I have lost 100lbs

I have a huge announcement to make. It's so huge I'm creating a new thread.

I have lost 100lbs.

If anyone finds it, I don’t want it back. I’ve gone from a BMI of over 50 to a BMI of under 35. I’ve gone from being super obese to just obese. So I’m still not thin, but I’m a lot nearer than I used to be.

My highest weight was in May 2021. I lost about a stone or so in the rest of the year, with the majority of my weight loss in 2022. My tracking app says my average weight loss this year has been 1.87lbs, so although I’ve lost a lot in total it’s still within what is widely considered to be the safe range.

When I started I made a list I called “100 reasons to lose 100lbs” although it actually only has 87 reasons (and a couple seem to have made it on there twice). Reading it back over, a lot of them have now changed. I couldn’t fit in my engagement ring – actually I still can’t, but it’s now because it’s too big rather than too small. Because it’s been such a gradual change over time some of them are areas I hadn’t thought about or noticed. The bed used to creak, but I don't remember the last time it did or even that it stopped.

Some of the reasons I’m still working on. I have specific pieces of clothing I’d like to wear and I can’t wait for onederland (which is soon!). I want to keep going until I have a normal BMI. The app is predicting I’ll get there by next summer, which simultaneously seems really close and also far away.

I’ve done it mainly by diet. I hurt my ankle earlier in the year which really limited what I can do. For a while I couldn’t walk for more than 5 minutes without pain so I’ve pretty much done no exercise for a lot of the time. I’m at the point now where I’ve been able to add walking back in but I still can’t do anything that people would probably consider as exercise!

I can’t believe how my life has changed. Recently I went pumpkin picking, which is amazing in itself because it involved walking in a muddy field and there's no way I would have been able to do that a year ago. But then I went on something called a barrel train - which is where you sit in a small plastic barrel and get dragged along by a tractor!!!! I fit in it easily, and had a great time. When I was at my heaviest I would never have been able to do something like that.

Absolutely smashing, well done!

This is an amazing result, well done you. You've had excellent weekly results! Your life must be very changed?
Is it exciting going clothes shopping now? Have you found your new style yet?

I'm currently in the midst of my own journey with over 20 pounds off and at least 60 more to go. I've a thread over on the fasting forum with regular updates. I'm already seeing small changes in my day to day life. Like the chair in my hairdressers doesn't creak under my weight anymore😳
I am quiet active and fit for carrying so much extra weight but little things like getting up of my knees if I'm looking for something is extremely difficult.
I'm looking forward to not battling with the airplane seat belt when we go away soon.

DuckWithOneWing · 06/11/2022 09:11

I define don't have my own style yet. I've bought some jeans recently because I feel like I'm thin enough to wear them, but other than that I'm really not sure what suits me. Weirdly, a lot of my clothes still seem to fit ok or are only a bit too big. I am quite excited for next year though as I'll be able to wear nice summer dresses!

@DuckWithOneWing hello! How are things going now?

I've come across your thread googling losing 100lbs for inspiration as I'm at the beginning of my journey (I technically need to lose more than 100 but 100 would help!) I've got a bit despondent that I may have gone "too far" and can't lose it and your threads really given me some hope.

I'd love to know more about you did it. And the first 3-6months for you.

OneMoreStepAlongTheRoadIGo · 22/11/2023 21:30

@DuckWithOneWing and @Fullofpudding

Well done both of you! How are things now? Any advice for someone starting out - or how to keep it off!?

DuckWithOneWing · 28/11/2023 09:57

Hi @OneMoreStepAlongTheRoadIGo things are ok. I've mostly kept the weight off - I want to lose more but this year has not been great for me.

My main tip is don't give up if things don't go well. If you have an off day then get back on it as soon as you can. Christmas is hard, so try not to go to too many parties and don't have too much chocolate in the house.

@DuckWithOneWing well done. An amazing achievement.
Sorry things have not been great for you this year, but as you say, one key principle of sustained loss is not to give up if you have a bad patch…. However long that patch is.

I only lost a third the amount you have, and I have bad weeks, but once I click back into my ‘healthier eating’ pattern which loses me 1lb a week the success and sense of achievement boosts my mood and motivates me for the next week.

I am mostly happily maintaining now.

And wondering how the hell I have never been on a barrel train, it sounds fantastic!

RedDoughnut · 28/11/2023 11:36

@OneMoreStepAlongTheRoadIGo

I was 18 stone 7 in the summer. Or maybe 18.8?

I weighed this morning and I'm 15 4.
I think it took a 2 stone loss for me to begin to feel different.
Now I can feel a bit of a change the effort seems worthwhile.
I hope that makes sense?
We have an active diet thread called Lose 2 Stones for Christmas but we plan to carry on in the New Year. Please check it out if you want some company.

Seaitoverthere · 28/11/2023 11:45

A huge well done to you, that is brilliant!

SpottyCrumpet · 28/11/2023 11:49

Fantastic!! Well done

FaiIureToLunch · 28/11/2023 11:50

That’s incredibly OP.
I lost 65lbs since Easter and feel like a different person - you’ve lost so much more than me! How does your head keep up with the changes?
