Planning on putting Mumsnet Mamas on hold for a few weeks over the Festive Season. Will restart in January.
Who would like to join us? No shame, just support!

I'll take the plunge and join too, have been trying to lose post-pregnancy weight for ages (dd turning 4 this year ). I can't go to a slimming club as there are none at times I can attend around here but could do with help and support.

Sweetsong · 08/01/2005 18:39

Can I join in too? Miam tells me you're friendly and supportive - which sounds good to me. I have a lot of weight to lose and find it really hard to motivate myself, so I might need my bottom kicking every now and then.

miam · 08/01/2005 18:49

Hi mammya - you've come to the right place! Plenty of support to be had here. Can't wait to get going again and will be lovely to have your input.

Sweetsong - sooooo glad you are here. (You are very sensible to take such fab advice on board! (And so quickly too...) Congrats to you!! We can help each other now. Here's to slim new bods in 2005!!! Yorkie is very good at giving severe kicks up the butt.

What are you both planning to do??

Sweetsong · 08/01/2005 19:38

I doubt if it'll be a slim new bod this year for me, miam, but a bit slimmer would be good!

I used to do Rosemary Conley, so I'll probably go back to that, and try and get my exercise by going out in the evenings for brisk walks - I already walk everywhere, but usually have dd in tow so it can hardly be classed as exercise!

You said you were doing food combining - how easy have you found getting to grips with that?

Demented · 08/01/2005 22:28

Sounds good miam!

I have taken the plunge and joined Slimming World and am enjoying eating again!!! I have been able to eat soooo much it's fantastic!

BTW the couple-ish bottles of wine are not to be consumed in the one sitting, just generally taken to wash down the crisps and chocs until desired weightgain is achieved!

How did it go with your big sis and the vino? She can be quite persuasive!

Blossomhill · 08/01/2005 22:39

Please can I join??? Serioulsy need to loose a stone as heaviest I have ever been.
Am going to the gym Tuesdays and Thursday but seriously need to stop drinking wine and eating crap!!!

Sweetsong · 09/01/2005 10:04

Demented - relax, I'm not related to miam at all

miam · 09/01/2005 10:18

lol demented!!!! I was incredibly well restrained at big sis's - I had absolutely NO alcohol and NO nibbles - was that good or what? My halo was glowing very brightly, but it is rather tarnished this morning as took your advice re the alcohol a bit too literally last night....

sweetsong - we are all sisters on MN!!! My (rl) younger sis is going to a Rosemary Conley class - they have an exercise class combined with the slimming class. Sounds good. The food combining is fairly easy. I have to really think about my meals though - it is a whole new way of eating. Have to remember not to have protein with carbs etc but I am eating masses of fruit and veg which has to be good for me. I have lost 5lbs since being on it (started last week) so definately think it is working!!!! I do have some strange things to eat though, had salmon for breakfast!!!

Hi blossom - glad you have joined us. The gym is a good step. I am starting aerobics and salsa (not at the same time...) this week.

Sweetsong · 09/01/2005 10:20

I did RC for ages until the class instructor had a baby and gave up - and I can't get to another class. I think for me it was the exercise that worked, rather than the diet - hence trying to boost my exercise levels again, as I'm a bit of a couch spud (or a computer chair spud ...)

miam · 09/01/2005 10:27

Yeah, me too. I have even considered buying one of those speedshaper contraptions so I can exercise at home. Although I have lost a lot of weight my stomach still is almost touching the ground so need to exercise drastically. By the way, I tried on a skirt this morning that used to fit me beautifully (was a size 12 from Asda, but in reality was about a size 18....) and it is HUGE on me!!! I could fit another person in there! Felt great.

Sweetsong · 09/01/2005 10:48

Fantastic, miam.

Even size 18 is a long way away for me ... but I really have to do something now.

miam · 09/01/2005 11:06

You sound really determined sweetsong - that's great! Even if you have a long way to go though, you will be seeing results every step of the way. And that will keep you going. And ofcourse we are all here to keep kicking your backside at frequent intervals!!!

Sweetsong · 09/01/2005 11:44

It's big enough ...

Thanks miam x

Demented · 09/01/2005 14:23

Phew that's a relief that you're not miam's big sis Sweetsong, I regularly panic about people I know being on here knowing me and me not having a clue who they are!

Sorry about the wine advice miam, although sounds like you did well resisting on Friday! Although by the sounds of it you are going to need a whole new wardrobe! Size 12 (even if it was a big size 12) hanging off you!!! WoW!!!

I was quite pleased at myself for getting through a kiddies' party on Saturday without touching any food or drink (except a diet coke and a cup of tea), despite taking a bottle of wine and a mutual friend who is a very good cook and baking having made the most delicious choc cake, my DS1 took two bites out of his slice and plonked the rest on my knee, told me he had had enough, it looked and smelt gorgeous!!!

I am having a go at this No Count thing as I'm fed up with counting points. I am a bit worried though that I might manage to put on weight, but I guess that as you're eating similarish things as on SW that it should be OK, fingers crossed.

Demented · 09/01/2005 17:19

Woo hoo! 26 of us!!! Fantastic!

Yorkie - there are plenty of other free web-based email accounts around. Try this one for example.

Allegra · 10/01/2005 10:29

I'd like to join again, Yorkiegirl. I have put back the weight I lost last year and then some. Not feeling very motivated yet as too much chocolate and goodies left over from Christmas. I'm planning to do a combination of weightwatchers online and low GI.

bottle · 10/01/2005 14:02

yorkiegirl you have forgotten me

Distracted · 10/01/2005 21:41

So when do we start?

I'm just starting off by trying to generally cut down on what I eat and starting to exercise. I've done no exercise whatsoever since my ds was born 3 months ago. My mum has now offered to babysit once a week until I go back to work (late March) so that I can go to the gym and I've discovered a belly dancing class is starting up locally next week on Tuesday evenings. Dh has agreed to try to get home in time each Tuesday so that I can go (I haven't been able to do an evening class since my dd was born and she's 2 years 9 months). So feeling quite positive right now about making a new start

mammya · 10/01/2005 21:44

Ooooh, belly dancing, lucky you! I did some belly dancing classes a few years ago and loved it! Unfortunately there are none round here that I know of.
