Anyone else just decided to make peace with their peri-menopausal weight?

Am 50 and in peri-menopause. 5"7 and 11 stone ( size 12) so not huge but carrying it mostly around my middle. Been trying to lose half a stone for ever. It keeps going off and then coming on again. I am doing IF and watch my calories, reduced carbs to once a day, walk or swim daily for an hour or more, no alcohol or sugar or processed food.

Thinking I should just make peace with it. I could do cardio or Pilates or reduce calories even further, but I don't think it is sustainable because the only exercise I enjoy is walking or swimming. Plus I lead a pretty busy life. Anyone else given up trying to lose weight in menopause?

Not given up, but haven't got the motivation to do much about it. I'm fairly active and don't want to do any more and I've cut back on biscuits and alcohol, but it hasn't made any difference - I guess the one thing it's doing is stopping me gaining more weight.

I made peace with it because illness or injury kept setting me back and I ended up having no time to keep catching up!

Sorry but hell no I am not going down without a fight!

You are active but could I suggest running? I stared running twice a week a few years ago and it's a game changer for fitness and weight maintenance. Also after years of being a gym bunny I've started doing more sports that I enjoy. I now play tennis once a week, go to adult ballet once, Pilates once and run twice.

I'm 5 foot 9 and 9.5 stone or just under depending on the time of the month. I'm 46.

I'm not sure running helps lose weight. I was running every day for years, over 50 miles a week and could still put on weight. I've just had a foot operation and can just about walk a km in one go for the moment. I'm now doing Pilates every morning instead of running and I've lost 5lbs in 3 weeks since the operation as I just don't have an appetite now. I was so worried about putting on weight without being able to run for 3 or 4 months, but it's really what you eat (although being active is very important).

Oh absolutely diet is crucial: it's 80% food and 20% exercise isn't that what they say?

For me, running means I can pretty much eat whatever I want for the 80% Smile

I lost a lot of weight when I hit menopause because it had been creeping up on me and I thought now or never. I now exercise a lot (twice a day) and eat very little though indulge occasionally at weekends or if we go out. I think when you start exercising and eating healthily, you feel so much better. Well being and fitness takes over as priority over diet/being slim I think.
