I wanted to start a thread for those taking or thinking about taking Ozempic who have not necessarily got diabetes, or who have not had it prescribed through a doctor.
I have a bmi of 30, want to lose 3 stone in about 3/4 months. Hoping it's doable. I have been on it for 1 week and have lost 7lbs. I got it through the Mayfair Weight Loss Clinic. I think it's amazing and I am so excited for my weight loss journey.

My weight loss is still zero, yet my body looks quite different.

Clothes fit better, my waist is much smaller, people comment that I have lost weight.

I do a lot of sport as well. I am beginning to wonder if it has changed my metabolism so I am more muscle less fat and also storing fat differently.

I was pre diabetic before so it would be amazing if it has helped with that. I'm less bothered about the numbers on the scales than the body composition aspect so it would be amazing if that was the case

This is my thought too!
From what I've read the weight piles back on and presumably you can't stay on it long term?
I have 2 friends contemplating starting it and while I know it's totally their decision, I feel worried for them!

Just tell them to go for it. Support them. It's like any diet when you stop, you risk piling the weight back on. You have to use it as a catalyst for changing your lifestyle. It helps you shift the lbs but you have to help yourself to keep it off.

@Circa1840
But why would I tell them to start something that appears to have awful side effects, is hugely expensive and isn't going to work long term?
I would feel like a shit friend doing that!

I have not had any adverse side effects. Its an investment in my health. I would spend £40 a week on brunches, lunches out dinners out. Now I'm not. I have reduced my dangerously high bmi.
No data has been collected from people who have taken ozempic purely for weight loss. The data is from people who have taken it to tackle diabetes and it was just a side effect that they lost the weight. I wonder if after losing a lot of weight, people who have struggled for years to find something like this would go back to eating as unhealthy as they were? I know I won't.
Would you tell your friend not to pay £90 a month for a gym membership because it just won't work? Not to bother with slimming World because it just won't work? I wouldn't tell my friend anything like that. I'd say, give it a go. What have you got to lose. Saying nything other than that, then yes, you are a shit friend.x

I would support a friend who wanted to give it a go, and point them to the Ozempic threads on Mumsnet which show that a lot of people are enjoying success in losing weight on the drug.
BUT…. As someone who suffered bad side effects myself, I would also be very honest that they may suffer nausea, constipation, vomiting. It will be expensive and they MAY put the weight back on when they stop taking it. It is not a drug to take lightly. It’s not like joining slimming world because it can make you feel really ill. Then again, some people are lucky & only get mild side effects.

I used Mounjaro instead, which has fewer side effects. I believe it is now marketed as Zepbound for weightloss. From friends who used both they said Ozempic was a struggle, side effect wise

Twiglets1 · 31/12/2023 12:36

I struggled massively with the side effects of Ozempic
& then Wegovy. Tried it twice with the same results and the second time I was so careful to try to minimise anything that could contribute to the nausea but nothing made any difference.

Some people just can’t cope as their body treats it like a poison and I don’t think there is enough discussion around this. I do understand it works for some people of course.
