So day one of my healthy eating/weight loss effort and I'm already struggling..I've ate pasta salad for dinner and beef stir fry for tea!The beef turned out like leather,I'm going to turn into a rabbit at this rate!! So I had a flake choccy bar because I was hungry and needed something sweet any suggestions of descent meals and puddings snacks would be really helpful thankyou!and does the misery last forever?!!

I think you need to give yourself a Pat on the back for starting! And acknowledge that it is hard to try to change habits, hard for everyone. I started yesterday, had a really healthy day then ended up eating McDonalds for tea as circumstances meant kids needed fed something quick and I didn’t want to wait an hr until I got home for something healthy!

Im doing WW again and trying to see this first week as getting my head back into the space of being more conscious about what I’m eating and how calorific it is.

The main thing I want to do is stop eating in the evening again, so I’m having a herbal tea just now. Last time I lost weight I did so mainly by intermittent fasting and avoiding evening snacks, that’s definitely my worst indulgence time - when I’m done in after doing kids bedtime. My (rookie) advice is pinpoint your triggers for emotional/boredom/bad habit eating and make a plan to do something different at those times.

you need to stick it out and be really strict with yourself. It gets easier. If you succeed in avoiding the sugar for three days, you are likely to find the cravings lesson hugely from then on

What was your calorie goal? Is it too low? Have you enough filling foods?

Don't cut your calories too much I think. Having lost and gained and lost and gained a few times, I accept that the weight is coming off slower this time.

Maybe try a few days not on a diet as such but very strict no sugar then when you start again with a do-able goal it'll be easier.

I've been losing weight very slowly since new year, only 12lbs in about 14 werks so not starving myself. But, no sugar, flour, rice, pasta, biscuits, cake, white bread. Ive had small amounts of sweet potato and brown soda bread so im not keto also some porridege if i feel like it. It's been slow but I'm not cracking up. I don't have that feeling that im teetering on the wagon about to fall off!.

Well done for starting!! Are you filling up on protein and keeping busy so you don’t snack. I’ve nearly 2 & half stone off but it’s so hard. Some weeks I pick a lot but I exercise and in the main don’t eat too much junk

jMillie22 · 11/04/2023 23:12

same as above don’t go on really low calories it’ll be too hard to stick to, don’t cut out anything or stop eating sugar completely it isn’t “bad” ! have a look at Leajcoaching on instagram she shares really kind helpful weightloss/life stuff I’ve messaged her a few times for bits of advice & she always replies and is encouraging

Are you using any kind of calorie counter?

Cheesedoffandgrumpy · 12/04/2023 07:04

If you have the time, research a little on intermittent fasting and the ketogenic diet.
Good luck for starting and best of luck for continuing!

jMillie22 · 12/04/2023 10:12

with the greatest respect this isn’t a good idea. Keto diet was created for epileptic children, other than put you in a calorie deficit it does nothing for your health or weight los
s you don’t need to control your blood sugar or insulin and carbs are your brains preferred source of energy. Intermittent fasting is just another way to create a calorie deficit which works for some people but if you’re prone to overeating or binge eating then it’s really not a good plan (i leant this from a nutritionist I mentioned above)

jMillie22 · 12/04/2023 10:14

honestly do have a look at leajcoaching if you have instagram idk if she has fb or not but she’s really helpful in dms down to earth always answers my questions without trying to sell me coaching lol

I did keto 2020 and got down to 9 stone but when I fell off the wagon and ate carbs, I couldn't stop. Not binging, just no carbs at all one minute and then fuck it nothing but carbs the next, bread, pasta etcetera. I feel I put on a surprising amount of weight when I was not eating rings around myself, I was "just" back on the carb heavy diet of my younger years. At the beginning of this year I started again, just cutting out most carb items like bread or pasta but not obsessively checking the carbs in a soup or in a mixed salad. I eat really healthily right now and the weight is coming off extremely slowly so I keep going. I will not yoyo again. This is it. I mean it.

Esquire3 · 13/04/2023 07:55

I'm starting day 3 now, yesterday was a bit easier,I ate healthier and wasn't so mentally thinking of how hungry I was,I am cutting down and using portion control plate to help(there is a tad of an overlap at the edges of the important parts) but doin my best,I want to get my food habit changed and then work on changing my sugary drinks to healthier ones,I will look on Insta on leajcoaching !!it sounds useful thankyou!

That sounds great glad it’s feeling a bit easier, yeah she does a lot of relationship with food stuff and getting to the cause of struggles with food and body image!! From what I’ve learnt just stick to it even when you have doubts & take small steps xx

jMillie22 · 13/04/2023 08:23

You lose more weight with carbs as they need water to be stored in your muscles as energy so you retain more water that’s why people lose lots when they first cut carbs down it’s also the water, not actually more fat loss. Lower carb can be helpful for some but isn’t better than higher carb ☺️ people tend to cut out high cal foods like cakes biscuits pasta so it’s easier to create the initial calorie deficit but that is all it is hope it works for you this time & no more yo-yoing the fuck it thing and yo-yoing also has behaviour causes like emotional eating that need addressing to stop for good xx

Slimjimtobe · 13/04/2023 10:59

This morning I stocked up on salmon (with lemon dressing and another version with sweet chilli) and I bought a bag of frozen cabbage as I find Thursday and Friday my hardest days so determined at the moment

also there’s no work in the prep (have curry on the family in the slow cooker)
