates workouts regularly. BMI wise I think I need to loose another half a stone but my stomach is still so fat. I think if my goal was to have a flat stomach I would completely loose all my boobs and bum before that happened and I'd look skinny in all other areas.

Do I have to just accept that a flat stomach is unachievable for me?

How much do u weigh and how old are u. Have u had kids?

Bananas1350 · 07/09/2023 12:47

Sorry they sound really personal questions but they make a difference

WtfHormones · 07/09/2023 13:02

I'm 5'8 weighed 13 stone now down to 12 stone. I have broad shoulders and big feet. Small boobs, small bum. Had two children, 7 and 4 but I look pretty much as I did before I had kids. I had c sections with both.

Could you have diastis recti?

WtfHormones · 07/09/2023 13:50

Hmm, I don't think so as I can see my top two signs of a six pack and they are close together I have no idea about the others as they are under so much fat!

My BMI is 19.5 and I've never had a flat stomach, even as an underweight teenager, it's just not my shape.

ViolettaVonVargon · 07/09/2023 14:05

I’m 5ft 5, 7 stone 7 and do not have a flat stomach. I’m not sure it’s possible after a couple of kids, and I’m not prepared to go down to an unhealthy weight to prove it

ManchesterLu · 07/09/2023 14:33

It sounds stupid but all you can do is be as healthy as you can. If you're exercising and eating right, and you're a healthy weight, you can't really control where your body stores its remaining fat.

I have the same issue and it's annoying (well, I'm overweight again now ffs) but you just have to make sure you're healthy and realise that what you look like doesn't really matter. Completely easier said than done, and I promise I do understand that.

Icantbelieveitsnotnutter · 07/09/2023 14:34

Gluten bloat maybe?

Hubblebubble · 07/09/2023 15:54

If you've still got half a stone to drop before you're a healthy BMI, I'd suggest trying to get to the midrange of a healthy BMI before you give up hopes of a flat stomach

Bubbles254 · 07/09/2023 18:03

In my experience lower belly fat is the absolute last fat to go especially if you are over 40. I still have a small amount at bmi of 19, weight 49kg and waist 25". I think you would need to get down to around 9 stone (lower end of healthy weight) to get a flat stomach unless you have a lot of muscle.

Seaweed42 · 07/09/2023 18:12

You'll probably have to do some exercise that targets the tummy.
If you've NEVER exercised your stomach/core then it's just slack muscles.

Pilates is good but be careful if you have a weak pelvic floor as some of those exercises go very hard on the old downstairs region.

If you have a weak pelvic floor it's very hard to find an exercise that will tighten the tummy and waist.

WtfHormones · 07/09/2023 20:33

I don't think that targetted exercise makes you lose weight in that area. I think it just builds muscle in that area.

@Hubblebubble yes you're right.

I am 5'8 and would easily be a size 18 at 12 stone. I'm still a bit chubby at 10.10 and need to get back to 10 stone.

Tisfortired · 07/09/2023 20:41

I bet your tummy is much smaller than you realise.

I too have lost almost a stone in the last 3 months eating healthily and some excercise. I was really disappointed my stomach looks the same to me but I looked at pictures of myself from around Easter time and it’s actually much flatter, although it doesn’t feel like it to me! If you haven’t already take weekly photos of your progress and also hip measurements.

roastytoastysnowballs · 07/09/2023 20:42

I'm 8 stone and I have a belly 🤷🏽‍♀️

It's very depressing

coxesorangepippin · 07/09/2023 20:45

If you lost another stone you'd lose the belly

Not necessarily. OP is now 12 stone - I'm a similar height but under 10 stone and I've got a belly. Always have had, probably always will, it's just the shape I am.

megacat · 07/09/2023 21:30

I'm the same height and 11 stone, my belly is massive. I'm trying to get back down to 10 stone where it looks much better.

Cherryonthetop2019 · 07/09/2023 21:31

I’m 5 foot 6 and weigh 10 stone. BMI is 22.5 and I have a belly. Even worse mine is B shaped so I have a tyre and a lower belly. I loose weight from every where except there!

Churchymcchurch · 07/09/2023 21:39

Look at c section pooch workouts on YouTube. It could be to do with the section as I definitely have a shelf left over from my section yet the rest of me is the same as it was before. Sadly the sucky part of being a woman is we usually have a degree of belly fat to protect our uterus/ovaries etc. I’ve definitely felt like my stomach is getting stronger with the workouts. I’d also try add in some cardio (I like fit with Jo on YouTube as it’s short bursts) and if you feel up to it, add weights into your exercise routine. Good luck!

HealthierHabits2023 · 07/09/2023 22:36

I'm 5ft 8 and 11 stone. I was 14 stone back in April 2023 but with a mixture of lowering carb intake, Intermittent fasting, one meal a day and now alternate Day fasting (36:12) I have managed to loose fat all over my body including my stomach area. My boobs and bum have got smaller but I guess it was all fat prior. This is how I lost my weight and fat.

Fasting is not for every one and it does take training of the mind. Have a look on YouTube for Dr Mindy Pelz and Thomas DeLauer if you are interested. It's best to work up to the longer fasts though for anyone interested.

This is just a suggestion and something that is working really well for me.

DelphiniumBlue · 07/09/2023 22:45

I think some women just have rounded stomachs. Mine was never flat, not even when I was under 8 stone, not when I was going to the gym daily, just never.

Vegetus · 08/09/2023 06:14

Is it wobbly fat or more of a bloat gut?

larlypops · 08/09/2023 06:22

I’m 5”9 and 12 stone and classed as just overweight for BMI, you can’t chose where fat comes off of and losing more weight will help but I also think genetics plays a part, I have a flat stomach but all weight gain goes to my lower body, I just weight lift to keep it in shape but health wise I’d need to lose a stone to be a sensible mid range BMI
