Most filling breakfast

So I'm trying to lose a few pounds and started counting calories.

Where I'm struggling is with breakfast. I've been having porridge made with water but an hour or so later I'm hungry again.

Could you please give me your most filling low calorie breakfast ideas please

A handful of walnuts, a little chunk of cheese and a pear is my current breakfast and it keeps me really satisfied

QuintanaRoo · 21/04/2023 07:24

I meal prep 4x breakfasts in one go.

I whisk 4 eggs up, chop up a pepper and add some spinach into the mix and put this in a rectangular size baking dish in the oven for around 15 mins, dish needs to be the size of approx 4 bagels.

I get 4 protein bagels. I cut a quarter of the egg mix and put it in a bagel, I add a slice of round smoked cheese on top. Wrap in foil and put in the freezer if not eating that day. The night before I want it I take it out the freezer. If I’m at home I’ll blast it in the airfryer to warm it up. If at work I microwave it.

Gonnagetacatwhenimovein · 21/04/2023 07:32

@GU9 what kind of Greek yoghurt do you use? With fat or without?

TheFormidableMrsC · 21/04/2023 07:33

I have some seeded sourdough with a blob of Aldi smashed avocado and a poached egg. Very filling and keeps me going til lunchtime. I also wouldn't make porridge with water. Try Almond or Oat milk if you don't want dairy which are much more filling.

Cheese omelette

I know it's not everyone's choice of tea but chia pudding keeps me full for hours and hours.

I make it with semi skimmed milk topped with banana peanut butter and cinnamon. It's lovely and so filling.

Could you tell me what chia pudding is please ?

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 21/04/2023 08:25

Mine is overnight oats. Dried oats, frozen fruit on top and then light yoghurt. Keeps me full until lunchtime

sashh · 21/04/2023 08:58

I do protein for breakfast, often eggs.

I eat low carb but not no carb but I avoid carbs at breakfast so omelet, scrambled, boiled or microwaved eggs (pierce the yolk before cooking).

Greek yoghurt, sometimes with nuts added, the full fat version.

Humus sometimes on its own other time with veg sticks.

Sometimes bacon or sausage and egg.

I usually have some form of fruit mid morning.

Thanks all for the ideas.

How many grams of oats, Greek yoghurt and chia seeds should I use for the over night oats?

Also @Selttan how many wheetabix and how much yoghurt do you use?

I tend to follow this recipe and sometimes adjust to suit that days calories/macros

Another vote for eggs! I have a boiled egg with 2 ryvitas with a scrapping of butter.

Some days I have 100 grams 0% Greek yogurt with half a teaspoon of honey

crimsonpeak · 21/04/2023 09:25

I had a mushroom, sweet chilli and egg omelette his morning instead of my usual Exante meal replacement bar. I used a recipe from The Slimming Foodie book.

Nottogetapenny · 21/04/2023 09:26

That’s 0% fat free Greek yogurt, not Greek style yogurt! Big difference

Wenfy · 21/04/2023 09:27

I follow Zoe and so have a small handful of nuts as soon as I can in the morning (works out to be about 6 nuts) and then after a while I have a portion of ricotta cheese (or 2 eggs) topped by seeds, tabasco sauce, and 2-3 wholegrain crackers.

mondaytosunday · 21/04/2023 09:29

I have 50g smoked salmon, a large egg (prefer duck) and a handful of cherry tomatoes and a cup of tea. It is filling and I'm not hungry before lunch. Protein is more filling than carbs.

PosiePerkinPootleFlump · 21/04/2023 09:30

Don't include oats - my recent experiments with a blood sugar monitor suggest that even along with fat and protein they spike your blood sugar, which will make you feel hungry when your blood sugar hurtles back down post spike.
Mix up 100g fresh or frozen blueberries or Strawberries, 200g Greek (not Greek style) yog if 0% fat or nearer 140g if high fat, 10-15g chia seeds and 20-25g other seeds the night before and put in fridge overnight. Stir and eat the next day

CoffeeChocolateWine · 21/04/2023 09:42

@GU9, would you mind posting the recipe for those chia pudding variations? Including quantities and method? Many thanks.

toastofthetown · 21/04/2023 09:54

What is filling varies so much from person to person. For me, eating anything in the morning makes me hungrier than not eating breakfast, so I skip breakfast. There’s lots of evidence too that having a longer fast period has lots of benefits. Also, for me chia pudding is the most awful food I’ve eaten in the last five years. The texture is beyond words.

orangegato · 21/04/2023 11:29

18g chia seeds, 150g milk, 10g protein powder for flavour. Mix once then mix again an hour later as it settles.

No matter what I eat for breakfast I’m starving by 10am. I just need to graze like a goat.

Overnights oats made with Greek yoghurt and chia seeds, topped with raspberries.

No added sugar Swiss muesli with yoghurt instead of milk.

Scrambled eggs with various bits of veg (I like mushrooms and spinach).

Bacon medallions and/or skinny chicken sausages and poached eggs.

Shakshuka if you can be arsed.

No-added-sugar-muesli has the same amount of calories as ordinary muesli.

GU9 · 21/04/2023 12:08

For everybody wanting chia recipes:

Either Greek yog or normal will do.
I prefer with milk.

  • 2 heaped tablespoons with 450ml semi skimmed milk (texture is how I like it so add more seeds If wanting thicker or more milk to thin)
  • a drizzle of vanilla essence OR a squeeze of honey
  • tablespoon of cinnamon

Mix all together and put in fridge for a few hours or over night.

Toppings: 1 mashed banana, a teaspoon of any nut butter and another pinch of cinnamon.

Can also do the above without nut butters.

I also like lemon zest with coconut / raspberries on top. :)

Wc100423 · 21/04/2023 13:32

Thanks @GU9 I will be making this tonight with yoghurt as I like a thicker consistency looking forward to my breakfast tomorrow. I had sour bread toast and boiled eggs today because my DH boiled me 2 eggs before I got home from swimming. I enjoyed it but I did miss my chia seed fix!

If doing with Greek yoghurt how much would you recommend?

GU9 · 21/04/2023 15:25

For every tablespoon or chia I use 4 tablespoons of yogurt.

If using plain yog put a splash of vanilla essence or cinnamon or hunny in. It may take a few goes to find what texture or consistency you like but it's so good for you.

Helps keep you regular too but don't eat too many or you'll be on the loo a lot!

If you use milk you can still get the yogurt thickness, just use less milk and more seeds.

It might take you a few goes to get a texture you're happy with.

Also don't forget to stir the shit out of it, as sometimes the seeds can clump together!

Plain yogurt is really nice with honey and chia. Enjoy!

GU9 · 21/04/2023 15:28

This was my chia this morning. This is a double portion though so lasts me 2 days.

With the peanut butter and cinnamon topping. Was very yummy! (Sorry to hi Jack your thread with lots of chia posts OP)
