How to deal with unhelpful comments?

Hello I was looking for some help. I suffer with low confidence. Therefore I tend to comfort eat. I am overweight and after a few health problems, aching joints etc my GP advised I try and lose weight.

I have since joined a weight loss group and have been attending the session for a few weeks and have lost a few pounds.

There a few ladies that seem to sit in their own corner. My first session one approached me and commented I don't know why you are here, you don't need to lose weight. I thanked her for the compliment and replied be assured I do need to lose weight.

Last week again I walked in and another lady in the group commented. Here she is, someone like that doesn't need to be here. This time I just ignored it.

These comments seem to be extremely painful. Really knocking my confidence. I return home and have a cry.

How do I deal with this?

I would mention it to the group leader. That's pretty bitchy of these women even if it is a kind of backhanded compliment.

Are they much bigger than you? It sounds like jealousy to me. Depending on my mood and how much they pissed me off I'd say I was there so I didn't end up like them. I probably wouldn't say it but I'd want to. Nasty people make me want to be nasty back.
Definitely have a word with the leader but it doesn't sound like it might be the best group for you unless there are others in the group who you are friendly with and are supportive Flowers

Nice response: I don't have a healthy relationship with food/My GP has advised me to lose weight, I'm looking forward to all of us supporting each other with this - it can be frustrating, can't it?

My response: Piss off

Thanks for responding. @AutisticLegoLover they are older and larger than me. I tend to go to my session on the way home from work, therefore I am in workwear than casual.

I have joined the Facebook community. But not joined in. 1 of them has tried to send me a private message and a friend request on Facebook! I didn't read the message and blocked them.

The person running the group is lovely. I will have a word.
