How the frig do you keep to a diet with PMS?

I'm doing so well, smashing my defecit goals daily, ding more exercise than planned and feeling great.

But my period is due in about one week and my mood toward dieting and myself restraint are doing a complete 180. It didn't help to be fair that I had to bake my son's birthday cake yesterday so there was chocolate and icing everywhere!

Can you please tell me if anything has worked for you? The sign I know my period is due in the next day for sure is crushing lack of energy to do anything, and that's on top of any food cravings etc.

Really worry I'm going to fall off the wagon hard either permanently or at least 8 - 10 days of the month 😞

Protein! Have a handful of protein instead of sugar whether it be fish, chicken or nuts

CandlelightGlow · 20/01/2023 10:29

Thanks - I've pushed myself to go for my usual long walk this morning pre work and I've made myself a hot sugarless coffee and protein packed savoury breakfast.

I think even being aware that those cravings are specifically due to my cycle and being able to track it helps a little. Just hope I can sustain it!

Oatcakes with peanut butter used to work for me. Probably not the best for a diet, but high fibre, high g.i and satisfied the cravings

CandlelightGlow · 20/01/2023 10:33

Oooh I do love peanut butter. I used to buy this really great peanut powder in the supermarket that was low fat too but I can't seem to find it anymore. Could have peanut butter and banana or apple or strawberries though, good shout.

Allow yourself to be slightly higher calorie/ in maintenance for those days.

MissMarplesbag · 21/01/2023 13:26

For me dark chocolate, chips and black coffee is all I crave during my periods.

Options hot chocolate for me or Alpro high protein chocolate milk heated up.

For what it’s worth, taking a chromium supplement helped with the ‘EAT EAT EAT’ appetite surge. Nothing else worked for me. My sympathies, it sucks so badly.

Oooh interesting! I do need something, I have done rubbish. Off to the gym today.
