What made you want to lose weight?

Out of curiosity, did you have a specific 'light-bulb' moment when you became aware of your size or decided to try to lose weight?

Someone asked me the other day why I had decided to lose weight and I couldn't really answer. I think it was just gradual for me, hadn't been happy with my size for ages, but I can't remember what finally prompted me to change something.

Loads but I remember seeing the stat about obesity being the second biggest cause of cancer.
And also when people were saying excuse me to get past me in shop aisles when I thought there was plenty of room. I realised I was taking up the whole aisle

It was a few things for me.

Health reasons - I've had more back pain than usual over the last 18 months or so which I'm convinced is weight related.

Holiday - I'm going away for my 30th birthday; I want to have some photos I can look back on and not hate myself (as much!). I'll still be fat, but hopefully less so!

And for partly the same reasons - I'm due to be a bridesmaid for a friend and want to be able to find a dress that looks nice on me and not look horrible in the photos.

And not forgetting standing on the scales and realising I'm the heaviest I've ever been!

I got sick and tired of feeling sick and tired. Caught my reflection in a shop window one day and realised I looked 4-5 months pregnant - I was 0 months pregnant. Was coming up to 30 and decided to do something about it then, rather than wait until I was 40 or 50

An exceedingly high blood pressure reading. I was only about 1.5 stones overweight, but I reckoned losing weight might help along with other measures under my control to reduce my BP.

I was getting hefty and, as an apple, was starting to look like Buddha. I could see me following DM & DGM in shape.
DGM ended up immobile and in a home with painful arthritis. I have been diagnosed with arthritis younger than she was and know staying a healthy weight is going to help. I don’t want to end up in a home relying on strangers wiping my backside if I can help it.
DM is on statins and BP medication. I didn’t want to end up the same.

2 reasons: Firstly my health
Secondly, I wanted to stay desirable to the opposite sex. Shallow but true!

Mines depressing but honest.

I had lost weight before and never kept it off. Covid happened. They were saying obese people were dying. I lost my dad when I was 12 and there was no way I was letting my children go the same thing just because I was overweight. I lost 5 stone and have kept off 4.5 for 3 years.

Getting out of breath going up one flight of stairs and struggling playing with toddler DS.

I have always tried and failed. And as a result of my terrible eating I now have a bad gallbladder. Nothing stops u from eating processed or fatty foods like the pain of a gallbladder. Been doing the under 3% fat diet u need to do with this medical problem. And I lost 8 pounds in just the last week. Not a healthy way to do it. But when ur scared of putting any food in ur mouth u lose weight the worst way.
Have read up on it. And u really need a healthy bmi for the operation.

on a side note. Feel much better cutting out the junk food.
