Have a search - there is a big big thread on it!

Habreathmint · 02/12/2022 22:20

@AgathaMystery not especially helpful.

It's a bloody miracle. I've been on it 2 weeks and lost 16lbs. Its completely reset my brain and attitude. I'm still on the 0.6 dose and it's incredible. It does drain your energy a bit but its worth it for me as it's an effortless way to lose weight. I've toned down my exercise classes but I'm still swimming. I feel fantastic!

Right.

It’s a serious drug that can have extremely severe and unpleasant side effects. Unfortunately, some side effects mean you have to stop taking the drug entirely. Clinical trials show that most people loose 7kg in a year (ish). There are is one really big thread on it and another shorter one. I would read them both, 2 or 3 times.

It’s hard to get on the NHS so most people self fund. There are some great open access papers on its efficacy which you can access on Google scholar. I think it’s good to read the big thread as it gives a very fair and balanced view of the drug.

do I think it’s good? Yes. Are my side effects unpleasant? Absolutely. And I am not an outlier. It is a very very odd drug. I don’t know that I can in good conscience say ‘yes it’s fabulous’ because the clinical evidence isn’t brilliant. 7kg isn’t a huge amount but there will always be anecdotal data which we know, because we post on these threads, carries a lot of clout.

I have lost 10kg on it and have twice almost called 999. It is what it is. Definitely read the thread.

@AgathaMystery did do my research and condult with my doctor. I'll just concentrate on my own success thanks. It's working very effectively for me and I'll continue using it until it doesn't. I've lost over a stone in 2 weeks and it has given me a huge boost to my mental and physical health. I'm paying for it myself but I am keeping my doctor informed. I'll use my own experience and her advice rather than some random on the Internet.

Hillrunning · 03/12/2022 07:04

@hugznotdrugz sorry your thread has already gone a bit odd. @AgathaMystery has given good advice. There is a big sandex mumsnet thread which I read through before starting. I also read some of the clinical research. My own experience has been a walk in the park. 3 stone in 6 months averaging a dose of 1.8 with some breaks. Very mild nausea and thirst in the first month. I was careful to record and monitor symptoms so I think that helped me work out how to limit them. Not everyone reacts well though.

hugznotdrugz · 03/12/2022 07:13

Thanks for the advice! I did have a search but there were quite a few very small threads so couldn't see the one you were referring to

I think it is called 'sandexa support thread'.

maltesersarethedevil · 03/12/2022 07:55

I was taking saxenda and lost 2st in 6 weeks. Unfortunately the drug has completely destroyed my pancreas and I am waiting for surgery. Don't go into this lightly, research and pay attention to the bad as well as the good.

I thought it was my miracle drug, until it wasn't.

AgathaMystery · 03/12/2022 10:33

@maltesersarethedevil It’s called ‘Day 1 on Saxenda’ - about 30 pages long. There is a great mix of experiences on there.

@Habreathmint good plan. I think that’s what I suggested OP do?

FHmama · 03/12/2022 18:54

It definitely works with suppressing the appetite but the side effects were too much for me - I had to coke off it after a couple of weeks.

hugznotdrugz · 03/12/2022 19:46

@FFHmama can I ask what kind of side effects you had?

I lost 2 stone in 12 weeks but unfortunately had very bad side affects

I had really bad stomach pain and vomiting and constipation for a few weeks then that settled down but then the real pain started

I got gall bladder attacks , I went private and got them scanned and they could find nothing wrong, no gall stones

The consultant told me it's very bad for causing acute pancreatitis and gall bladder issues and not from the weight loss but from the actual drug changing consistency of bile

He said it's a risky drug and not to take it.

I had to stop it.

Ricco12 · 05/12/2022 06:06

@Habreathmint I thought the same unfortunately 12 weeks in and the pain it caused me was awful.

Be very wary of it, I'm just thankful I stopped when I did otherwise I could of ended up in hospital.

See my above post. It's highly risky
