So I'm trying to lose a few pounds and started counting calories.

Where I'm struggling is with breakfast. I've been having porridge made with water but an hour or so later I'm hungry again.

Could you please give me your most filling low calorie breakfast ideas please

You need protein and a small amount of fat. Greek yoghurt and fruit or scrambled eggs and tomatoes are a good start.

mrsbyers · 20/04/2023 09:19

eggs

Porridgeislife · 20/04/2023 09:21

Eggs and a sausage.

I thought porridge was life!? 😂

Thank you.
Eggs and tomatoes. Tinned tomatoes or fresh?

Scrambled eggs, smoked salmon, a few slices of cheese and tomatoes.

Will see you through to dinner.

FishChipsMushyPeas · 20/04/2023 09:25

Eggs on wholewheat toast does it for me (poached, dry fried, scrambled, boiled whatever).

Protein and fat makes a huge difference and eggs have both.

20g Porridge made with almond milk, teaspoon of chia seeds, teaspoon of pumpkin seeds, teaspoon of peanut butter and half a small banana.

Eggs

Smoked Salmon

Smoked Haddock

Smoked Mackerel

Mushrooms, Tomatoes, Courgettes etc

I love breakfast but I try to swim first then eat my breakfast after but today I’ve just eaten the porridge one now and am going for a 5km walk.

I have loads of weight to lose so I’m changing the way I eat and when I eat.

Experiment with what keeps you full but a bit of protein like seeds, yoghurt etc usually helps with this when I eat porridge.

I know it's not everyone's choice of tea but chia pudding keeps me full for hours and hours.

I make it with semi skimmed milk topped with banana peanut butter and cinnamon. It's lovely and so filling.

I think I would like that my son too but he doesn’t like peanut butter I’ll look up some recipes on the internet.

femfemlicious · 20/04/2023 09:30

1 toast and vegetable omelette

GU9 · 20/04/2023 09:33

@Wc100423

Another one I do is blend up some raspberries and Greek yog in the blender and add the seeds. There are so many ways to do it.

Instead of peanut butter you can mash the banana with a little bit of honey and cinnamon. It's a staple breakfast in this house but a lot of MN think they are very pretentious Grin

UnDruidlyWords · 20/04/2023 09:35

Another vote for eggs and a slice of good quality wholemeal bread to go with it.

brittanyfairies · 20/04/2023 09:35

I have breakfast at 6 and then lunch at 12.30 and what gets me through the morning is a poached egg, grilled mushrooms and a grilled tomato. It really stops the hunger pangs and I used to fill up on porridge every morning and was always hungry by 10.00.

LavenderfortheBees · 20/04/2023 10:09

Overnights oats made with Greek yoghurt and chia seeds, topped with raspberries.

No added sugar Swiss muesli with yoghurt instead of milk.

Scrambled eggs with various bits of veg (I like mushrooms and spinach).

Bacon medallions and/or skinny chicken sausages and poached eggs.

Shakshuka if you can be arsed.

Blondey2023 · 20/04/2023 10:23

Shredded wheat bitesize or raisin wheats, with skimmed milk. Keep me full for hours.

Comefromaway · 20/04/2023 10:23

Another vote for eggs. I feel very full after I've eaten scrambled egg on toast

tescocreditcard · 20/04/2023 10:25

Yet another vote for eggs. Two eggs and one slice of really good seeded bread. Protein sits on your stomach for a long time and stops the hunger pangs.

Selttan · 20/04/2023 10:31

Overnight weetbix - (weetbix, sweetener, yoghurt, protein powder and topping). I've been having Biscoff with Banana this week.

Crispynoodle · 20/04/2023 10:41

M&S have got maple protein pancakes these are great with fruit

NCforthis123456 · 20/04/2023 10:46

I am on SW currently - my breakfast of choice that fills me up is overnight oats with fruit.

My one that I am loving at the moment is;

40g oats mixed with 0 fat greek yoghurt, splash of oat milk and water, mix all together. Sometimes i mix in a spoonful of either honey or a dash of vanilla extract. Cut up some nectarine and spoon on top and add a small dash of vanilla dusting powder on top. It's absolutely delicious and keeps me full all morning.

Cakencookieobsessed · 20/04/2023 10:50

Skinny sausage or Heck chicken sausage, eggs, beans or tomatoes, bacon medallions.
Sardines or Mackerel on wholemeal toast.
Scrambled eggs on wholemeal toast.
Wholegrain cereal.
Tinned mushrooms on toast.

That sounds lovely too I buy big bags of chia seeds from Costco and they do fill you up more than just porridge on it’s own.

I discovered dark roasted peanut butter in Lidl and I’m addicted!

tkkid93 · 20/04/2023 18:47

Thanks all for the ideas.

How many grams of oats, Greek yoghurt and chia seeds should I use for the over night oats?

Also @Selttan how many wheetabix and how much yoghurt do you use?
