Exercise while on VLCD

I started the fast 800 on Monday and so far it is going well.
I'm just wondering if anyone has any advice in regards to exercise while on this diet.
I don't do anything intense such as sprinting but I do walk my dog each night and have started going a lot further since losing 3 1/2 stone. I burn between 500-600 calories some nights. Is this too much?
I am also taking wellwoman multivitamins to supplement my diet as I was worried about not meeting all my nutrient requirements with so little calories.

The only downside of exercise is it increases appetite by depleting glycogen stores. If you can exercise while sticking to low calories then why not. The more I exercise the hungrier I get so don’t do much more than 10k steps and maybe some body weight exercises.

What kind of exercise were you thinking of doing?

OwlsDance · 28/04/2023 07:04

Your body will tell you if it's too much.

I don't quite understand why you're doing fast 800 when you've already lost 3.5 stone. What were you doing before? I would continue that if you're worried about your health on such low calories.

I'm planning to continue dog walking. I was just concerned it may be unhealthy as I'm eating 800 calories but burning 5/600 during the walks.

Are you sure you’re burning 600 calories on a dog walk? That sounds like a lot. It’s much harder to burn that amount of calories than you’d think.

If you are in fact eating only 800 calories and burning 600, of course that’s unhealthy.

I have read good things about it and wanted to give it a try, I only started last Monday but it's going well so far so I'm planning to try and stay on the plan for 12 weeks.
I have lost 3.5 stone but I still have another 2.5 to go and I suppose I'm trying to speed things up.

It's 5/600 calories according to my FitBit, though I'm not sure quite how accurate they are.
I walk around 3.5 miles and there's lots of steep hills, maybe that is why.
I feel healthy in my self, but I'm planning to stick at it and listen to my body. If at any point it gets too much I will stop and increase my calories.

How many miles are you doing on those dog walks? I've walked 11.5 miles today in total up and down some big hills and carrying shopping some of the time and fitbit and my fitness pal say I've used 453 calories through exercise. I walk at a brisk pace too.

adistraction · 28/04/2023 23:31

I have attached a screenshot of my calorie burn, does anyone know if this seems accurate for the distance walked?

I think it may add in your basic metabolic calories to that but even so it's a lot. How much do you weigh or what's your BMI?

Fitbit tells me I burn similar but mfp doesn't agree.

adistraction · 28/04/2023 23:40

I'm currently 12 stone 6.8 pounds as of this morning. My BMI is just under 30 so I'm still basically obese at 5ft 4.

I usually only burn 2200 cals per day if I have a lazy day but when I do walk the dog it's around 2700 sometimes more.

Having just looked at mine on fitbit it definitely adds the basic metabolic rate calories to the actual exercise. My fitness pal looks just at the exercise. So today my total energy expenditure was 2559 calories (fitbit) and 453 of that was exercise calories(mfp). My BMI is 21.79.

If you work out your tdee it will help you figure out what your calories need to be to lose weight. I find it very helpful.
