Any apple shapes have any idea how to dress?

I've gotten very fat over the last few years, and practically all of it has gone round my middle. I have really slim legs, arms and hips, then a huge fat belly so I look like the main character out of despicable me.

I'm trying to lose weight but it's an absolute nightmare trying to find clothes in the meantime that don't make me look ridiculous!

Anyone else? Would love some tips on what to wear because I've just stopped buying clothes and given up on how I look and it's really getting me down. Every time I order any type of pants they're either too small around the waist, or just right around the waste but really baggy all around my legs. Any top that isn't baggy and shapeless just gets stuck on my huge belly, and the baggy shapeless ones make me look so dull and meh.

Please help!

Bumping as I’m similar. I live in jeans and baggy tops or dresses without a waistband. Would love to look more stylish.

Following for ideas as my body shape is exactly the same!!! With you in solidarity OP!

I’m the same. Fairly slim, but big belly, no boobs at all. And quite broad shouldered. The fashion industry isn’t designed for us at all.
in comparison look at all the comments the hour glass autumn thread has…

So glad that I'm not alone! I actually weigh considerably less than a few people I know who look a lot slimmer than me at the same height, because their weight is spread out all over their bodies.

Jackets are my worst fear. Plain, standard jackets with a zip that sit just above your hips. I avoid them like the plague which makes it so difficult to dress appropriately for the weather.

I wear jeans or trousers with stretch in a large size. Got some good ones from m&s. I wear dresses quite a lot. In terms of tops you do have to go baggy. I don't worry about doing up jackets so just buy in a smaller size.

I do worry about health implications about piling weight on my middle.

What are you doing to lose weight? I need to do that...

Stupidbonfire · 31/10/2022 07:42

@ZenNudist i don’t need to lose weight. I’m under 9 stone. I just have a big belly. Natural shape is broad shoulder, very small boobs, v narrow hips and slim arms and legs. I’m really active as well but I muscular up very quickly and look so masculine if I’m not careful. My BMI is low. If my hips were wider then it would stretch my belly out if that makes sense? By waist measurement is much larger than hips. I
just want some clothes that are cut for an apple not an hour glass or pear…

I'm very similar, though with big boobs. So I'm broad, short, with very slim hips. Small waist. My legs and arms were slim but I've gained muscle so they look more in proportion now.

I think you're 100% right, if we had slightly wider hips then our midriff would look better!

I'm just under 9 stone too but have a right lump of a belly. I weight lift and run, and there's absolutely no shifting it. Even when I've been 5kg lighter I still looked pregnant.

I tend to wear maxi skirts, high waisted jeans, or leggings with long shirts paired with a short jacket.

But most of the time I'm in gymwear as it's comfy and holds my stomach in - not very glam!

I had an analysis from styled by susie and it changed the way I dress completely. I'm an apple, my middle is definitely my problem area.

The main things I took from it, which I actually use are high necklines are not my friend, so scoop or V neck tops and dresses, chunky footwear, and prints.

But mostly now I found my personality and express that through my clothes. And I love how I dress now! (Even when I don't follow the rules above.)

grayhairdontcare · 31/10/2022 20:49

I wear dresses and boots or trainers.
More comfortable than jeans.

CampariAndSoda · 31/10/2022 20:52

I like wide legged trousers or jeans as they balance out my shape even though my legs are very slim.

OrangePomander · 31/10/2022 21:04

Fellow apple here. I wear mini or just above-knee dresses with tights and boots, slightly a-line without a waistband. Pinafores work for me.
Bootcut jeans too.

For coats belted works best for me, gives me some shape otherwise they just hang down from broad shoulders and make me look huge.
