I'm trying to following the Slimming World programme as part of the Rebecca Wheatley DVD (there isn't a class near me).

There are a couple of things about the diet I don't understand and I would really appreciate your help. I know what food is allowed on the Green & Red days, but if I wanted a chicken curry, for example, could I have:

As much rice as I want (Green Day) with a limited amount of chicken (the chicken being the healthy extra)

OR

As much chicken as I want (Red Day) with a limited amt of rice (is rice allowed as a health extra on a Red Day ?????).

Same goes for Spaghetti Bol. Am I allowed loads of pasta with a little bolagnaise (green day) OR loads of bolagnaise with a little pasta (red day).

Sorry if my question seems daft (!) but it is quite confusing starting off and if I knew for sure it would help me plan my meals much easier

Thanks!

Hi - You've got the basic idea - BUT rice isn't a B choice on a red day so I tend to have curry on a green with lots of rice, and a chicken and veg curry (1 breast of chicken as HE) - Same with stirfrys I tend to have on a green day with chicken as HE and loads of rice or noodles and veg. Spaghetti bolognese is spot on - either lots of sauce with 100g pasta as B or lots of pasta with not much mince as B (not sure how much mince counts as a B poss 85g I know its not much!).

Hope this helps!

That helps a lot Katy, thanks. Its all a bit new to me at the moment, but I need to get the optiminizing right, otherwise it won't work.

I have been following a low-carb diet for years, so being able to eat carbs again on green days (freely) is very weird to me !!!

Hi I think you'll find that the only pasta you can have on a red day is 100g wholemeal pasta (boiled weight) HTH Poppy

Right. So you are better having Spag Bol on a green day, same as the curry.

I'm going to make Pad Thai Noodles at the weekend. It will be heaven to be able to sit down with a bowl of noodles. I still can't believe I can eat carbs!

Some more daft questions!:

On green days, are cereals limited ? i.e. can I have 3 bowls of corn flakes if I want ??

The DVD didn't mention butter at all. Are you allowed limited amounts of low-fat butter ??

And finally, does anyone know how many syns are in the mini mars bars & malteesers ??

cereal is limited on green days, as a HeB - think its 1 oz - but not all cereals are HExtras.

You could make a veggie bolognaise (using just veg or quorn) and then have unlimited pasta & sauce, with 1oz of parmesan/cheddar.

Go to the slimming world website and log onto group membes. Just put in your postcode and email addy then the password (pancake this week!) for lots of ideas and syn calculator
