Lots to lose? Who's with me?

ODFOx · 20/08/2023 23:31

I want a quick start for a psychological boost over the next 4 weeks and then to take a more sustainable approach going forward.

Anyone with me? I'd like to lose a stone in the next month and then switch to 1-2lb a week. Over 5st to lose overall.
This week I'm increasing activity(steps, increasing water intake, being mindful of what I'm eating and avoiding high fat or sugar, making a concerted effort to eat more veg and fibre especially.
Would anyone like to join me and have a buddy?

I've got 3 and a half stone to lose, I'm counting calories, dropping out the carbs and intermittent fasting.

Valhalla17 · 21/08/2023 00:23

Me! It's day 1 for me tomorrow. I'm low carbing..well keto-ish really for a while and then will increase the carbs at some point. Will see how it goes. 😊

LoveThisUsername · 21/08/2023 17:00

How are you getting today @ODFOx I'm assuming it was day 1 for you too?

ODFOx · 21/08/2023 18:05

I've been pottering rather than letting myself rest too much today (I am getting over a surgery so can't do too much) but had a crab stick and hard boiled egg spinach salad with lots of grated carrot for lunch so I'm feeling virtuous. It was delicious actually so I'm hoping to stick with a 'mostly veg' model for at least the next few weeks. 98.6kg this morning.
How is it going for you?

Hello! I’ve got four stones to loose. I’m counting calories, I’ve noticed it works the best for me.

cansu · 21/08/2023 18:21

Five stone to lose. I am missing breakfast and eating low carb. Avoiding snacks. My major downfall is bread so am going cold turkey. No toast and no sandwiches.

cansu · 21/08/2023 18:22

Today I had a couscous salad with chicken and then a salad with cottage cheese for dinner. I feel OK. I am going to go early to bed.

Going well, 14st 1lb this morning. Going to go for a swim now and have tuna salad for dinner.

Thanks for reminding me of Crabsticks, I love those so I'll get some next time I go into town.

I am n no place to advise as I have 5st to lose through but in previous endeavours I've had positive results by having a slice of wholemeal toast with a poached egg for breakfast (and will do again when I'm on a more steady lifestyle type diet). It fulfils the need for bread and because of the egg I'm ready for lunch but not starving hungry so I make better choices. Maybe find a midway point for yourself? It is very hard to give up your main foodstuff long term, so eschewing bread may not stick.

I know exactly what you mean. I may not be able to maintain it. I think I am trying to give myself a fighting chance of losing something in the first fortnight which will then help willpower going forward!

HereForTheFreeLunch · 21/08/2023 19:10

I have loads to lose but haven't been able to stick at anything for the last few years.
I would like to join you but am afraid I have joined a few threads like this before but not got anywhere.

HappyHippyChick · 21/08/2023 19:14

I’m in! I have about 7 stone to lose.

Going to try to cut right down on ultra processed foods having horrified myself reading a book about it. Just back from holidays and the fridge is bare, so it might take me a little bit to get started!

LollipopViolet · 21/08/2023 20:26

5, possibly 6 stone to lose here.

I've started by making healthier snack choices, increasing veg, cutting down on sugar, but I'm also realising I have no off switch when it comes to my appetite, so I'm cheating a bit (or at least I feel like it's cheating because I've never succeeded on my own) - XLS Medical Weight Loss+ tablets before lunch and dinner. They're definitely helping and I've not had any side effects.

I started them on last week and when I weighed in yesterday I'd gone from 16st to 15st 9.

I've got a couple of things in the calendar I'd like to shift some weight for so hopefully this helps me stick with it.

What do they do?

Valhalla17 · 21/08/2023 22:38

I've got 37lbs to lose, so about 3 stones. I find it hard to keep any consistency...so always start off well and then end up having a mad binge to self sabotage and give up. I can't do that anymore!

Had very random food today as food shop doesn't arrive until the morning, had a few black coffees with a splash of milk, 2 lamb chops that were left over from Sunday at about 3pm....then had 3 scrambled eggs, 2 rashers of bacon and a bit of mixed veg for dinner. Had a small handful of almonds while ds had some sweets (we were watching a movie this evening). I've tried to drink quite a bit of water too.

Did a walk and some weights earlier, feeling good but planning on getting a decent night's sleep now to avoid thoughts of food and carbs!

Looks like everyone is making a good start this week, the healthier snack choices will definitely help. I think just not having it in the house at all will make this much easier.

ODFOx · 21/08/2023 23:56

After my pottering today I hit a wall and couldn't face making dinner. Ended up ordering in. I had a ' chicken breast burger' with all the salad and then left the bun and bunged the lot (garlic and mint yogurt included) into a partly grilled red pepper instead.

It was really tasty; I'd seen 'pepper sandwiches' on social media but never tried it. It worked well with the chicken and salad. The chicken breast was unexpectedly breaded so was carby enough!
3L water, a black coffee and 2 teas with a splash of milk today. Aiming to increase fluid overall.

@LoveThisUsername they’re a fat and sugar binder made from natural extracts that apparently mean you don’t absorb all the fat and sugar from foods.

in practice what I’ve found is they also reduce my appetite, so I eat smaller amounts, and I’m also not craving fatty or sugary foods.

LoveThisUsername · 22/08/2023 09:09

Ok thanks, do they work like alli/xenical? Those things are dangerous 😂

I plan to have a salad at lunchtime and soup for dinner today.

Valhalla17 · 23/08/2023 01:19

Hi all, how are you getting on?
Late to bed tonight....ds has been unwell today with fever.
I've had black coffees this morning, bacon/eggs at lunch...then I made a salad with sardines gor dinner. Long day working on the laptop, so got some steps in this evening. 45mins or so. Feeling peckish now but have avoided the crisps in the cupboard so far!

LoveThisUsername · 23/08/2023 08:08

I had an omelette and soup yesterday, ad an unplanned fast day on about 500 calories. Didn't go swimming because I didn't feel like it. Will try for 500 again on Thursday and incorporate 5:2 if I can.

Badgaston · 23/08/2023 08:12

Me please. Wanting to lose at least 6 stone. Mentally been in quite a low place for a while and my weight isn’t helping things. Ideally I’d like to get rid of as much weight as possible but I know long term that won’t work so I think I’m going to calorie count. I won’t cut out anything just eat less of it and in moderation. Although I might consider not having crisps as I love them.

eleanorwish · 23/08/2023 11:09

I have 5 to 6 stones to lose, have been struggling with motivation the last few weeks. I'm going to calorie count and gradually build up my steps to 10000.
I was successful a couple of years ago by limiting calories to 1500 and doing 10k steps a day

ODFOx · 23/08/2023 20:18

Not the quick loss I was after but after a busy couple of days I've had to submit to a greater degree of convalescence.
98.1 kg this morning

ODFOx · 24/08/2023 09:54

The pottering is paying off I think.
Toast and marmite for breakfast, leftovers from the freezer for lunch ( Moroccan lamb with rice and roasted veg) and then DS made a chicken curry for dinner.
I drank tea with breakfast, about 2.5l of water and then a glass of white wine with dinner.

I did about 7k steps on the spot and swept all the skirting boards yesterday but otherwise was very sedentary (2 naps!!)
97.5 kg this morning.
How is everyone getting on today?

I'm using this thread just to check my own progress but to have it written down and have someone to buddy with does help I think.

We're all using different ways to cut our calories and most of us are increasing movement a bit. There's no judgement here either. You'll be welcome if you do join in.
