Evesmama - I'm still here - and don't worry we're not shocked. Having more to lose just means that you'll lose it faster. Just to give you hope that it can be done, I'll own up that I was (whisper it!) heavier than you are now when I first joined this last year, but managed to lose 5 stones in 7 months doing this. Obviously as I'm still here I do have a bit more still to lose though.

WigWamBam · 12/01/2005 13:47

Evesmama - if it's any consolation, you're not the heaviest - I'll own up that my starting weight is bang on 20 stone so I'm certainly not shocked.

What I am sure about is that no-one on this thread will be judged on the basis of what they weigh.

Evesmama · 12/01/2005 14:18

thankyou 'both' of you.
how are you doing so far then wwb?
and lunarsea(what a nice name!)what have you been doing to do so well? what do you eat or stick too?
and thankyou both for welcoming me and making it less daunting

WigWamBam · 12/01/2005 14:25

I haven't dare weigh myself again yet, Evesmama - I'm trying to keep away from the scales until weighing day because otherwise I get obsessed with them and weigh myself 8 or 9 times a day! Besides, I don't want to break them through over-use .

Evesmama · 12/01/2005 14:28

i know what you mean, our scales only officially record your weight up to 16st, so when i get weighed i have to snaek a quick peek before i jump off as it then says 'ERROR'
and it tells you your body fat
have you just started yourself then?when do you get weighed? and what do you eat to shift the pounds?

WigWamBam · 12/01/2005 14:36

I lost three stone after I had dd at a Rosemary Conley class - low fat diet and lots of exercise - but the class closed and there are no more around here that I can get to easily. Most of the weight has gone back on again, so I'm going to have another go. As I can't get to a class I shall be doing it on my own - with the odd kick up the bottom from Yorkiegirl on the way, I expect!

I was going to go back on the Rosemary Conley diet, but my MIL has lent me a copy of the GI Diet book, and I quite fancy that, along with trying to up my exercise. So, I've stocked up on lots of wholegrain pasta, rice, bread and so on to replace the refined stuff with (although dh keeps stealing my bread, and dd is addicted to my All-Bran, would you believe!) and it really is keeping the hunger pangs away. I'm also trying to get out for an extra walk every evening once dh is home. I already walk everywhere as it is, but at the pace of a 3.5 year old, it's probably not particularly good exercise!

Are you at a class, or are you going it alone as well?

Evesmama · 12/01/2005 14:55

doing it from home too. dp is also trying to shed a few pounds so we're planning to get a healthy shop on sat!
used to go to s.w but dont feel i go do it now, cant be botherd with a class or rather id feel too much pressure and my fragile state of mind couldnt handle it
did lose a lot through s.w though so working along the lines of that(red and green days)
who is GI?
i lost weight whilst preg and although obviously got heavier when full terma lost 2 stone almost straight away!! stayed off for quite a while as i walked everywhere as we lived close to town in a lovely leafy area near park and so on, but when i realised i wouldnt be going back to work, we downsises and although lived near here before, theres nothing nice around thats local so dont go out much...then when dp was made redundant last may, we spent our days out and about and eating out/takeaways all the time and even got to the point just before christmas where we were eating 2 big bars of choc nearly every night
it had to stop, as this was the reason im now so big

WigWamBam · 12/01/2005 15:02

GI stands for Glycaemic Index, it's based on chosing carbohydrates which raise the levels of glucose in the blood slowly and so help stop sugar cravings - hence wholemeal everything! It seems very common sense and unfaddy, and certainly I've not been hungry since I started doing this.

Evesmama · 12/01/2005 15:04

that sounds interesting as im more into green days on s.w...potatoes,pasta, rice etc.
are you working wwb or are you a sahm? im the latter and swapping between mn and cbeebies with dd

MadameButterfly · 12/01/2005 15:34

Hi there.

I have just joined Weight Watchers this morning.

My starting weight is 11st 6lbs. It may not siound a lot to those you you that are heavier, but I am only 4ft 11.5in, so being 2st over weight really shows.

I am going to try the no count diet this week abnd see how I get on.

I have just had a jacket potato with baked beans for my lunch. Not sure what to have for tea yet, but I think it will probably include lots of veggies.

WigWamBam · 12/01/2005 15:58

I'm a sahm, Evesmama ...

Evesmama · 12/01/2005 16:04

well i say i am ive been more of an addict to mn today, ive got one dd(hence my name)
ive had brekky: 2 slices of toast scared by some butter)dinner:a massive jacket spud with beans(and a bit o butter[shame]), 2 finger kit kat after dinner(not for breakfast as usual!)banana and lots and lots of cordial! i think sometimes i eat when im just thirsty so have been weeing all day, dont know what to have for tea as havent really got healthy stuff in at minute?????

hi madame butterfly, ive just joinedhere this afty, am trying to lose weight myself along with wwww

Evesmama · 12/01/2005 16:08

im off to do dd's tea now, but if i can tear my self away from "you are what you eat" tonight..ill be back on. take care and ggod luck.

LunarSea · 12/01/2005 19:02

Hi - I've been (fairly loosely) doing South Beach, but I've added a few extra twists/rules to it as I've adapted it to what suits me:
no wheat
wine only at weekends
plan for weekend meals to be more "normal", and only try to lose during the week
have fish as often as meat, and don't consider either essential every day (I usually do fish/shellfish and meat 3 days a week each and one day vege's only).

coppertop · 12/01/2005 19:09

I've just e-mailed you too, YG.

I've lost about a stone so far but need a good kick up the backside to keep me going. I'm just eating less and exercising more, rather than following any particular diet/plan.

Good luck everyone!

Evesmama · 12/01/2005 21:00

hi coppertop, im trying to do something myself too.
dont excersize other than walking so am gunna dig out an old excersize vid and have just cut out rubbish and not eating as much when i do eat..seems to be working at minute

bottle · 12/01/2005 21:19

yorkie have emailed you

Evesmama · 12/01/2005 21:23

posted on other thread too...is it ok to eat after 6pm????or naughty?

WigWamBam · 12/01/2005 21:27

Evesmama, it depends on the diet you're doing, some diets have a "carbohydrate curfew", where you can't eat carbohydrates after 6pm, other diets say it doesn't matter when you eat the calories.

I think it's OK to eat after 6pm, but I don't like to eat too late otherwise I don't feel as if enough of the food gets burned off, if that makes sense.
