Silly question about what I can eat during low carb diet.

Pleae humour me on this. I'm pretty sure I know the answer but just need a bt of confirmation.

So I have prepared a healthy evening meal for my family. This is it;

New potatoes, celeriac, red and yellow pepper, red onion, strips of turkey and parsley. This will all be roasted in a extra virgin olive oil, lemon juice and dijon mustard dressing.

It's supposed to be very healthy but of course on my diet I cant have the potatoes. What I want to know is - Is it ok for me to enjoy this meal and just pick out the spuds?. Or will the carbs from the spuds have seeped into the rest of the food?

I'm thinking that I can have it, but would would you do?

Depends what stage of what diet you are on really. Yes the potatoes are the obvious bit, but if you were following Atkins for eg and were in induction you'd have to restrict the amt of lemon juice and avoid the peppers and red onions. You really are aiming for green leafy veg and meat/fish for the first stage.

However if it were me I'd go for it as it is without the spuds. My own version of lc induction is very relaxed but it works for me.

Carbs won't seep out.
Are you doing Atkins or just "no starchy carbs (potatoes, rice, pasta, bread) after 5pm type thing?

pinkdolly · 19/02/2008 13:38

Thanx ormIrian. I'm not actually following atkins (a bit too extreme for me). But I have reduced my carb intake a lot.

It just looked so yummy as I was preparing it that I thought I'd love to give it a go. But obviously not if I'll regret it on the scales later on.

iklboo, not atkins, dont really like to eat carbs after 5, but have done. just really limiting my carb content and have cut out all the things you mentioned. Other then a piece of wholemeal bread for brekki.

I'm not eating spuds etc after 5pm but eatingloads of other veg like baby corn, sugar snap peas, green beans, fine beans, peppers, mushrooms, onions, sweet potato, butternut squash etc.
Really enjoying it and I've lost half a stone in 4 weeks

iklboo, congrats on your weight loss, you sound like your doing really well. I started on the 11th Jan and have lost a stone so far. So must be doing something right. Have also been walking a lot more and playing squash, so more active aswell.

I'm actually really enjoying my diet. It used to be awful before. I am now eating loads more veg. And have introduced seeds and nuts into my diet. Feeling so much better for it.

My oven is up the swanee at the minute so we can't roast any veg at the minute so we're griddling most of it.
I'm being good during the day too - it's almost always someone's birthday or they're celebrating something and bringing in cakes & biscuits & sweets and I've been SO good and not had any
DO you have a 'naughty' day where you can eat what you like for 24 hours?

pinkdolly · 19/02/2008 13:49

No I dont really have naughty days, other then last monday/tuesday when it was my birthday. But I do allow myself little treats.

I eat a square of dark chocolate every day. Which was impossible before, because if you put a bar of choccy infront of me I would devour it in seconds. (and would have several a week).

I think it's good that you allow yourself treats or time off. Other wise you start hankering after all the things you used to eat and can get a bit fed up with your diet.
