A motivational thread for home exercisers!

Hi everyone

Thought i'd start this thread to try and give and receive some motivation to do some exercise at home.

I need to get off my enormous behind and actually do some exercise now that the conservatory has been set up with a TV and video/DVD player. I also have a step and weights too and it has been known for me to actually get very fit by doing my Step videos and using my hand weights a few years ago!

I haven't exercised for bloody months and months - probably at least 18 months. DD is now nearly 9 weeks so it's about time i started to get into shape, even just a little. My doctor told me i couldn't diet because i'm BFing but i most certainly can stop buying the choc chip muffins that i buy every day!

So basically i'm not dieting as such, just trying to cut out all of the crap food i've been eating lately, and to do a bit of exercise too.

Oh and in case you are wondering, I have 7 stone to lose. Yikes. A mountain to climb, but i'm doing to do it in baby steps, particularly as I will be TTC DC3 at the end of the year!

So far I have the following DVDs/Videos:

Cher - A New Attitude (dont laugh! It's a good basic step work out!)

Keli Roberts Step Video, the title of which escapes me at the mo, but she is the trainer in the Cher video.

Karen Amen - Crunch abdominal video (VERY good!)

Billy Blanks - Tae Bo 1 DVD. Also a very good DVD because the work out only lasts 25 minutes so you are more likely to be able to fit it in during the day. Although the work out is short and sweet, it seems to condition you very quickly.

I love step aerobics so would love any recommendations anyone has for new workout DVDs or Videos, from basic to advanced.

Please help with your support and I will do the same for you!!

Hi RG
I need to loose about a stone, just brought a treadmill - hoping that might help!

RGPargy · 03/02/2008 10:37

Good luck BB!! You simply HAVE to use it, otherwise you'll have to justify wasting that amount of money coz they're quite pricey aren't they?

OP posts:
burstingbug · 03/02/2008 10:39

Er yes very expensive, my friend paid £600 new for it, but it doesn't look like it's had much use so I have got a good deal I hope. Still paid 3 figures for it!

RGPargy · 03/02/2008 10:49

yikes!!!

Cant get on with treadmills personally. I'm not one of life's natural runners so hats off to you!!

I love step tho. Think its something to do with keeping your mind on the routine, rather than the fact that you're knackered, IYSWIM.

Steps will be my bottom stair or a couple of yellow pages

RGPargy · 03/02/2008 11:13

Haha!!

I've been doing the Nell McAndrew one and it's a killer. 3 times a week.
I have about 7 stone to loose too so your in good company RG

RGPargy · 03/02/2008 14:33

Hi Wendy!

Is the Nell McAndrews one just aerobics or is there a theme, like TaeBo, for example?

Glad i'm not the only one who has a lot to lose!

RGPargy · 03/02/2008 21:42

Well done Wendy! Do you feel it's benefitting your fitness? Good luck with your WI!

It must be helping as i lost 6lb this week

burstingbug · 04/02/2008 09:36

The treadmill is still in bits in the dining room, I'm hoping that DH will help my get it assembled upstairs today.
Well done for for loosing 6lb!

RGPargy

I recently received my copy of The Firm Maximum Cardio Burn DVD from an ebay seller and it is very good. It is not as intense as the step workout by Keli Roberts (which is brilliant) but it is very good. It combines cardio with toning exercise.

The Firm do a number of dvds with step exercise. I bought a pack of 5 DVDs from Germany for about £10. Excellent value for money and I'm working my way through them.

I also love Tae Bo (have several) and recently bought Pump it up: The Ultimate work out - that is killer and will definitely improve your cardio fitness as well as tone your body. I actually prefer that to the Nell McAndrew dvds because I find them repetitive and they can be monotonous. Ultimate Challenge is my favourite by Nell but I have to be in the right mood.

RGPargy · 04/02/2008 12:41

Thanx for that, Spokette! That Pump it up DVD looks ok as it goes! I might order that one. I like the look of a couple of the step videos on that other site too so might order those as well.

We should do a disc swap. That way you don't get bored of doing the same routine all the time.
What do you think

RGPargy · 05/02/2008 22:25

Oh FFS, i justed posted a long post and then tinterweb bloody lost it!! Gggrrr!!

Anyway, basically what i said was that yes, a disc swap is a great idea, but i want to start exercising with my old DVDs/Videos first (familiar ground and all that) before i embark on something new. Give me a couple of weeks and i'll be well up for it.

I've been good the last couple of days - no muffins or biscuits or mountains of bread. We've eaten what we normally do for meal times but i've not been snacking in between with loads of shite.

I've also done a bit of walking over the last couple of days - yesterday it was to Asda and back with the ipod (about 15 mins each way) and today i had baby massage so i parked at DP's mum's house (she lives close to where the massage is) and walked down to massage. It's only 10 mins each way but on the way back it's seriously uphill lol. I was knackered when i got to DP's mum's!!!

Still, baby steps and all that, eh?

Hopefully i'll be embarking on DVD exercise from next week, if not earlier.

Hope you've had a good day!

That sounds fab RG, keep it up xx

RGPargy · 08/02/2008 12:38

How are we all getting on this week?

I've done my walking 4 times this week, so i'm very proud of myself!

Hopefully next week i'll have the courage to start the DVDs. DD usually has a nice long nap in the mornings after her morning feed so i should be able to do something at least!

RGPargy · 11/02/2008 12:45

After a week of being good with food and doing some exercise i've GAINED 2lb so i'm feeling very miserable and pissed off. I've stuffed two choc chip muffins and two dairylea dipper things.

Looks like i'm on this thread on my own then!!

RGP I'm here to join in the home exercising fun if u are here still! Have been (since Jan) doing:
Davina - Power of 3 and my 3 30 min workouts
Charlie Brooks before and after - brilliant.
Nell McAndrew Ultimate Challenge - too hard for me!
And just bought Tae Bo vol 1 and really like that too.
How are u getting on?

RGPargy · 14/02/2008 10:38

Hiya

I still haven't managed to do any exercise at home yet, although i did do some walking yesterday. Feeling a bit disheartened at the mo because of being good last week and exercising and not losing a single pound (but gaining TWO!!). Probably something to do with BF and getting periods back too.

I'm trying to motivate myself - i really need to get my fat ass moving lol.

Glad to have some company tho!

Jacksmybaby · 14/02/2008 11:52

Hey.
The first time / first time for a long while is BY FAR THE HARDEST - getting the motivation to get going! I hadn't exercised for a good while but my kick up the a*$e came in Dec when I finally realised I was probably suffering from mild PND and needed to start taking steps to release the happy hormones! Can you book aside a time when you know you will be uninterrupted (!!) and just DO IT! Maybe once the DCs are in bed in evening and DP is home to deal with any wakenings?! (May be easier said than done with a 9 week old I realise!). Once you've done it once it's then so much easier the next time, and the next, etc. Anyway that is my challenge to you for this week: do one half hour session! And my challenge will be to do the tae bo routine - have just gone through the "instructional" practice session this morning. Let me know how you get on.

RGPargy · 14/02/2008 15:02

Oh i know - the first step is always the hardest! I've not exercised for so long!!

Thankfully DS is out at work next week so he wont be around and i wont feel embarrassed and DD normally sleeps alot in the morning so i could deffo get 30 minutes of exercise during the morning. I'll make that my new goal i think. Wish me luck!!
