I'm interested to know what others have struggled with - because it can be so tough sometimes - has anyone used any good products that can help?

Thanks

Nutterjacks · 05/08/2023 14:41

Bring menopausal, too tired to exercise, eating convenience/unhealthy foods and alcohol.

VictoriaVenkman · 05/08/2023 14:42

Slimming world completely warped my relationship with food and I have no idea how to get back to ‘normal’. This could be a very useful thread.

Would love for you to elaborate on the slimming world point?

greyhairnomore · 05/08/2023 14:46

ADHD
Lack of planning, self sabotage.
Lack of motivation and willpower, hatred of exercise.
Love of sweet things.
Borderline depression.
I want Saxenda but can't get hold of any atm.

RabbitsRock · 05/08/2023 14:48

Definitely wine plus I have had physical health problems for the last 3 years so haven’t been able to do much exercise. I weigh more than DH & he’s nearly a foot taller than me!

LindorDoubleChoc · 05/08/2023 14:51

My love of wine and bread and potatoes.

BlastedSkreet · 05/08/2023 14:55

BlueRidgeMountain · 05/08/2023 10:07

Frankly the amount of shit I’m dealing with at the moment. I cannot add one more thing to have to think about, so I don’t.

This.
sorry to hear @BlueRidgeMountain things are tough.

I need escape but too I have too much responsibility to turn to drugs / alcohol so I have turned to food.

HareSong · 05/08/2023 15:04

Snacking. Lack of will-power. I love to snack. I'd rather snack than eat meals, but then I don't notice how much I am eating...

If I can stay out of the cupboards between mealtimes, I do fine. But when it comes to make the 'snack or not snack?' choice, I mostly fail to ask myself if I am really hungry, or just choosing to eat crunchy snacks out of habit and enjoyment.

When I notice and records every mouthful, and don't eat between meals, my weight stays stable or goes down (depending what I am aiming for).

Genuinely wondering after a year of no alcohol, complete diet overhaul and thrice weekly gym exercise. Went to GP about it yesterday and having bloods taken next week to try and identify exactly what.

timoteigirl · 05/08/2023 15:07

sugar addiction. Mindless eating

Chocolatesandroses · 05/08/2023 15:08

Binge eating

thenewaveragebear1983 · 05/08/2023 17:31

Wine
sugar

I just got my test results back though and it seems I have underactive thyroid, not enough to treat me immediately but enough to need retested. After 18 months feeling exhausted, demotivated, unhealthy, gaining weight, sleeping badly, palpitations and anxiety, it’s actually a bit of a relief that there is “something” and I’m going to have a big overhaul of my lifestyle in the 3 months until I’m retested.

Working night shifts

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 05/08/2023 17:48

The same thing as most people really: deliberately restricting your food intake is a pretty unnatural thing to do (animals don't do it) and it goes against our deep-rooted instinct to seek out and eat highly calorific food in order to survive. It takes an immense amount of willpower to fight our instincts day-in day-out, which is why weight loss regimes almost always fail in the long term.

The only really reliable way of being slim is to not get fat in the first place! Once you do, and you start trying to diet, you almost certainly end up endlessly yo-yo-ing upwards, one step forwards two steps back. Depressing really.

SecretVictoria · 05/08/2023 18:03

Shift work. Commuting. Lack of time due to the former.

It takes mental energy which I just haven’t got. If I could work part time I’d find it so much easier but my job doesn’t allow it and I can’t find one that does 😢

Oysterbabe · 05/08/2023 18:05

My appetite far exceeds my nutrient needs. I'm always hungry and can eat A LOT before I feel full.

mammy202223 · 05/08/2023 18:07

I keep getting pregnant. Also, I hate to sweat it makes me feel claustrophobic

Seriously79 · 05/08/2023 18:10

Me. I'm lazy.

catscalledbeanz · 05/08/2023 18:30

For me it's unrealistic goals. I CAN stick to a healthy diet and exercise plan, but when it doesn't "work" in 4-8weeks I give up. Which is pathetic as I know it took me a decade or more to put all of this on, so it'll take a year or five to get it all off. Thanks for the thread op. Some self reflection is good for the soul, mine at least.

heartofglass23 · 05/08/2023 18:35

Tiredness- to exhausted to exercise

Loneliness- I'd prefer to go to the gym/ a class/ a walk with a pal than on my own but don't have anyone to go with other than DP.

I like the taste and texture of unhealthy/ high calorie food and don't like veg.

General sedentary lifestyle.

DP / family are a bad influence- not of them watch what they eat.

Autism means sensory issues around food. Also difficulties with routine changes.

Food gives me pleasure!

You must have had an awful consultant . Slimming world at its purest is based on fresh food eaten until you feel comfortably full . I agree so many members, and sadly a good few consultants seem to spend their time working out ways to bend the rules, thus giving it its underserved bad reputation .

I have read of a consultant, either on here or Reddit, that told people if they were feeling hungry to “fill up on Diet Coke”. They promote ‘monster foods’ (certain brands of yogurt and processed crap with sweetener) and declare that bananas have to by ‘synned’ (why can’t they spell?) if used in a smoothie but not if eaten whole 🙄.

A lot of their recipes also call for sweeteners to be added when there is no need.

Vrisky · 05/08/2023 19:41

My teenage daughter.

She has some mental health problems but NOT (so far) any eating disorders.

Her 2 best friends have EDs. I had an ED when I was a teenager. It is so so easy to fall into that.

So I have never restricted food, talked about calories or diets, etc etc. We have plenty of healthy food (and some unhealthy) and everyone helps themselves.

I am greedy and my weight has crept up. I'm not huge, but am overweight. I'd really like to do keto (worked well for me pre children) but there's no way I'm going to go on a noticeable diet until my daughter leaves home.

My mum was always dieting and talking about it and it affected me and my sister so badly.
