Weekend bingeing

I‘ve been trying to lose at least 5kg (ideally 8) since the beginning of the year. I have currently lost 3kg. So it is coming off slowly but surely.

But weekends are really my downfall, and I know I would have hit at least one of my goals if I had good habits at the end of the week.

It generally starts Friday night- we always have homemade pizza, which is within my calorie allowance. But then I add a glass of wine. Which often turns into a bottle. Which is accompanied by snacks 😬

Then Saturday and Sunday I let myself have treats, because I have worked hard and been ‘good’ all week.

I just keep going round and round and I know I can’t keep having cheat weekends if I want to lose the last kg.

Tonight there is no wine in the house so hopefully at least today won’t be a write off.

Does anyone have any other tips?

Maybe a visual reminder to print out and stick somewhere prominent will help.
Consistency is key so start a new habit, don’t have the snacks in the house and keep yourself busy so you don’t think about wine & snacks. You’ve made a great start losing 3kg, well done!

That’s such a good idea to look at the calories over a week, thanks so much for this! This is basically what my weeks look like (but weekend calories are never that high, more like 2200-2500. Which is bad enough!)

Ummm….The illustration shows how bingeing at the weekend ups your average weekly calories, keeping you in the maintenance range rather than deficit, and so affects weight loss.

Surely if you're losing the weight and you've lost over half of what your goal is, then whats the problem? You'll carry on and get to your goal in time

It always amazes me how much alcohol people drink and then complain they aren't losing weight. A bottle of wine contains around 600 calories according to google. Plus snacks and you're likely eating the equivalent of an extra days calories just on a Friday night. Empty calories too, not to mention the negative effect on your body from drinking that much in one night.

Yes that is what I was referring to in my post, the illustration didn’t quote too. The illustration shows exactly where I am going wrong- being under maintenance all week and over at the weekend is an unfavourable average

Because I’m impatient I guess 😆

I am losing weight, just slower than I want. You’re right, it can often add up to an extra day of calories 😬

Limit treats to Friday OR Saturday. One treat day per week. Otherwise treat days are half your week.

What kind of snack do you eat?

Yes I totally get that

I suppose the problem is that if you change too much in terms of your dietary habits when you dont actually need to, you're at risk of then wanting to eat more and undoing it anyway

Your current method is working by the looks of it.
