I've lost 2kg overnight??

Hello. I've just bought some digital scales as never had them before and want to lose weight. I weighed myself in the same clothes last night and this morning and the difference is 2kg! Is this normal fluctuation or are the scales faulty? Thanks.

I reckon I lose about 1kg overnight. Obviously that's largely water. So 2kg might be possible depending on how much you had drunk etc. My scales also read slightly differently depending on how I stand on them and if they are flat on the floor. So I weigh myself in the same position first thing in the morning.

Normal fluid fluctuation.

You need to pick a time of the day and stick to it. I weigh Saturday morning before eating or drinking anything. If you weighed at several points during one day you'd see different numbers every time.

I’m always lighter in the morning. Digital scales are very accurate. If you weigh yourself before/ after a wee then you will be down about 200g. I’d agree with a pp about keeping them in one place on a flat hard floor.

A possible cause of error with digital scales is that they decide your weight and 'freeze' on it. So if you accidentally, say, put your hand on a chair or the bathroom sink or whatever when you step on the scales, and then take it off, the scales might freeze on your slightly lighter weight while you are leaning on something.

Weigh same time in the morning, no clothes (why would you wear clothes?!). Never in the evening.

Thanks. I was just trying them out and wondered. I'll stick to the suggestions given above and no clothes!

My digital scales weigh me 4lbs heavier/lighter depending on which spot on the bathroom floor I put them on!

I'm 3kg heavier if I weigh upstairs than downstairs.

DH didn't believe me so I weighed myself upstairs, walked downstairs with the scales and weighed there again too.

Guess where I weigh myself now? 🤣🤣

I have some digital scales that are not that accurate at all, I think they are Salter brand. I can stand on them, get a reading, immediately stand on them again and get a reading that's about 1kg heavier. So it could be a problem with the scales, combined with loss of fluid overnight.
