10 pound challenge

I’m starting this thread as a way to publicly shame myself into sticking to a healthy eating and exercise plan, but anyone is welcome to join.

About me: I’m 5’2” and I’ve been more or less the same weight (9st) since I was about 14 (23 years ago!) except for during my eating disorder years. I think my lowest healthy, non-pregnant weight ever was 7st12 and my heaviest was 10st. Recently however my body size and shape has changed a lot for no apparent reason. Right now I am fluctuating between 9st2 and 9st4 and it does not look good. My US size 6 clothes are uncomfortably tight and my belly can no longer be hidden. It’s really starting to get me down. I don’t want to waste any more of my life obsessing about what I look like so I’d rather fix it permanently so I never have to think about it again.

TBH, I’m not sure how much more I can realistically do because I already eat fairly well and walk/cycle a lot (I don’t have time for much other exercise) but I’m hoping that by sticking to 1200 calories and cutting out junk, I will be able to lose 10 pounds before the end of the summer.

I will be posting my weight here once a week for the next 10 weeks to hold myself accountable.

Feel free to do the same!

Less cardio and start strength training as regularly as time allows. It's far better for body composition and your own self image than cardio is.

@Vegetus I see this mentioned a lot about "strength training" and "resistance training" but I don't know what it means. Does it mean going to the gym and using the machines? Or working out with dumbbells?

Either or. They both do the same thing. Machines are easier to just pick up and play with free weights like dumbells and barbells require a bit of skill to get the most out of.
