Mysimba not working - anyone else?

I have had to swap to Mysimba due to the Saxenda shortage (private prescription). I was doing really well on Saxenda so I was a bit disappointed, but I thought the Mysimba might be as good.

Well...it's been three weeks and it's made no difference at all. I am hungry all the time, even on the maximum dose.

I am not someone who overeats due to craving particular foods, and I don't binge eat, so I wonder if Mysimba isn't likely to help me. I did think it was supposed to be an appetite suppressant however, which it doesn't appear to be.

Has anyone else experienced this and is it worth ordering another month's worth and seeing if it improves? I know that Bupropion which is one of the ingredients can take a couple of months to kick in to treat depression, so I'm wondering if it's the same for Mysimba, although there is nothing online to suggest this.

I'm feeling the same.
But it's giving me really hot flushes. Especially at night. I reckon I'm burning 🥵 up due to an increased metabolism!
I am also still am on 3 a day 4 weeks on.
I'm just trying to maintain my current weight until Wegovy is available.

Sorry it’s not working for you either. I’ve had insomnia and been really hot at night too. I feel like giving up, but if it takes a while to work I’m willing to fork out another £100 for a month to try it properly. I just can’t understand why it’s not working when all the reviews online suggest it’s really good…

I have to say compared to Ozempic it's pretty crap. I found Saxenda really effective too, but sadly I started reacting really badly to the injection & ended up with big lumps everywhere I'd injected.
I will probably order another month's worth as well & see how I do.

That’s bad luck about the Saxenda, not that you can get it now anyway. I found an old Mumsnet thread where someone said that Mysimba had taken two months to work, so I’ll give it one more month and after that I’ll just have to see how I get on with willpower alone (not very well I suspect).

It took a couple of months to kick in for me and then I lost three stone. My cravings vanished and while I still felt hungry I could only eat small portions.
My problem is that it stopped working for me after about six months. I had a break and started again but nothing. Very disappointed.

Cantonet · 25/08/2023 12:39

Wow, that was a good result @beguilingeyes . Was that on 4 tablets a day? I'm just getting such bad hot flushes at night I'm still mainly on two tablets daily.

beguilingeyes · 25/08/2023 13:10

Four a day. I'm still taking them but nothing at the moment.

So I have been on Mysimba for 2 weeks and it has not only stopped my cravings for midnight snacking, I've cut down on wine and cigarettes too (i have attempted to stop smoking several times over the past 20 years and failed).. It seems to kerb all the naughty things in life you shouldn't have.. only side effect is that my libido has dropped.. like I said, kerbs all the naughty things.. I had a couple of head aches the first day or two but now I don't have anything like that.. I just forget about food.. I have lost 10lb in 2 weeks

Has anyone had a few alcoholic drinks on mysimba? Any reaction?!

Cath2712 · 02/07/2024 13:46

Im thinking of trying Mysimba - I have a good 10-15 lbs to get off and NOTHING is working. I lost two stone years ago on the old Slimming World green, but this is menopausal weight and is apparently stuck solid. Plus I was hoping it would help me stop craving sugary drinks like peach schnapps and cherry brandy, which are ruining me. I dont fancy the idea of jabs, due to cost and putting it straight back on when you stop. Is Saxenda better? Can anyone advise please. Menopause has been brutal and I feel I'm in somebody elses body all the time now, its really getting me down.

I've been taking it for two weeks and haven't noticed any change in my appetite. I took saxenda last Yr and the effects were immediate I just couldn't afford it. Mysimba was available and I have 20kg to lose, my weight has started going up due to hormones and I just crave bad stuff constantly which I never did before. I have been extra hot and sweaty which I didn't realise was a side effect until reading these posts. I am constipated like crazy which makes me feel awful, bloated and heavy and therefore less likely to exercise so it's a bit counter productive. I was expecting Mysimba to at least give me the same 'food, oh yeah food' feeling that saxenda did, but it just hasn't stopped any of the hunger or cravings and I'm going to stop because I feel like a sweaty smelly bloat monster which is really damaging the small amount of self esteem I currently have!

I’m be applied twice online for Mysimba - both times rejected and reimbursed
