Ozempic - For those of us a few months in

Hi all, thought I would create a designated space outside of the newbie zone for those of us who are in it for the long haul and are a few doses, stone, months down the road.

Hi, sorry to come on here since I'm only four weeks in. Thank you for this thread, it's extremely helpful. Can I just ask if anyone had daily diarrhea during the first month, that later subsided? I am eating exceptionally well. It's not explosive and I don't have signs of dehydration (except for weirdly dry, scaly facial skin). It's manageable but not great. I don't have a gallbladder and wonder if that might contribute. Looking for some hopeful stories I guess. Thank you.

@msssm HealthExpress accepted that I had already been on Saxenda and let me start on 0.5mg Ozempic, and Juniper accepted that I was already on 1mg Ozempic and started me straight on that.

I think HealthExpress is pretty good value but they do have stock issues. Juniper seem to have reliable stock and are excellent value once you get on to the doses higher than 1mg.

Thank you @CheetahCheetah this is so helpful. I've ordered from quickmeds this time but will def look at Juniper for long term.

I ordered a 1mg pen as I have spare needles. I should have 2 .5 doses roughly left in this one then will do another 2 with the 1mg pen before I go up to 1.

So far I haven't lost a single pound. I didn't weigh first week as my scales needed a battery but since then nothing at all. I did just start a period for the first time in 7 months 4 days ago and have felt really bloated and craving carbs so that most likely has something to do with it. I'm 14.13 and 5'2" so a long way to go.

Definitely heartened by the positive stories on here well done everyone.

Does anyone have a daily menu plan. Im feeling very uninspired atm. Bot liking eggs and adoring carbs especially bread isnt helping...

I've not heard of many people having diarrhoea during the first month (certainly not daily), it seems like constipation is much more common.
I think you should contact your doctor to ask for advice re the gallbladder issue as that could be a factor, I don't know.

Peridot1 · 03/04/2023 09:09

@VanellopeVonSchweetz99 - there do seem to be some people having issues with diarrhoea at the moment. Some people who have been on it a while with no issues are now reporting diarrhoea. It’s quite odd.

@Karmakamelion - I don’t have a menu plan really. Am about to have boiled eggs but that doesn’t help if you don’t like eggs! Usual breakfasts - Greek yoghurt with blueberries and some flaked almonds, flaxseeds and pumpkin seeds. Or one slice of seeded sourdough with peanut butter - I try to only have bread at the weekends. I’ve had a couple of Ryvita with cheese a few times. Of slices of ham spread with Philadelphia and rolled up.

lunches - various salads with protein or soups or again Ryvita. Or eggs. I like an omelette with chopped red onion, peppers and feta. Again I try to keep bread to the weekends. I bought prosciutto and mozzarella and basil to have a salad with that this week with tomatoes. Was also thinking of doing bruschetta but using halloumi slices instead of bread.

Evening meals are just whatever we are eating and I just eat less.

Prawn cocktail is one of my fav low carb meals. I usually do a gem lettuce, pink grapefruit and prawns with cocktail sauce. Sometimes I add avocado or smoked salmon. I think there's a low carb thread in here which may have some good ideas.

Alstoybarn · 03/04/2023 22:00

Had anyone stayed the same for a month then started losing again? I'm in full dose now and losing hope

LovelaceBiggWither · 04/04/2023 04:51

@Alstoybarn yes I plateaued on .25 and .5 and .75 Now on 1 mg and weightloss has restarted. I actually regained a kilo on .5.

Peridot1 · 04/04/2023 08:11

@Alstoybarn - what do you mean by full dose? 1mg? How long for? How much do you have to lose?

Here's a link to the Zoë podcast about Ozempic if anyone's interested. Definitely recommend. Can Ozempic (semaglutide) solve weight loss?

Thanks for this! Really interesting listen.

Beenalongwinter · 04/04/2023 09:50

Has anyone changed from injections to tablets, I am over the moon with progress but think I would find the tablets easier and possibly cheaper do they both work in exactly the same way?

Peridot1 · 04/04/2023 10:17

I used them for a while when travelling as didn’t want to take the pen with me. I didn’t really like them. I could taste them. And you have to take them first thing on an empty stomach and then wait I think 20 mins before having anything else. I love my morning cuppa too much to wait. I kept forgetting and making my tea.

Changing the subject slightly.....

From your collective experience, what food/drink (aside from alcohol) presented you with horrible side effects, so much so that you would never touch the stuff again while on Ozempic/Wegovy?

Nothing, however I haven't had any alcohol (I'm not a frequent drinker anyway), sweets or cakes or biscuits or fast food. I have had potatoes and rice although only small portions, I was fine with them.

LovelaceBiggWither · 05/04/2023 03:47

Steak. It was very unpleasant for 24 hours.

mumwheresmyribena · 05/04/2023 08:13

@LovelaceBiggWither I find it utterly fascinating reading about what people can and can't eat when taking Ozempic and trying to see the differences. I had steak (150gm sirloin), saute potatoes 125gm, roasted shallots and green salad, followed by slightly less than half a tub of Oppo ice cream last Friday and was fine, it's the 2nd time I've had something similar with no ill effects. I'm sure there's a lot of money waiting for the researcher who pins down what causes it all, there was certainly a hint in the Zoë podcast the other day but I'm not sure how further it gets us or how much it was just a hunch

LovelaceBiggWither · 05/04/2023 08:21

I was amazed at the reaction. I've eaten chicken and lamb with no evil results so why the steak laid me so low I do not understand.

In the next few years we are going to learn so much about the gut, diet and digestion.

Nothing really. I can still drink but am not keen on anything fizzy. Wish it would put me off wine!

Oigetoffmylawn · 05/04/2023 17:28

Woohoo. I think the plateau is finally over. I've lost 1lb and I'm less than 1lb away from the next stone bracket.

5lbs and I'm merely "overweight" instead of obese! For the first time it feels achievable.

Ozempic is the best investment I've made in myself since uni.

Karmakamelion · 05/04/2023 22:16

Thank you all for the food advice. I've just lost another kilo!! Yippee. I'm going to do a proper meal plan to help with the incessant worrying about what to eat. Does anyone else do one ? I'm thinking of lots of tray bakes with extra vegetables rather than lots of potatoes. What do you think?

greylad · 05/04/2023 23:49

Just finished week 3 and I’ve put 1.5 kilo back on!?!

What's your total net loss for those 3 weeks? Remember weight loss isn't linear and big early losses are often not 100% fat meaning they will return once your water/glycogen stores are refilled.
