I'm interested to know what others have struggled with - because it can be so tough sometimes - has anyone used any good products that can help?

Thanks

ED. I have been anorexic and now I eat too much- I am completely unable to eat normally and self-regulate. If I'm not consciously undereating, I'm unconsciously overeating.

Having to cater for others as well as myself. It would be much easier to buy and prepare healthy stuff I like for meals if I only had to consider my own eating habits and tastes. Having to cook and cater for DH and the DC definitely does not help.

Me too.. ASD and such selective eating means I cook at least 4 different meals...

If I want to eat a healthy option it would need to be five and most days that's just too much

Cake. Lost weight. Looked / felt great.
Started eating cake. I’m now fat again.

Sugarfree23 · 05/08/2023 10:53

Take-aways and my love of sweets and chocolate.

I failed in my sugar free bid, I don't think I lasted to the 3rd of January

Slimming world completely warped my relationship with food and I have no idea how to get back to ‘normal’. This could be a very useful thread.

ADHD - binge eating/stimulus craving

This and on top of ADHD, perimenopause and hormones due to a 15 day cycle(constantly craving carbs and sugar). Once I start eating bad food I am like ‘f#ck it, I might as well carry on and start a fresh tomorrow’. I’m not hugely overweight but would like to lose a stone and tone up but at the moment my body aches too much to manage too much exercise.

PerspiringElizabeth · 05/08/2023 11:46

Autoimmune disease. I eat really well and exercise as much as I can. Harder to lose weight when your immune system is fucked.

tobee · 05/08/2023 11:50

I do have fluctuations with thyroid function/medication balance but mostly it's being fed up with restricting myself endlessly.

I can do it for a while. But find it hard because I see eating as a fun and sociable activity. Restrictions are not fun.

Oh and also a massive one:- eating exactly keeping to plan but the scales don't shift. Despite it working well in the past. 🤷🏻‍♀️ But not using scales regularly has been disastrous in the past for me.

thenightsky · 05/08/2023 12:08

mostly it's being fed up with restricting myself endlessly.

That's me too. Then its the weekend and I 'treat' myself to wine, which wrecks my willpower and I eat carbs like crisps, crackers with cheese, buttered toast.

irrationalsense · 05/08/2023 14:04

Badly managed indigestion/excess stomach acid. Because I then just confuse the horrible feeling with hunger and eat. Or I have something carby or milky because I stupidly think it will soothe it. Spoiler alert: it never works.

stealtheatingtunnocks · 05/08/2023 14:08

Years of trying to lose weight, decades of it. Now I don’t know if I am hungry or full and I don’t know what my body shape is. I am divorced from my body. And the ADHD bingeing doesn’t help.

Gettingbysomehow · 05/08/2023 14:12

Being unable to exercise due to back problems and arthritis. I eat no processed food or sugar. I'm vegetarian and I do intermittent fasting. Weight loss is so slow. It would just fall off if I could actually do more.

Greed. Eating too much food stops me from losing weight.

Twopintsprick81 · 05/08/2023 14:18

Binge eating, sugar addiction, alcohol dependance..and just general lack of motivation the older I get. Sadly, it was far easier to lose weight 20 years ago when I wanted to look hot in skimpy outfits.

Portion sizes. I actually eat really healthy, don't like sweets, chocolate, or fizzy drinks. But need to eat an entire menus worth of food to feel full. I cooked a kilo of mince the other day intending to freeze half. The dc had a portion each, I ate the rest myself! I pick while I'm cooking, eat a full dinner, then go back and finish the leftovers.

YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake · 05/08/2023 14:27

Binge eating. I can get it under control for a few months generally and drop weight, but always lose control again and put it back on plus extra.

For me, binge eating in the evenings because I’m exhausted. I can eat hardly anything for most of the day and then it all just goes wrong in the evening.

I’m trying to sort it out by eating a bigger breakfast and lunch and more protein overall which will be much healthier.
