The human being diet HBD - follow along?

Good evening!
Due to an injury and medication I have been very inactive in the last 6 months and eaten more sugar than I would have ever thought possible. Real addiction in full force. now is the time to do something about this and to lose weight - I desperately crave sugar, feel hangry etc daily. Doctor advised trying to reduce the medication I am on and lose weight- have been researching about the sugar addiction and how best to tackle this and have decided to try the human being diet. Have you heard of this before? Any positive stories/ reviews? Basically in first 2 days you only eat veg, then for 2 weeks veg and oil allowed then protein veg and fruit for next stage. Seems drastic but idea is to tackle the insulin resistance / sugar addiction.
iv read the book and starting on Monday once I’ve done by veg shop tomorrow and made some soup, anyone care to follow along and give it a go?
maybe bonkers but I am tempted not to weigh myself before beginning, I really really dread to know how much weight I have put on and feel I could be so aghast that’d I feel it’s not achievable to lose enough so what’s the point etc?! Or maybe I should weigh myself to be horrified and that’ll be the motivation I need to keep going. Saturday night pondering over here while I finish reading the HBD book.

I’m 6 days in and actually really enjoying it - am also 5lb down.

This week also includes a couple of days travelling with work but a bit of thinking ahead made things just fine.

I lost 5 stone about three years ago and had maintained till getting Covid last summer and putting 1-1.5 stone back on over the past few months.

Absolutely determined to get it back off and just get into some good habits and routine.

@ibelieveinmirrorballs ah brilliant , I’ve just finished day 5 and all going well so far, have slipped up and chewed some chewing gum which I didn’t realised wasn’t allowed. Finding the meals keeping me full enough so I’m not hungry and making me realise the majority of my eating must have been from boredom/ finishing kids leftovers , something sweet etc rather than actual hunger! I have set up an instagram page for meal inspo too

ahh well done @Micemice !

Yes it’s interesting isn’t it. Not really that hungry, yet the portions are relatively small. I think knowing you’re always able to eat a decent meal around the corner makes it okay for me, and I like being a little bit hungry in a way, there’s nothing wrong with it and I think we all get conditioned to be terrified of experiencing any hunger.

I made a sort of pesto dressing yesterday with a big bunch of basil, ACV, garlic cloves, water and drizzled that over salads with whatever protein - was really tasty and again I thought, the taste is here, we’re conditioned to expect oil in dressings but this is okay!

Don’t worry about the chewing gum…

I’m sure I’m going to save so much money not buying coffees, snacks etc!

Meant to say I started on Monday too so also was Day 5 yesterday like you 😝

Micemice · 12/02/2023 18:04

@ibelieveinmirrorballs how are you getting on this weekend? I havnt managed a strict5 hr fast today as without even thinking had a coffee when out and my MIL put a little gravy on my chicken today at lunch and wasn’t going to wash it off in front of them all! Are you planning to weigh in tomorrow to see how the first week has gone or wait until then end of the 16days? I am going to wait I think till next Monday I think as if I didn’t lose anything tomo then I know I’d be raging and likely throw the towel in🤪🤪

@ibelieveinmirrorballs out of interest I’ve kept a count of the calories I’ve been eating and it works out about 1110-1200 calories a day, which I know isn’t a massive amount but I was genuinely surprised as these 16 days are supposed to be the strictest and the lowest calories wise. The full fat yoghurt, 80g cheese at lunch etc all adds up without a piece of chocolate or bread in sight.

Hello! I’ve done okay this weekend.. I haven’t been having any dairy yet and am trying to wait till the end of the 16 days before reintroducing.

That sounds about right re the calories although the Daily Mail article I read on it said it was c600 a day which is definitely scaremongering.

I weigh myself daily - I hadn’t weighed for weeks and knew I’d be upset at the starting number but got it out of the way so I could enjoy the sight of the number going down. So far I’ve lost over 7lb since Monday and it’s been very motivational! I’d like to lose another 25 pounds, maybe 30.

I’ve got two days travelling with work next week but am planning ahead and either taking lunchbox with me or buying bits while out and about.

Food today was eggs, mushrooms, avocado for breakfast… smoked salmon w salad for lunch… prawn and aubergine curry for dinner. Tomorrow I’m trying cherries and walnuts for breakfast and leftover curry for lunch.. then who knows..

Totally understand the urge to hold off weighing - do you think you’ll hold out? Are you feeling any better since starting?

ibelieveinmirrorballs · 12/02/2023 18:50

PS how have the sugar cravings been? I’m absolutely terrible for bingeing bread/pastries etc and when wfh it’s all too easy to graze all day on nutritionally bankrupt food.

Micemice · 12/02/2023 20:52

@ibelieveinmirrorballs wow 7lbs that’s crazy! Well done, how motivating indeed xx
sugar cravings have disappeared and that I am so so thankful for and I honestly have so much energy last few days despite long days with kids, maybe shows I was relying on the ups of sugar and downs that came with it too. Thinking about meals is difficult, I get some inspo from instagram / had veg sticks and cheese for lunch today with an apple and it was amazing- so that’ll be a new go too especially handy for work days. If on Instagram you can find me at al_hbd - just posting meal photos for now!

That’s fantastic - all sounding very good!

I’m not sure I could say I’ve got loads of energy, it’s not that I don’t.. I think more that I do feel quite hungry some of the time. Wondering if that settles down. Will look you up on insta - I haven’t started a separate account but might do!

ibelieveinmirrorballs · 13/02/2023 07:48

I’ve requested to follow you on Instagram - I don’t have hbd in my user name (it starts itsc*** and us my actual name).

Tiny loss over past couple of days which suggests end of initial whoosh and into a more normal plod.

Cherries and walnuts with cinnamon for breakfast.. got to keep the faith!

Some fantastic inspiration on Instagram - may start hbd account!

Lorrielove · 01/09/2023 07:57

Hi - I’ve been doing the HBD for 6 weeks now - although I have been very strict my weight does fluctuate - last week I’d lost 1st4lb and today I’ve put on 2lb but haven’t cheated at all. I even stick to the 5 hours without anything (except water). Anyone else having these problems?? Also starting to get a cramp every day in one calf - not sure if that’s a side effect??

Applesjuice · 06/02/2024 12:25

I have just started the human being diet.
I have question..

If a meal was say salmon could I have parboiled veggies in chicken broth and ‘eat/drink’ the broth at that meal…no fat of course?

The book says chicken stock ok…but I’m not sure if it confuses the absorption of proteins.

thanks in anticipation.
