I'm currently due to step up to 1mg on Tuesday. I've been on 0.5 for 4 weeks. I usually go with health express but it's now out of stock! Has anyone had any luck?

Perhaps all those pesky diabetics are causing the shortage. 🙄

Imagine the thoughtlessness!

Purplerain1144 · 04/08/2023 14:07

There's a national shortage, expected to last til middle of next year. Patients who are prescribed it for diabetes are having it stopped due to the shortage

Soontobe60 · 04/08/2023 14:12

Yes, my diabetic sister is also struggling to get her prescription sorted out!

Because people buy it online so there is none available for prescriptions

Yeah, I'd leave it for a year, give the manufacturers time to catch up with demand. Same for Saxenda.

VanillaImpulse · 04/08/2023 14:23

It should be ring fenced for diabetics really

Most pharmacies are. They prioritise the diabetic/ NHS prescriptions and if they have extra then they sell it to the private prescriptions.

How would a pharmacist know if the person has diabetes or not?

Presumably because they have an NHS prescription for the drug?

If they have an NHS prescription, then it's for diabetes.

If they don't have an NHS prescription then the pharmacy will have to issue the prescription, which requires them having medical history and other information. They wouldn't prescribe it for diabetes via a prescribing pharmacy.

Gingerkittykat · 04/08/2023 16:20

Diabetics are not being prioritised by pharmacies, we also can't get hold of it. My diabetes nurse wanted some ringfenced for use by the NHS but it's not happened.

Ditto. Well I'm on Victoza, but same issue... ridiculous when it really helps me

Depends on your pharmacy. I'm working with a couple who when they get stock do prioritise the diabetics. I'm a carer for a relative who uses it, and have become friendly with the pharmacy we use.

There are stock issues regardless of why it's needed, so the pharmacies are struggling to stock it at all.

Twiglets1 · 04/08/2023 17:30

I believe that pharmacies have now been formally told they should be prioritising people with diabetes as stock is so limited. They will normally have NHS not private prescriptions. Not sure if they are generally following that guidance or not.

People have been getting it (in increasing numbers)for weight loss via private prescriptions from online pharmacies.

@DueinJuly22 OP to answer your question, try rightangled, they have the lower doses but I don’t think you will find any 1mg anywhere

DueinJuly22 · 05/08/2023 08:19

Right point taken.

@DueinJuly22 wegovy the drug licensed for weight loss is due to be released in the UK in the coming weeks. All the main suppliers like Manuel and my juniper will be offering it. It's semaglutide the same as ozempic but at higher doses so hopefully effective for weight loss. I'm sure there will be lots of wegovy threads in the coming months. Good luck x

Twiglets1 · 05/08/2023 12:25

@SarahC50 I have read many reports saying that Wegovy won’t be available in the U.K. until mid 2024. Some sources say until at least mid 2024.

Juniper may have told you it’s coming in the next few weeks but I wouldn’t trust them as a reliable source. They have already shown themselves to be unreliable. For example, taking on new customers during a time of growing shortages, rather than prioritising the customers they had already promised a 6 month diet plan to.
And not being transparent about the fact the 0.25 pen contains the same amount as the 0.5 pen they charge more for.

MichelleScarn · 05/08/2023 12:31

I would have thought ozempic would have super escalated weight loss given how prolific its shortage has been in the news and that people are willing to take it from those who have diabetes but have just read an article that it's about 3-5lbs a month only?! Really?

GCAcademic · 04/08/2023 14:36

I get NHS prescription for Ozempic and I got my 3 month supply prescription filled last week with no delay.

Gingerkittykat · 06/08/2023 19:17

It's god that the NHS are prioritising diabetics now, it was only a couple of months ago that my nurse said she had all her prescriptions sent back to her because the pharmacy were unable to fulfill them.

I've got an appointment at the end of the month so will ask again.
