What does an average days food look like? I’m thinking of someone who is moderately active- ie brisk hours walk with dog, swimming once or twice a week etc rather than a gym enthusiast!

Thanks

I'm two stone heavier than I was three years ago. So need to sort myself out.
Yesterday
Toast and butter for breakfast

Sandwich for lunch

Lasagne for dinner

Bottle of wine

I do walk a lot. Definitely do my 10k steps but I am two stone overweight

BigBoysDontCry · 23/02/2023 10:17

57 and a 12 but I am 5'9/10 so a bigger frame.

I do intermittent fasting so skip breakfast. Lunch could be something like an omelette or baked potato with beans/cheese or a sandwich or just leftovers.

I have a fairly normal dinner e.g. Spag bol, chilli, roast, stir fry, etc. and I have various bits of fruit and yoghurt and sweet treats throughout the day.

I stop eating at 8pm so usually fit in a snack either from above list or a bit of toast or small bowl of cereal/Porage, just depends how hungry I am.

Well I’m 55 if that counts. I do 16/8 fasting 5 days a week. So;
Midday - porridge or muesli with lots of added seeds and dried fruit.

3pm ish - yogurt and fresh fruit.

6pm ish - cooked dinner (we love cooking a wide variety of food) lots of veggies. Often a pudding too (home made again).

Nothing except water after 8pm.

Im a size 8-10. Two days a week I don’t fast, and I have a couple of glasses of wine.

PrimroseLane · 23/02/2023 10:39

I am 56. I have milky coffee for breakfast. I skip lunch some days, some days I have 2 scrambled eggs. Dinner is a big plate of chicken breast/wild salmon/steak/mackerel and lots of green veg or just a large plate of roasted veg. I have seconds if I want. I generally eat by 7 pm. 1 bag of crisps every day. I have potatoes on Sundays. I don’t eat pasta or bread anymore. I love wine but have cut back to a couple of times a month. I don’t have a sweet tooth.

I gained 3 stone aged 50/51 and decided I hated it. I gain weight easily. I do very little exercise. I weigh myself weekly. I am not hungry eating like this, I feel strong. I think it’s just a question of retraining yourself, new habits. I am 5ft 5” and 9 st. Next challenge for me is to get into an exercise routine.

55, size 6/8, only 5ft tall. I do OMAD for 75% of the time. I'm vegan and I do not drink alcohol at all. I walk the dog for about 1.5 hrs a day (2 walks) and I jog a mile slowly 3 x a week. I do yoga via YouTube a couple of times a week. I have a sedentary job. When I'm doing OMAD, I eat whatever I fancy, until I'm full (it's usually fairly healthy and vegetable/pulse/nut based though, with cereal/fruit for 'pudding'). I only eat for around an hour so 23 hrs fasting, 1hr eating. When I'm not OMAD - ing, I eat whatever I want whenever I fancy it. I'll happily eat chocolate, crisps, cake, chips, ice cream, sweets etc etc on those days. Nothing is rigid - I just see how I feel each day, so I may have more 'junk food days' some weeks and vice versa. If the weight creeps up I do an extended fast (up to 50hrs) and it soon goes.

Thank you for your replies. @PrimroseLane if I wanted to maintain weight loss I would basically have to eat like that. I’m pre diabetic and carbs and me don’t go well.

About to be 58 .. 5’8” ad weigh about 69kg and generally fit in 10 .. weight train twice a week and walk a lot .. trying to lose body fat

l need 1200 calories to lose weight .. 1600 maintains and any more is gain..

it’s hard work and am rethinking attitude to food a lot .. focus on 40g protein per meal and accepting that one night of wine and “normal” food results in a gain that takes a week to remove ..

MrsDoyle351 · 23/02/2023 12:01

OMG. @Queenonfleek

Are you my twin? 😅😫.

Im 58, 5’8’’. And weigh around the same. My trouble is bad knees - they are so much ‘happier’ if I weigh less than 10 stone. Which I have done in the past, but as you say, as soon as you eat ‘normally’. Ie what every other bugger seems to eat - the weight piles on asap.

I'm 56 soon and 9 stone, size 10 and it's been this way for years so imagine similar aged 58. I fast 16/8 and have sourdough toast with two poached eggs around noon then a good dinner of say beef bourguignon and mash/seabass with veg and a pudding if I fancy. Still occasionally eat pasta or home made pizza if I fancy. I may have a few coffees with a small amount of milk from the frother during the day. I go to the gym two or three times a week either to workout or swim.

spuddel · 23/02/2023 12:26

I like wine but usually only on the weekend, can't stop at one glass midweek!

Queenonfleek · 23/02/2023 16:57

I would love to be 10 stone but it would mean such restrictions on what I eat, I would find it miserable - 1200 calories is OK for a few days but it really means living on protein and veg so as not to be hungry - hard to find the joy in it except for the fleeting moment of registering a loss on the scales.. I do think I would feel better with a bit less fat so am bashing on .. taken me this long to work out that am never going to be the person who loses 2lb a week .. taken about a year to lose 20lbs but have at least enjoyed my life .. so the next 14 will be off this year .. am trying to think of it as a permanent diet change as reality is only takes another few 100 calories a day for me to start gaining weight .. I mourn my metabolism!
