Ozempic - For those of us a few months in

Hi all, thought I would create a designated space outside of the newbie zone for those of us who are in it for the long haul and are a few doses, stone, months down the road.

type one as in type on diabetes and he uses the same needles for his insulin injections I should have clarified

SarahC50 · 02/05/2023 20:51

@ciderfromeleven hi Ive taken one dose of 0.5mg and I'm due my second tomorrow. I had four days of hellish gastric symptoms on the increased dose. In the 0.25mg I had bad headaches and nausea that eased with every subsequent injection. So I'm hoping with my next 0.5mg I'll only have two days of bad side effects.

Personally I'd bite the bullet and just go for the 0.5 and not split it.

Hard to know though isn't it. It's a powerful drug with potentially vile side effects certainly not an easy option is it.

I found protein shakes were easy on my stomach and quite easily digested when I couldn't really face food. Good luck x

ciderfromeleven · 02/05/2023 21:45

Thanks @SarahC50 that's heartening - I got no side effects whatsoever from the 0.25 so this is new to me! Also doesn't help that I haven't told my husband I'm using Ozempic so having to try and explain why I feel ill got a bit tricky last week (although a poorly child helped!)

SkinnySally · 02/05/2023 23:24

For those of you who haven’t told your partners, can I ask how you go about storing the pen? Don’t think I’m ready to share my usage with anyone yet.

mumwheresmyribena · 02/05/2023 23:33

@HolidayHappy123 I bought a box of 100 from Amazon. Dearer than some places but convenient for me.

orangelotus · 02/05/2023 23:35

hmm i didn't tell my husband until we were going away and i thought he would see it in the hotel fridge
he was ok with it but i didn't really give him the option to oppose it.
no one noticed it in the house hold fridge at all
once you start using it you don't need to refrigerate it it so up to you really
i don't usually have secret s from my husband but as i've done a million diets unsuccessfully i thought i'd spare him

VanellopeVonSchweetz99 · 03/05/2023 00:44

I just keep my pen + sharps box in a cosmetics bag on a high shelf. Like PP I want to spare the family my boring weight struggles. We have some friends who are obsessed with their bodies & weight, and we both think it's v boring.
DH has noticed I eat less/differently & have gone off alcohol but isn't bothered and has put it down to a challenging work opportunity, which is also partially the case. He knew my diet wasn't good and my drinking was ott, but never judged.
One IRL friend knows, in fact it was her decision to try that made me go for it too.

I stored the pen somewhere he wouldn't look - a chest of drawers in the spare room.

You only have to store it in the fridge until you first use the pen and they last I believe 6 weeks out of the fridge.

MaireadMcSweeney · 03/05/2023 07:41

My DP doesn't really cook 😆 so I store mine at the back of the fridge behind things he would never touch until I use it then it's in one of my bedside drawers that he wouldn't think of looking in for any reason.
I do kind of regret not telling him. We don't have secrets usually. I just find the whole weight issue so tedious and shaming that I didn't want to discuss it. I've told two people at work and only because one was talking about going on Cambridge again and it's so bad for her so I recommended ozempic and she's on it and delighted!

mumwheresmyribena · 03/05/2023 12:12

I told my partner. I wanted him to know in case there was an emergency and it was relevant. He trusts me to make my own decisions about my body - he also knows better than to argue about it even if he did disagree 😂

Has anyone seen the Times' news article? Launch of semaglutide on the NHS has been postponed 'indefinitely' due to shortages.

SarahC50 · 03/05/2023 12:24

@ciderfromeleven I understand you not tells Ng your husband it's a really difficult and complex decision to make re starting the drug. I've told my husband and one friend but I am very much hiding it from my teenager daughter.

My weight and struggles and ozempic bring me lots of feelings of shame and frustration with myself. It's not easy, good luck continuing on your journey x

Peridot1 · 03/05/2023 12:39

I told my husband as soon as I’d ordered my first pen. He rolled his eyes as he was so used to me trying different weight loss methods.

soon changed his tune when he realised how well it was working for me.

And I am now loud and proud about using Ozempic. For the first time ever I feel my weight loss issues were not my fault. I wasn’t a failure. I was never someone who binged. I generally ate reasonably healthily. So I’m happy to tell people I am taking it.

Oh no :(

Teddypops · 03/05/2023 13:06

Quick meds said that supplies should be up again next week. I'm not holding my breath.

SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun · 03/05/2023 13:21

I have just come here about the times article. So disappointing. I am finding it harder to get hold of Ozempic recently. Hope Quick meds get some more stock soon.

I have had quite a long plateau but do wonder if it is because my fridge thermostat has a wobble a few weeks back a froze everything. Now I have a new batch I think it is working better again. Early days though on the new pen, it may just be coincidence.

Peridot1 · 03/05/2023 13:48

Very disappointing about Wegovy. But I’m not surprised really. I think they just can’t manufacture enough and there were also issue with the actual pens as well as the medication.

Although given they knew what happened in the US when they launched Wegovy you would have thought that they could get production up and running now two years on.

Twilightstarbright · 03/05/2023 13:49

@SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun i think plateaus are quite common. Years ago I
lost 3 stone in a year on SW but it wasn’t linear at all.

CarlieH · 03/05/2023 19:02

I have just started Ozempic 0.5mg & I feel like it’s not working! I was previously on Saxenda & I’d been taking that for just over a year & lost 4st! I’ve heard about Ozempic & still want to lose more weight so thought I’d change over to it, I don’t know if it’s my mind tricking me into thinking Ozempic is not working because I’m not injecting every day like I was with the Saxenda or it is working & I just need to give it more time! I know it’s literally my first injection, my 2nd one will be Saturday & then after the 4th I’ll move up to 1mg. I just wanted some advice, reassurance or anything really to let me know I’m not going mad & it will work??

mathis2006 · 03/05/2023 19:08

@CarlieH saxenda worked better for me too

CarlieH · 03/05/2023 19:17

I’m hoping it will work 🤞🏻

mumwheresmyribena · 03/05/2023 19:22

@CarlieH This paper discusses swapping from one GLP-1 reactor to another. It suggests that moving from a short acting one to a weekly one can result in short-term FPG (fasting plasma glucose) that could account for the difference in effectiveness. If that's the case you just need to give your body time to adjust so you're blood sugar reaction returns to normal. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7566932/

I thought I’d jump on this thread!

I’m 5 weeks in now. Obviously a shortage as my Juniper is over a week late thankfully the extra nibs I ordered last week arrived yesterday earlier than expected so I was able to go ahead and inject myself with .5 (which is what I’m moving up to) on my original pen as loads left.

For the first few weeks I definitely noticed a decrease in my appetite but it slowly came back towards the end of the 4th week. It’s good and important to gague these things I think though because everyone is different.

I injected .5 yesterday and so far just feel the same but I’ve not eaten yet!

The shortages are worrying as it does sound as though it’s going to become a huge issue in the upcoming months which might be a setback to eveyone.

The only side effect I’ve experienced so far is the weird vivid dreams!!! Interestingly enough as I felt the effects of .25 diminish a bit on my appetite decrease, I also noticed that the weird dreams stopped.

I’ve lost a little weight but not a great deal. I have 3 stone to go.
