Just looking to see if anyone else is having a wobble! Need a bit of kick up the backside.

I’ve been eating well and calorie counting with Fitbit and getting myself moving.I was 13st 4 in February and now I’m 12 stone 6, so I’m 12lbs down but still have about 3 stone to lose and I’m just having a wobble day and feel like going out with the kids to get ice cream but I know that will throw the whole day and I will end up making something really yummy for dinner.

Just need to stick with it but it is hard!

Perhaps you are lacking in calcium? I was craving prawns and eggs yesterday so most likely low in protein

WeAreTheHeroes · 30/04/2023 13:26

Why does having an ice cream mean you will fall off the wagon completely? Allow yourself the odd thing you really enjoy within your weight loss calories then get back on it. Don't use it as an excuse to think you've failed and compound it with self-sabotage.

WeAreTheHeroes · 30/04/2023 13:28

Another way of looking at this is that it's not a realistic eating plan if you are not allowing yourself some of the things you really enjoy. You're almost setting yourself up to fail.

I have just finished losing three and a half stone. I gave myself one day off calorie-counting each fortnight. It’s not like alcohol addiction where one lapse signals failure - one day off every so often makes it easier to stick to the diet.

I've lost 2 stone and eat chocolate, ice cream, sweets etc but count it into my daily allowance. I want to teach my children normal eating and share things with them like eating an ice cream after dinner or at the beach or eating snack things on movie night. It's about balance. I also allow myself a maintenance calories day sometimes to allow for days out or special occasions.

RudsyFarmer · 30/04/2023 13:48

I’m not a fan of calorie counting. I think it’s very easy to slip into disordered eating and start bingeing/purging if you restrict.

I prefer fasting. I eat the food like in a smaller resting window. Instead of denying food I’m deferring it.

Surely having an ice cream once a week is not going to mean you can't lose weight?

WeAreTheHeroes · 30/04/2023 13:52

You're still restricting your calorie intake by doing that though. It's a simple fact that you need to take in fewer calories than you expend in order to lose weight, However you choose to achieve that.

It won't, but the OP clearly would see having an ice cream as a failure and says she would go on to continue eating in a way she feels she shouldn't.

I’m really all or nothing in every aspect of life. So, either I eat properly and healthily or I don’t.

Just haven’t learned the balance, which I really need to do. But I still have this thing in my head like, “Well, you’ve had extra today so why not just write today off and have what you want.”

Not a healthy way to think but I’ve tried to change for years and have not.

Anyway, we went round to a friend’s so avoided any junk food trips!
